5 Things Zelda U Should Take From Ocarina of Time

Zelda Informer: "Zelda U may be a long ways off, but it's almost a certainty that Eiji Aonuma and company are going to take inspiration from the Zelda series at large and then try to expand upon it and/or break some of the common molds. When discussing anything in terms of taking aspects away for a new game in the Zelda series you simply have to start with Ocarina of Time.

Regardless of my own feelings that place the game outside of my top five, it's undeniable the impact the game made not only for the Zelda series, but the gaming industry at large. That is why I firmly believe there are given aspects of Ocarina of Time that Zelda U should absolutely take advantage of."

I kinda wish they'd do another retro Zelda. Something akin to Link to the Past. I love the 3D ones, but I still consider Link to the Past to be the best in the series for me personally. Speaking of which, I wish Square Enix would do the same with Final Fantasy.

Couldn't agree with you more. Link to the Past was my favorite.

While LttP isn't my favorite, it's definitely an awesome game and I would be behind a new Zelda taking the top down approach again. That said, my favorite is Majora's Mask so I'd rather they keep the OoT feel and design but include the mask system and dungeon replay from MM.

Completely agree of FF.

Wish the 3DS would get a new Zelda, and not another remake

Here's a couple things that I want:

I want another twist like Sheik and Zelda being one and the same. I don't know, that just blew my mind when I was younger for some reason.

I want a slightly different formula. I think the time travel in Ocarina of Time made the game just amazing and the puzzles even better when you had to use time. I wish they would have integrated the time travel a little more in Ocarina of Time. But, if they make a new game where it isn't just play a couple of dungeons to get a couple pieces and then fight the final boss, I'd be happy.

And then I just want the basic wonderment that came along with Ocarina of Time. The first time I stepped foot into Hyrule field, I was just amazed. I had never played a game that was so huge. I'm not sure how they could do that with a new game, but I'm sure Miyamoto could figure it out.

I'll be buying "Zelda U" whenever it comes out. Hopefully it will be the best in the series, but currently OoT is my favorite and that is going to be hard to topple.

I would rather they take ques from Majora's Mask. I want another dark, twisted Zelda World to explore. I'm kinda getting tired of all these cutesy colorful worlds (I still enjoy them, I just want something a little more mature). I'm not asking for blood, or anything outside the realm of probability from a Zelda game, but I really want to see that darker atmospheric style of Twilight Princess and Majora's Mask. For some reason, it just makes the games feel more immersive to me.

The music needs to be Ocarina Quality or better in terms of how catchy and listenable it is.

Honestly I really changed my mind on Fi with the remaster because they didn't make her interrupt your gameplay every 5 seconds, that drastically changed my views on her

Inverno72d ago

Technically she's in ToTK but obviously can't take any other form than the sword she was made into. Also the companion feature has been done plenty of times in Zelda, I don't think it'll add anything new. If anything should be brought back it should be the Minish.

Directionless Modern Zelda Should Return to its 3D Roots

Amen! A good, tight, Zelda game with a focus on dungeons and puzzles. Let people have the new style Zelda if you gotta, but let us have the OoT style games too. That's not without precedent either, the handheld 2D Zelda's in the style of A Link to the Past etc have coexisted alongside the 3D Zelda's before

FinalFantasyFanatic102d ago

As much as I like BoTW, TotK, I need my traditional Zelda games as well, I could not endlessly play the open world Zelda games, plus it's harder to keep those fresher than the traditional games.

Eidolon102d ago (Edited 102d ago )

BotW was just as fresh to the franchise as OoT was. TokT was great but the next LoZ would have to move from that formula to be fresh again. There's only so much they can do with the hardware. I think they focused too much on making the world big instead impactful. I felt the world was sort of empty and repetitive in TotK, sure there was a lot to do but no more difference a Ubisoft game..

anast102d ago

I wouldn't worry too much. Nintendo knows what they are doing.

Ristul102d ago

Wind Waker had a perfect balance of open world and a cool, well hand-crafted design. Maybe try to keep the open world but put in effort to make more memorable story driven quests and locations.
