i am proud to have been part of that, congratulations kojima

I'm not sure if they can backtrack this, but I also wanted to know the original Metal Gear sales from the MSX/NES days as well. I know it says "Solid" however I was curious how the previous games did.

darthv724020d ago

I was surprised that Konami did not do a rebirth edition of the original 1 & 2 like they did with their other high profile games: Contra Rebirth, Gradius Rebirth, Castlevania Rebirth.

The legacy collection will be a welcome addition to my selection of PS3 games.

Sales wise, that's like one CoD....

How tragic.

Donnieboi4020d ago

Kojima pro sure made a lot of money. How about using it to bring back MGO servers (some better ones)????

Yeah, i'm obsessive--but it was my one of favorite games of all time -_-

xabmol4020d ago (Edited 4020d ago )

With a few flaws. Like the sign up BS, the jump glitch, and when they just turned friendly fire off in Survival to stop the invisibility grapple glitch. FF on, is the way MGO is meant to be played!

All the gameplay ideas were amazing though. From how you spawn, to Team Sneak/sneakiness in general, to survival matches at set times throughout the week, to having the option to adjust your camera speed 3 different settings, Normal, 3rd person aim, and 1st person aim.

Also, head-shots actually mean something in this game!

Announce MGO2 already! Please, Kojima?

BlaqMagiq244020d ago

Agreed. I'd rather play MGO than Call of Duty any day.

ftwrthtx4020d ago

That's a lot of sales, but other franchises sell that many with just one release. MGS going multi-platform will definitely boost sales though.

Soldierone4020d ago

what other franchise sells that many with one release?

BiggCMan4020d ago (Edited 4020d ago )

Only one or 2 Mario games have sold that much with one title, otherwise that is a false statement. He may be thinking of Call of Duty, which I don't believe has reached 30 million with one game, but I could be wrong.

Wedge194020d ago

Woo! Good ol' MGS. One of my earliest true "Gamer" games was the original MGS.

"V for victory" Deserves even more

MilkMan4020d ago

Thats good news. but I would have thought that this series was closer to like a billion. With over eight games and all.
I'm really surprised.
Guess its as niche as it gets.

BiggCMan4020d ago (Edited 4020d ago )

A billion copies of Metal Gear games sold?? A billion copies of any series is absurd, I don't even think Mario is close to that. I want what you're smoking NOW!

Also, MGS4 sold over 5 million on it's own, i'd hardly call that niche. It just has a big fan base.

MilkMan4020d ago (Edited 4020d ago )

Wait, wait, wait.

I'm not saying a billion copies sold. Or trying to troll or anything.

To illustrate what I am saying, SONY had stated that the God of War series has made over a billion dollars in sales total, that was before releasing Ascension.

What I was trying to say is, that I assume that MGS has been around longer and (perhaps) more popular than GoW and I was surprised to read that its only sold 33 mil combined.

That seems AWFULLY low.

In fact, I find it hard to believe.

UPDATE: Never mind I read it wrong. I thought it read 33 million in total assets. Its 33 million SOLD. Yeah this brings it well over a billion.
Sorry for the mix up.

6 Fun Games Where You Actually Play As The Bad Guy

While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.

Profchaos4h ago

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Tacoboto3h ago

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).

I never got around to mass effect - I’m skeptical that it would hold up if I were to try it now

Furesis20h ago

I would say it does. The combat is a bit shit for todays standards but everything else is great.

anast19h ago

It's worth a play through today.
