What If Square Enix Isn't Announcing Final Fantasy Versus XIII At E3?

Square Enix announced that they would be making an announcement about Final Fantasy at E3, but what if they aren't announcing Final Fantasy Versus XIII like so many believe? GP writer Jared discusses a few other games that Square Enix might be alluding to.

I gotta be honest, this game sure looks promising but the latest Final Fantasy titles are a letdown. Should I be excited for this game when FFXIII trailer reveal looked so good and it ended up to be something else entirely diferent from the game itself. Versus might just be a new disapointment again. Also, all the "great" game announced that were continuosly delayed ended up being crap.

BTW, they will announce FFVersus for the GoogleStation in 2076. -_-

I dont know the entire story behind versus but is Sony publishing or is funding Versus.

While nothing official, is has been rumored that Sony started helping with it's development, but it's just a rumor. Nothing has been stated on whether or not it's still an exclusive.

If the game does get transferred over to next generation, the chances of it becoming multi-platform go up some if Sony isn't helping, since the ps4/720 aren't radically different to develop for like the ps3/360 and releasing on both wouldn't be a big problem for SE in terms of cost.

Obviously, till we hear otherwise, however, the game is Sony exclusive, whether it be ps3 or ps4. We'll just have to wait a another couple months. Probably, although they could wait for TGS. Main reason to show it at E3 is if it's coming out for next-gen. It would be a massive game to show off for each consoles official showings.

I'm sure the FFv13 we all saw those years ago is scrapped. SquareEnix will announce FF15 and it will be primarily designed for PS4 (Hence why they scrapped v13), Sony wanted a good launch exclusive for the new console, asked SE, they said OK, scrapped the progress they had done and started from scratch. And there you got the explanation of why this game has been so long in development. Now this is what I think, but I believe it would be kinda plausible.

Maybe the reason we haven't heard any announcement is because FF13 was a dud for Square Enix. I'm sure they have other FF games in the pipeline, but not versus 13.

FF13 was a dud for Square?? That is so wrong. Yea it was disappointing to many people, though I personally loved it. But from a sales standpoint, it was a huge seller, and it also received pretty good reviews. So from a Square point of view, it was a big success, from gamers, that is purely opinion.

Whether or not it was considered a failure by players or SE, there is a good chance the announcements just stopped because the game shifted focus to next generation. I would not be surprised in the least if the game is announced as FFXV for the ps4, and they have been working on it as such for the past couple of years.

Just a wild guess, but I think there's a chance Microsoft have stolen this to be an exclusive for their new console.

Let's face it, there's been no specific news about this game for months.

Also, what's the easiest way for MS to steal some thunder from SONY? That's right, drop massive cash to steal an exclusive that EVERYBODY thought was going to be on a SONY platform.

At the same time, they can grab the attention of Japanese gamers too as, hey, this is a highly anticipated Final Fantasy.

Yeah, considering what Wada said a while back (Yeah, I know... It's Wada, but still...) He mentioned that he'd seen a new build of the game that would blow us away. Guessing that's why they haven't shown anything on it recently, because of a next-gen leap or something. Could be wrong, but it seems that way. Now that the PS4 has been confirmed, they can show it off at E3 is what I'm guessing.

SONY is said to be co-Developing "Final Fantasy Versus XIII" aka FFXV is PS4 Exclusive and will be a major seller. Cause of the massive sales Square-Enix will make more Exclusives for PS4 since making games cost PC development and its easier to develop for.

FFXV will be announced as it was FF Versus XIII, and SCE is publishing the game.

I dont see how people can judge a whole game by a few screen shots and story teases, i see far to many people praising it before they have even played it.

Although i must admit noctus with his army of invisible butter scrappers and the behemoth being taken for a walk around the city looks cool but for me gameplay is a first and must be enjoyable no matter how good a story is, if the gameplays poo then i cant play it and then theres the setting the whole era/world needs to appeal to me and the story must coincide with it. Im sorry but i cant see why people are so psyched for it when hardly nothings been shown yet.

I'm excited because it's a darker Final Fantasy with Kingdom Hearts-style gameplay, switchable party members, open world, with a pilot-able airship, directed by Tetsuya Nomura, and has music by Yoko Shimomura.

That company is going down the toilet and the only way they can save it is if they swallow their pride and remake VII, VIII and IX.
Only through bringing rediscovering what made these three games so popular can Square hope to repeat or even exceed their success in a new title.
This idea they have that they must first beat the success of VII before they remake it is absurd, as they won't beat its success until they've reengaged with the title.
They must study the past if they wish to proceed into the future with strength.

Screw remakes of 7, 8 & 9. Those were great, but I've already played and beat them all. I'd rather square's next three big games not be something I've already played. I've played 8 so many times, I'd rather play whatever new 13 game they have coming out then retread that again

Yes, but they wouldn't look anything like they did back when they came out in the nineties.
Everything would be grander and better, the music would have superior production values and the characters would be deeper.
They might even change small elements or even extend the games to keep them fresh, though this would need to be done very carefully.

I'd love to play a new 13 game if it was good, but given what we've seen in recent years, the chances are it'll be another flop, and I'd rather play a glorious complete remake than the junk they're currently churning out.

Not only that, but if Square Enix are to survive, they're going to need to attract new youngsters to the franchise, and as FFVII-IX attracted many of us as children/teens (for me it was IX), I'm willing to bet remakes of those games would not only provide us with a dose of warm nostalgia, but also enrich the gaming experience of today's children, securing a future for the Final Fantasy series.

Nomura has recently said that he knows the date of the next reveal for Versus, so E3 seems an obvious place since they've had months to get their stuff together since they said they are waiting for the right time to show new info. Then we have Square Enix who said at the PS4 reveal event they will make an announcement at E3.

To all the people saying it won't be good after all this time of being in development I say, Tetsuya Nomura has NEVER released a bad game while he was creative producer/director. All the kingdom hearts games, ff7: crisis core, (while we haven't seen a US release) Type-0, all have received at least an 8 on metacritic. Tetsuya Nomura doesn't make bad games, period. He is seriously SE secret weapon if you ask me.

I can't help but suspect that the current FF team is incapable of making the type of game that old school FF fans are craving. The real talent left years ago, so I highly doubt that Versus will be anything more then another pretty but utterly boring piece of rubbish.

To be honest, I'm not expecting anything major from Square's jpn studios. Not saying they're not good at what they do, but So far they're giving us an HD port and another sequel to a game that DOES NOT NEED A SEQUEL (FF13-3)! They screwed up FF13...why are they releasing sequels to try to "fix" what they messed up on? Why not...Idk...RELEASE FF13VS instead of revisiting FF13 again?

Then there are games like FFZero that should've been released over here as a psp or ps3 game (hd port). I want to love FF again, so they will need to announce and show that their game is GOING TO BE RELEASED SOON. I bought a ps3 for KH3 and FF13vs (MGS4 and the ability to play jpn games being the other system seller game for me)! 2 games that have yet to be made/completed/RELEASED!

Thankfully, JRPGs like Valkyria Chronicles, Ni no Kuni, and Xenoblade filled that Jrpg void pretty well. FF13-2 was good and was better than 13...but it doesn't hold a candle to the ones I named.
