Bethesda is a Powerhouse Publisher, and Why The Evil Within is Vital to Survival Horror Gaming

VG Republic Writes: Bethesda found a way last year to bring us one of the top 10 games in Dishonored yet they never laid a finger on the title other than bringing it forth to the public. The beauty of Bethesda is that they have two of the most powerful gaming franchises outside of Call of Duty, in The Elder Scrolls and Fallout. There isn’t a set of games on the market that offer more longevity and content than these two, for console gamers especially. They don’t really have to do anything outside of focusing on these two blockbusters and they would still be one of the most successful in the business. The decision though to become a publisher of outside studio’s games was rather surprising but at the same time is an easy decision as all they are required to do is to slap their name on it and watch the money roll in. How easy is that? Bethesda though showed even greater decision making when taking on a project like Dishonored as they weren’t interested in pushing shovel-wear and wante...

I feel The Evil Within is also opportunistic for getting better known as a publisher in Japan. Resident Evil is very popular with Japanese gamers and no doubt quite a lot will be getting this spiritual successor.

once again we enter the world of survival horror.

HammadTheBeast4021d ago

This and The Last of Us, seem to be bringing it back.

TLOU in a hybrid sort of way.

Blackdeath_6634021d ago

i hope its something different and not goddamn zombies. maybe its like SAW (the movie) or something. i hope they get the survival aspect of the game right and not make the mistake of making an action horror rather than a proper survival horror

Zezo4021d ago

ehhhhh, let's jump off the bandwagon. Let's stop the hype, stop the panic, stop the Fearmongering, and above all, we haven't seen anything yet and ppl start making this as GOTY contender or a vital core to video gaming universe.

Oh_Yeah4021d ago

Yeah but it's a survival horror game under the watchful eye and resources of Bethesda...you already know this is going to be good.

dedicatedtogamers4021d ago

Survival horror has been alive and well on PC with games like Amnesia, Penumbra, and Slender (not to mention all of the FPSs with horror mixed in like FEAR, Metro, STALKER, etc).

But of course, once Bethesda stumbles drunk into the genre, everyone's like "Hail! The savior of survival-horror!"

Peh.

I really hope The Evil Within succeeds commercially and critically. It'll show that their is still a market for big budget survival horror games. And prove that you don't need to change your game to have more action to make money.

I say go with it because it's been a very disappointing generation for the horror genre. Not many I consider great. I think this is a risk worth taking since the genre is in need for some serious revival. I have my 60 dollar set aside just for the campaign alone.

NastyLeftHook04022d ago

lets support the hell out of this game.

My_Name_BTW_Is_Dante4021d ago

I would support the game but it's being published by Bethesda so I won't bother.

Amen guys, I know I am sure wanting it to succeed and support will show that games like Silent Hill 1 and 2, Resident Evil 1,2, & 4, among some other's that we still care about these games!

This game should have a live action intro like the original resident evil :) would be awesome

Original FEAR is a goddamn masterpiece

ModsDoBetter354d ago

Was playing Alien: Isolation again a few weeks ago, still holds up and the AI is incredible.

F.E.A.R. was another amazing game, shame the series went downhill with 2 and then fell off entirely with F3AR.

Couldn’t get into Fatal Frame, bought the remaster on PS5 and just…couldn’t.

DeathTouch354d ago

Fatal Frame 2 is an underrated masterpiece.
