In the future I'd really like to see games take an approach to multiplayer similar to what Dark Souls has where the effects of other players can be seen in the signs they leave behind, but I want it to be taken a step further where others players actions can be seen in your world, but the players themselves can't.

Yeah, I'm a fan of making games social without being multiplayer. Things like seeing your friends' times in Trials Evolution are a great motivator, even if you're still playing by yourself.

Many MMo's are kinda like that!

Guild wars 2 You can play SP and see events and things done by others or you can run with others and do the events they do and just run off by yourself when you want to.

Like Arma 3 I sometimes play alone in Wasteland and just watch others in conflict and kill the winners when they think the battle is over or join the side I want to win the conflict.

Arma 3 is cool cause you roll up on forts and you instantly know whether it's abandoned or active, you see destruction, dead bodies, and such.

I like multiplayer games needs some new idea its always the same deathmatch and catch the flag

I want devs to try new multiplayer modes(not saying that all multiplayer modes are the same just the majority)

well like Deathrun or Jailbreak on Counter Strike: Source

Assassin's Creed's multiplayer introduced a lot of new ideas.

Jek_Porkins4024d ago

Well it's getting tacked onto just about every single game, so there is that.

philpee24024d ago (Edited 4024d ago )

That seems to be changing, as per the point of this post.

Jek_Porkins4024d ago

Well they have added it to games that absolutely don't need it, God Of War, Assassins Creed, Mass Effect, Tomb Raider, Uncharted and even The Last Of Us apparently will have some sort of multiplayer.

I just whooped a black phantom's ass a few minutes ago... I love creative MP, and/or good co-op. I prefer both to the traditional TDM and its ilk. Don't get me wrong... Battlefield and others are fun, but I really prefer something different. Most recently, GoW Ascension has added its take on the traditional, and it's refreshing.

Rush mode on Bad Company 2 cannot be beaten. I'm unable to play any other multiplayer game because it lacks the scope and excitement of Rush.

MW was an excellent videogame. They messed up Spec Ops big time, but aside from this it was a huge step in the right direction initially. Most notably, at launch it seemed to come from a very cohesive creative vision that was felt across gameplay, to story to art style/visual direction. It was also very notably written by prominent ex-Naughty Dog guys that quit almost immediately before release.

That COMPLETELY dissolved through post-launch content and the full pivot to a "cross-mode" narrative that completely obliterated the cohesion in overall story direction. Warzone then "became" the new face of Call of Duty and the franchise completely removed itself from anything remotely creatively "good". It is a pure money machine, so I kinda get why they're doing it....but I personally completely lost interest.

I would love to see Infinity Ward move off CoD and get to make their own product with full control. They clearly have some massive talent in their ranks but it's perverted by Activision's corporate interests.

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave14d ago (Edited 14d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
