FIFA 14 petition calls for female players

Another Change.org petition has surfaced, this time targeting the upcoming FIFA 14, which is yet to be fully revealed. Organisers call for female characters to be playable in-game, something the franchise has overlooked in every release to date.

Women’s soccer is rapidly gaining popularity as a spectator sport around the world, spurred on by a great tournament at the London 2012 Olympics. Accrding to the petition’s materials, 40% of US soccer players are female, and according to the ESA, 47% of gamers are, too.

This isn’t the first time a petition has fought to see FIFA become more inclusive, but last year’s efforts bore no fruit, with series producer David Rutter saying EA Sports has “no plans” to follow through.

I doubt they would spend too much money making new models, animations, announcer additions and game modes so a very small population of people that play fifa and want females in the game wouldn't warrant a reason to make them as well and good as it sounds

No matter how many times I see it the agrees and disagrees on these comments still paint an extremely depressing picture of the mind-set of so many people here. Not only does this particular situation have nothing to do with "special treatment", but acting like all the women who want equal rights are all the same because "some" want special treatment (whatever the perception of that may be) is a joke.

Tbh he's right to an extent but it is a generalization plus completely unrelated to this topic. I think it would be huge for women's football to see EA take a positive stance and add female clubs.

The problem being though is that it would be time consuming plus imho, EA have far more important problems to worry about with the Fifa series. Sadly though, this sort of beautiful PR stunt is the sort of thing I could imagine EA doing to make them look good.

Is the demand their? for EA to delay Fifa titles to go scout, buy licenses, stat teams (all the teams in one league) then apply all the extra stuff...or and made a separate UT i would assume?

And what I said still stands... EA makes more than enough to afford the extra work and treat FIFA fans to extra content.

It would basically double the amount of work EA needs to do on character models and animation, not to mention licensing, different kits and other things for a very niche feature. I cant see it happening.

If they were going to go to that much effort why not just put LFL in Madden?

Well if you could see past what theyre wearing you'd see that they are actual athletes that bust their arse to be there.

Yeah they're dressed up so men will watch them to make LFL a marketable product because they need an audience. Without an audience a spectator sport can not exist. Thats the way of the world.

That doesnt change the fact the women are talented, work hard and get to compete at a high level that they might not otherwise be given the opportunity to do. Do you really think a super model could just walk on the field and do that? They'd leave at the first hit.

I'm not denying any womens soccer teams the chance to make a living doing what they love, why would you deny the Ladies in the LFL the same chance just because theyre pretty and use that to their advantage? Whats wrong with using your gifts, whatever they might be?

I think this article is missing something. There was a report that the producer met with the girl who started the original petition. He said they wanted to do it, but it will take time. They didn't want to just thrown them in the game as some tacked on exhibition mode. He wanted to make sure it made sense when they added them they had enough womens teams and leagues to have the full capacity of features.

I actually think that's a great idea. women's football is a good spectators sport, like it maybe be much slower than the men's game but you actually see technique like in the men's game.

it will eventually happen though. maybe not this year but I see it happening very soon.

I am not a sexist but have you watched female play sports...its on a much lower level than males playing sports.

Sure some sports like tennis and track and filed are acceptable but Soccer, American Football and Basketball are a mans sport and women just look so weak playing them.

yep,.. I like female soccer too,.. you really can appreciate the technique more, than watching male soccer,.. which is more on speed and power..You do get players that are just great though in outwitting defense,.. see the holes,.. are great at passes,..are just smart guys,..etc
