Shovel Knight gets funded--and then some

Yacht Club Games' homage to 8-bit games of childhood yore has been funded. Shovel Knight finished off its Kickstarter campaign with a whopping $311,502, more than 4 times over its original goal of $75,000.

Having reached the benchmark of $300,000, the game will now have a full 4-player multiplayer mode along with all its bosses as playable characters in battle mode.

What?! I mean...it looks okay. I never thought it would get THAT funding...sweet mother of green jesus.

I guess my shock is amplified for my rather disdain for anything 2d/action/platformer. I just can't get into those games AT ALL. Like it doesn't pull me in. Yet everyone else loves the crap out of em'...weird.

I think the fact it was featured on a few high profile Youtube channels probably helped. It really doesn't look that special and I actually do like 2d action platformers.

Only a few are actually entertaining. This one just has a certain something about it that seems appealing.

It's got that Duck Tales influence that people remember.

I pledged. It looks like something I'd enjoy playing, so I threw them $15 for a Wii U copy. I'm glad it got that much funding, though; the stretch goals that were hit went from a nice looking retro platformer to a game chock-full of great extra content.

I hope this game makes it to psn as well, if not I'll definitely grab it on my 3ds.
