New Toukiden demo video shows off fighting styles

Hot on the heels of Soul Sacrifice, Toukiden is coming and will offer more big-beast battling action soon for Japanese gamers. This new video from Tecmo shows off the four fighting styles, which I'm guessing are melee, sword, bow and chain-weapons, with a smattering of magic.

Indeed! And holy crap does Monster Hunter have some competition in this and Soul Sacrafice?! :D

I've liked Monster Hunter for a long time, but it has been around for ages now and I'm glad to see new spins on successful formulas. We get the benefit of the 'old faithful' MH games, but with a fresher aesthetic and a bit more momentum.

A win for gamers everywhere!

Aside: I can't believe they can get this out of the PSP hardware! :O With the extra horsepower of Vita, the future is looking mighty tastey :)

Soul Sacrifice is one hell of a game. Tried the demo and is fan-freaking-tastic.

Anyways, i thought this was the vita version? No doubt it looks amazing though.

G20WLY4024d ago

@r21^ You're probably right, maybe that's why I was pretty amazed when I watched the vid lol

And yes, I've been playing the demo of SS too and it's quite incredible, I already want a sequel and I haven't even played the full game yet! :D

AhmadCentral4024d ago

I agree, good to see more games like this.

And the fact that it's on PSP/Vita is a plus for both systems and a really good choice by KoeiTecmo as it ensures it'll sell well on the already installed PSP fanbase as well as target the newer PS Vita install base.

It's also important to note that Monster Hunter has no presence on the Vita right now. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is on the 3DS and so will be Monster Hunter 4, so the Vita exclusives aren't exactly competing with MH.

Any news about this coming West? I played the demo from the Japanese store and it's basically a carbon copy of MH (and that's not a bad thing). The combat, the extra things in the mission (like scavenging for stuff), the difficulty, the big monsters, breaking pieces off monsters, monsters "raging", etc are all just like Monster Hunter. Again, that's NOT a bad thing. I love MH. I've played it since MHF2 on PSP.

Do you cut off limbs in Monster Hunter ? I heard this game also has some magic in it.

N4GCB4024d ago

You can cut off tails and break claws and stuff in Monster hunter.

Honestly just by looking at screenshots of Toukiden I thought it'd play pretty damn close to monster hunter.

bicfitness4024d ago

It will come. Temco Koei even did a totally stealth release of Atelier Totori + and we have gotten every Ninja Gaiden Vita port, so this is a shoe in.

I doubt if a PSP version will surface though, I imagine only the Vita one will make it to EU NA.

thatsBangin4024d ago

Looks sweet. I'll have to get me a vita when the ps4 comes out.

Crystallis4024d ago

I might have to buy a vita for this.

It's like Dynasty Warriors mixed with Monster Hunter and maybe God Eater.

Toukiden 3, between the future plans of Omega Force

After the good feelings that came with the remarkable Toukiden 2, the Omega Force team in charge of this series has shown interest in working on a new chapter of the franchise, although they have recalled that at the moment they are developing a project that will be surprising, without offering more details.

After the release of MH World, Omega Force has a lot to catch up. Toukiden 2 is pretty good but I just can't help but find the game just more or less the same. The open world feature needs a few more kinks and additions instead of just "collecting items" and "killing enemies". The combat also needs to be improved upon because while it is indeed fast, it can get pretty repetitive. I also wish that the story and characters will be better, because I found the characters in TK2 to be a bit less varied compared to TK1, and even then a lot of the characters were basically stereotypes.

Good news, the Playstation 3 Toukiden is awesome

MilkMan3162d ago

I loved it for PS4. Id like to see more of it AND expanded.

The monsters/enemies just need to be a bit more active, they seem a bit static a lot of the times. Not saying they should move between zones if they don't already, but at least a bit more mobile, from what I played anyways.
