Which Popular PS3 Franchise Do You NOT Want to see on the PlayStation 4?

Considering that this is the last year the PlayStation 3 will have before the PlayStation 4 bursts onto the scene, many franchises will be making the leap to the next generation. At the same time, however, there’s also many that won’t, so we decided to ask the PSLS staff: “Which Popular PS3 Franchise Do You NOT Want to see on the PlayStation 4?” - PSLS

i say let the dev do what they want and make what they love
i don't want any Popular Franchise this gen to die next gen
because if the dev know that they can bring new things to the table with those games in next gen
then let them try

but i also want to see more new Ips next gen

EDIT:@doctorstrange
well, you are right
but dev like ND they moved from Uncharted Franchise to New IP (the last of us) in the same gen
and they are doing what they wanted not what sony told them to do

i hope more Dev be like this
take more risks and try new things

doctorstrange4018d ago

If only it were down to the dev and not the publisher.

Skips4018d ago

Agreed,

As long as Sony doesn't focus and rely SOLELY on just 3 or 4 franchises alone......

But bring a bucket load of new IP's as well.

I see no problem with Sony bringing all of their popular franchises to the PS4.

zeee4018d ago (Edited 4018d ago )

Oh boy, am I going to get in trouble for saying this but here goes nothing.

First of all, it's not about not seeing it at all. I wouldn't want to deprive myself of a great game just because it had previous titles on PS3. It's more about getting a break, starting to miss a few games. So keeping that in mind here is my list:

Ratchet and Clank
God of War (oh yes I did!)
Little Big Planet
Resistance
Assassins Creed (oh yes I did... again!)
Resident Evil
Dead Space
Call of (freakin') Duty!

There! I wouldn't mind missing these games for a year or two.

I love Uncharted 3 but I wish there was more of a gap between the second and the third one. I was going crazy to play the second one but the third one, I could have waited for it.

I know this is the PS4 article but I'd want similar stuff on my 720.

HALO - Granted, I don't play HALO at all but I wish MS were to put more focus, energy and more importantly money elsewhere and on other original no-FPS titles. Alan Wake anyone?

Less Kinect games
Gears of War
Forza
Fable

And third party games such as Assassins Creed, Res. Evil, COD.

Is it too much asking the devs to bring some fresh content to the table? This 'Rinse and Repeat' is not healthy for the industry.

I am glad Quantic Dreams decided not to go for Heavy Rain 2. Instead, they opted for something new and fresh and I tell ya, BEYOND: TWO SOULS is a day one purchase for me.

Similarly, Naughty Dogs are working on what I can only imagine as "my game of current-gen". Every single thing that I have seen about THE LAST OF US, it is just simply brilliant. I know this is way too early to call it but every time I see anything THE LAST OF US, it just gives me that "Oh-this-is-my-game-of-th is-generation!".

Gaming1014018d ago

LMAO at the typical troll fanboy Zee ^
The guy who hates virtually everything for no other reason than the fact that it's popular. As if new hardware can't inspire new ideas from developers who may have wanted to try things but couldn't due to old hardware limitations.
This is exactly why hipsters don't run companies... or anything else for that matter. Because they make bad decisions, and don't know anything, period.

Resistance still has a ton of potential in my opinion.

Honestly I can't think of anything I wouldn't want on PS4. Just space the games out enough so we don't grow tired of them. I'd love to see Uncharted 4 on PS4 but not for a few years yet, same goes for the next God of war.
Little big planet will have to make a jump to 3D I reckon, after LBP 2 and the Vita version I don't know what other tools they could add, those games are full of content

Imikida4018d ago

I think I remember the devs say that resistance 3 would be their last. So sadly we won't see any more... :(

TheUndertaker854018d ago

The Resistance franchise is owned by Sony, not Insomniac. Insomniac may not be working with Resistance again but other Devs inside Sony may.

jukins4018d ago

totally agree after part 1 it was like eh for part 2 and wtf for 3. let it be over killzone should be the only exclusive fps and im tired of fps!!!!

Ilovetheps54018d ago

I thought Resistance 3 was the best in the series. I really enjoyed Resistance 3. It was tons of fun and I liked the storyline for it.

jukins4018d ago

yea 3 was ok I exaggerated a bit since the story was short and felt segmented but the online was horrid

Ilovetheps54018d ago

Oh, I agree with you on that then. I played the online twice. I was a huge fan of RFoM's online, but I didn't like R3's online.

Root4018d ago (Edited 4018d ago )

Oh I hope Resistance continues

It would be nice if they did a new timeline though and call it "Resistance FALL OF MAN 2". Least then they can fix where they went wrong and give Nathan Hale some better character development.

"Take the controllers away from the CoD fanboys and encourage them to play something else…"

So true...

" I don’t want every game to be compared to Call of Duty or the entirety of the lay person’s knowledge of video games to be Call of Duty. Call of Duty is a plague on games and is holding the industry back from being able to fully blossom. End the corruption and allow for unique, interesting, and diverse content to make it’s way to the PS4. End the generation of the cookie cutter FPS. You cannot claim to be a gamer if your entire video game catalog is Call of Duty."

Couldn't agree more

user76939584018d ago (Edited 4018d ago )

you crazy..?
Resistance has a fun gun play and campaign's, it could be improved into a more complex game.
I will like Insomniac to take notes from KZ3 jet-packs level and use their talent and experience in plataforming to create a new way on playing a fps and bring Resistance into a new level of experience.

I will like devs to transition from a old and new IP giving space to a better continuation of their IP's and not milk it like (kz3,uc3.. great games but just more of the same and even worse somehow, not fresh)

but keep the formula with the original IP and reinvent the formula on your new IP. (don't do what ZIPPER did bringing MAG and ruining SOCOM a game that did not need such a change)

MysticStrummer4017d ago

I wouldn't mind a next gen Resistance title, but it would need to be very different, like a huge open world with many players in it or something like that. I only used that as an example because I'm currently addicted to Defiance, but you get my drift.

I really can't think of a PS franchise I'd rather not see. I don't buy them all, but others buy ones I don't and vice versa so let everyone have their fun.

Unless Lost Planet 3 does shockingly well, I don't think the Lost Planet franchise is going to be on the PS4.

BiggCMan4018d ago

Oh the oxymoron in that statement haha.

Bathyj4018d ago

Hey thats not nice. Dont call him that.

Yodagamer4018d ago

as much as i love lost planet, i'm prepared to say lost planet 3 might be a disappointment just because the developer hasn't made a decent game since 04 :/, maybe it will surprise me, but i'm not getting hyped for it till i have it in my hand.

knifefight4018d ago

Final Fantasy. They need to take a time out and think about what they're doing before jumping head first into these projects. Better to reset yourself rather than announce something that you have in development for 8 freaking years before it can even be fully "revealed." =/

DragonKnight4018d ago

They said "Popular PS3 franchises." FF is no longer a PS exclusive, and it wasn't popular this gen.

Welcome2Die4018d ago

Agreed. This gen ruined many great titles...

knifefight4018d ago

It's not about PS3 exclusive franchises, just franchises that ARE on the PS3. Look at the article itself; it talks about Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, and yes, even Final Fantasy right in the article. So ah...looks like it still qualifies for comment fodder too.

And...it wasn't popular? Versus XIII has been among the most anticipated games this entire gen. People still don't shut up about the FF7 remake and upcoming FFX remaster.
FFXIII, while not having critical acclaim of others in the series, still had outrageous sales. So ah...not sure where you're getting the "not popular" thing either >_>

DragonKnight4017d ago

"Versus XIII has been among the most anticipated games this entire gen."

Anticipation isn't the same as popularity. To be popular generally means to have access to it. The only FF games on the PS3 have been the worst received FF games ever released. FFXIII had great sales because people expected it to be a great game. The first FF of a new gen was always the best possible FF game to come out for that gen but not this time. FFXIII-2 showed what people thought of FFXIII and that they wouldn't be suckered again.

MysticStrummer4017d ago

"It's not about PS3 exclusive franchises, just franchises that ARE on the PS3. Look at the article itself; it talks about Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, and yes, even Final Fantasy right in the article. So ah...looks like it still qualifies for comment fodder too."

They should title the article differently then.

I choose none. Because I don't want to get a ton of disagrees, lol!

I kid, but seriously... It's always nice to have a big selection. Just because I wouldn't want to see one certain franchise on it, doesn't mean other people won't want it there.

That's why I tend to like Sony. They put themselves out there, taking risks on games that most wouldn't give the time of day.

papashango4018d ago ShowReplies(5)
SilentNegotiator4017d ago

You clearly chose the proper path to avoid disagrees. lol

Don't hold back, man. Look at me, I never do. My comments are raw. I don't have 8 bubbles, but I can't think of many times when I've used more than 3 and I always have 4-6 of them to utilize. I backup the things that I say and most people respect me for them.

There's nothing wrong with saying a game needs a break; it doesn't mean that you're chasing games away from people that want them, just expressing an opinion on why it could use some sort of change of pace. I say God of War needs a rest with Ps4; they've bled that storyline dry and haven't done much to improve it.

papashango4017d ago

don't get me wrong. No hard feelings here. Just stating my own opinion.

Snookies124017d ago

Like I said, it's okay man. I was just intending it as a joke and it came out wrong. It happens from time to time. No worries at all.

Foolsjoker4018d ago

Normally, i'd say more games the better, but i really want to see new IPs.

Most Offensive Video Games That Would Never Cut It Today

Times are changing, and these games would have never been made in today's climate.

wealthofgeeks.com
thorstein30d ago (Edited 30d ago )

Every single time someone uses this phrase whether it's music, movies, books, comics, video games, etc it's always the same claim.

The ubiquitous "they" won't allow it to be made. And every decade these claims are made the claimant completely ignores all the "offensive" material that is published when the claim is made.

In ten years, you can write a new article about how you can't make games like Helldivers 2, Resident Evil VIII, Mortal Kombat I, Dragon's Dogma 2, Alan Wake 2 etc etc etc any more.

MrBaskerville29d ago

Yeah, people wouldn't be constantly outraged if there weren't games that people found enraging. The whole SBI discourse shit wouldn't be a thing if all games were inoffensive. A game like Starfield can make a guy froth at his mouth, so there will always be room for a list like this.

0hMyGandhi29d ago

Normally, I'd be inclined to agree with you, but there are massive caveats.
TV shows like Venture Bros, Ren and Stimpy, and Aqua Team wouldn't/couldn't be made today. Hell, Ren and Stimpy was a *children's* show, same thing with Rocko's Modern Life.

It's not for some arbitrary reason, either. It's branding and IP alignment. Companies are far more risk-averse than they were when I was kid in the 90's. Of course, you have companies coming out of the woodwork to hell spur on similar content, but remember: Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon and some incredibly provocative material.

And for movies? it's pretty obvious. American Pie/Wedding Crashers/Eurotrip among many other "raunch coms" have fallen out of style, and are absolutely outside what the modern day film industry is willing to stand by.
Ace Ventura 1 and 2, Dumb and Dumber, Freddy Got Fingered, Rat Race, Harold and Kumar, and Van Wilder follow suit.

Remember: I am not explicitly talking about films put onto streamers. I am talking wide-releases in actual theaters. Same thing goes for games: Carmageddon, Duke Nukem, Manhunt, Six Days In Fallujah (with their original concept), Hatred, and so on and so forth. Of course, I'd be inclined to mention most tactical shooters like Rainbow Six and Joint Ops as well, due to cultural sensitivity regarding *who* you are shooting and why.

And not all of it is bad (obviously). Tastes change, and perspectives change to fit the demographic.
I should add that I'm a lefty, living in L.A. Working in film.

thorstein29d ago

The Boys, Invincible, Jojo Rabbit, Deadpool, Gen V, Last of Us, Banshee... There are plenty of media being made today that people will claim "can't be made today".

Profchaos29d ago

Yeah but if you consider manhunt which was basically a snuff film could you seriously make that game with high than PS2 era graphics.

thorstein28d ago

The Outlast Trials just came out.

But the storyline of Manhunt was that you were executed. But then lived. And if you didn't do as you were told, you'd die. And the people you killed were not innocents.

It was all filmed by a psychopath.

As we speak GTA VI is being finished up for a release. You get to play a Bonnie and Clyde type of protagonist who run up against the law.

Bodycam looks so real.

People are making those games. Articles like this will always exist no matter how incorrect they are, no matter how many times they blame "them" for whatever it is "they" do to prevent "those" games from being made.

Number1TailzFan29d ago

The UK is the biggest junk country pandering to that nonsense as well, with laws against free speech and expression to match. It got so bad even Rowan Atkinson made a video on free speech about it.

Now the UK raises the age rating on harmless films like Mary Poppins, it's just a load of pansy weak ass nonsense.

MrDead29d ago (Edited 29d ago )

The right wing Tories have been in power in the UK for the 14 years you know the ones that are "anti-woke", blame them for your perceptions.

Killer2020UK29d ago (Edited 29d ago )

Are these snowflakes in the room with us now?

This is more faux outrage designed to get hits. The consequences are unfortunately creating hysteria amongst those willing to buy into it and blame "them" or "the left" or "liberals" meanwhile the left are kicking off about genocide, actual real world abhorrent acts. Nobody is campaigning to censor this shit.

Huey_My_D_Long29d ago

Not too mention the fact that some of these game are controversial for you know, underage porn and encouraging rape.

So either the guy just came in to comment snowflakes without reading anything, or he is calling people snowflakes for having a problem with said titles. Crazy how much brain rot someone can have.

banger8830d ago

Dead Island: "The early PC version of the zombie game swapped the playable character Purna’s Gender Wars skill with a prototype name, which shouldn’t be mentioned directly. The skill name made fun of both Purna as a character and feminists."

"Feminist Whore" lmao

gold_drake29d ago

drakengard 1.

its ridiculous tho, especially since they'd still be able to find their place in alot of places in the world. except america of course ha. and maybe Australia.

ppl are so sensitive these days. ha. but it is what it is.

Barlos29d ago (Edited 29d ago )

They're not offensive.

And we need another Fat Princess. Fantastic little game!

Some people just have no sense of humour if this sort of thing offends them. They need to lighten up and stop taking themselves so seriously.

Deeeeznuuuts29d ago

Would love a new fat princess game 🤟

CantThinkOfAUsername29d ago

Games literally about sexual assault, mass genocide, bombing civilians, and school shooting. None of which is satirical.

isarai29d ago

Actually it's about fat princesses

Huey_My_D_Long29d ago (Edited 29d ago )

Its crazy that people are fixated on Fat princess when clearly the list is going over controversies, and not all of them are equal. Like way worse examples but pretend the entire list is like that.

The inFamous games deserve more love from Sony

The inFamous games are an important part of PlayStation history, but the series is in limbo and playing older entries isn't exactly easy.

Would like remasters of 1 and 2. I enjoyed them much more than Second Son.

1 & 2 had more of an emphasis on climbing and the traversal requires a bit more effort in a good way. It was rewarding. Second Son made climbing mostly obsolete so they put little effort into it. The traversal was just great in inFamous 1 & 2. There's a reason Sunset Overdrive copied and improved upon the induction grind mechanic.

Reminds me of how I felt about the decline of parkour and the well designed tombs (basically Prince Of Persia levels) that we saw in the Assassin's Creed games.

The story and atmosphere were also much better in 1 & 2.

Electricity is just a brilliant superpower for an open world city. It perfectly fits just like webslinging does in New York and it has many applications.

Cacabunga59d ago

For sure.. one of my favorite Sony licenses

Shane Kim59d ago

Loved one and two. I actually liked the story as well.

Minute Man 72159d ago

The standalone DLC was a sweet

jznrpg59d ago (Edited 59d ago )

I enjoyed Second Son but it was too short. The first 2 were great though

-Foxtrot59d ago

Second Son was alright but didn't touch the first two games

It felt short and lacking in comparison

Also I really thought Reggie would have made a better protagonist, someone who is anti-conduit as much as him and ends up becoming one would have been interesting to see. I kind of enjoyed his character throughout the game as his development.

badz14958d ago

why is it right now, the thing I want the most from Sony is to release remasters of inFamous (1,2 & SS), KZ (1,2 & 3), Resistance (RFoM, 2 and 3) and Motorstorm (1,2 & 3)??

The_Hooligan58d ago

All great choices. I would like to add Warhawk/Starhawk to that. The multiplayer in Warhawk was amazing. I am surprised Sony hasn't looked into MAG either. That game was ahead of its time.

Maybe Sony should make an internal studio like Bluepoint games and all they do is remake/remaster these amazing games, even going back to PS1,PS2,PSP, Vita portfolio. And because of the recent articles suggesting cost cutting, budget issues and releasing more games on PC, they could do that with these remakes/remasters. Do a day one on PC and PS5. At the end of the day Sony or any other company is going to do what makes them the most money.

Would love a remastered collection on PS5/PC

Wouldn't the onus be on the consumers? If they bought the Infamous games, then we'd have more games from that series.

KwietStorm_BLM59d ago

Infamous has sold millions of units. People have been asking for more. They aren't interested. Just like people have been asking for more Resistance or even a remaster collection, but insomniac isn't revisiting that either. Likely never getting a new sequel since they're a Marvel studio now.

LucasRuinedChildhood59d ago (Edited 59d ago )

No. Infamous was successful. But after a few entries (which are taking longer to make these days) a lot of Sony studios move on to new IPs. That's not a bad thing at all. They don't need to make inFamous games forever, just like we didn't need new Sly Cooper games forever.

But people would like to be able to easily play them on current hardware which is reasonable. Same for Killzone, Resistance, MGS4, etc. Good games shouldn't be trapped on old hardware. It's good that Bluepoint ported Uncharted 1-3.

kpgs59d ago

I'm not saying it wasn't successful. I enjoyed playing all 3 entries and DLC. But like you said, people move on, studios move on. But I don't think I've heard people asking for more Infamous in a long time.

Profchaos59d ago

The franchise was popular we got quite a few games but Suchet punch wanted to beach out I think that's why we got ghost of Tsushima over infamous 4

Tbh ghost is a fantastic game I'm not complaining about that but I'd love to see infamous handled by another team

jznrpg59d ago

Id take GoT2 over Infamous right now but after GoT2 or maybe 3 if they go trilogy I’d like a new Infamous.

badz14958d ago

that's the problem with Sony that puzzles me A LOT! they have studios specifically specialized in remastering and remaking old games for new gen hardware, but we are getting very few of them. SoTC, Uncharted collections, Demon's Souls Remake, TLoU Part 1...and?? that's it? why aren't they giving their old games new lease of life on the PS5 for the new generations of gamers to enjoy? they clearly have the expertise. for god sake, I can even accept lazy porting like Nintendo are doing for theirs if I have to.

FinalFantasyFanatic58d ago

There are a lot of games that consumers have been asking Playstation for, Playstation won't do it, so a lot of these developers have gone and made it themselves by any means possible such as Kickstarter (e.g. Armed Fantasia, Penny Blood, Ratatan, 100 Heroes, ect...). Developers have even asked if Sony could help them out with porting/remasters some of these older games for Playstation, they said no.

Crows9058d ago (Edited 58d ago )

Um...dude like you say that as if nobody bought them....the devs went on to do ghosts after 3 infamous games....3

People ask for new resistance and new infamous at every moment where it makes sense to mention it.

Having a remake of 1 and 2 would be very welcomed I'm sure.

I would love to see a new game but a feel that would get a response similar to Saints Row.

TravsVoid59d ago (Edited 59d ago )

If they keep any of the characters from the previous games I think it would do fine unlike Saints Row which decided to replace fan favorites with less likable replacements. I wouldn't be surprised if that decision caused a majority of their buyers to be new to the series rather than returning players. I will say though, if Infamous Second Son or the first two Infamous games were remade I would be a day one buyer on PC.

100%, locked 60fps and still look great all these years later, same with the expansion, definitely worth a look if people haven't played it yet, not the best games ever made but a good experience, hopefully a new infamous gets released

KwietStorm_BLM96d ago

Never was my favorite infamous, but it was definitely a graphics showcase early on PS4. Still plays well with the unlocked frame rate.

SDuck96d ago

Still remember getting hyped about this game nearing release. Funny because I never even got a PS4. Jumped from PS3 to PC so I never played it ahahaha

OmegaSoldati96d ago

Its a good game. But thats it. Congratulations you made the best choice. I dream to have a great PC one day.

Profchaos96d ago (Edited 96d ago )

Graphically It's a absolutely stunning game that still holds up today.

Didn't have all that much depth to it forcing you to play though twice for a platinum trophy a good and bad run it was a little disappointing how similar those were Delsin would be like I'm not doing that for you in a cutscene but the cutscene would play out and force you to do it anyway just as you would of in a good run

I did like the story however it got a lot of complaints back in the day people hated playing as Delsin instead of cole despite Coles story being wrapped up.

Overall though the map wasn't overly saturated with useless points of interest there was some collectibles and things to find but nothing compared to a Ubisoft game.

I think it was a good game if a little hollow I've played it through around 4 times now since it's so short.

Also it's DLC was great a full story expansion
