High Quality Korean MMOs Stage A Comeback to Western Market

Until 2012, the Korean video game industry generated more export revenue than all other Korean contents industries combined. And online games alone created 64.2% revenue, which made Korea one of the largest producers of MMO games, with more than 37% of the entire world market. The success of Korea’s online game exports is due to not only the favorable governmental policy but also the massive hits of several Korean MMOs in North American and European markets.

"High Quality" and "Korean" don't even belong in the same sentence. I don't care what product market we're talking about. There's a reason even Korean companies outsource.

Scarlett Blade is ripping off the Queen's Blade IP, BLESS is ripping off Final Fantasy XIV assets, Aion and TERA are just terrible. Do I have to go on?

Qrphe4030d ago

You've pretty much summed it up pretty well

Actually I enjoy TERA a lot, love that you can play that mmorpg with a controller. Additionally, Samsung TV's are made in Korea and the best imo, or at least have to be in anyone's top 3 best tv manufacture's. So there goes your whole Korean and low quality theory.

TERA Rising is pretty good and I enjoy playing it.

I kinda stopped playing Vindictus but I may pick it back up once Guild Wars 2 starts to lul.

To call Tera terrible, LOL I don't think you ever played it or Aion. Tera is a great real time action MMO and Aion is a classic although not my cup of tea cause of the combat.

looking forward to Neverwinter as my next MMO!!

I played Korean, Chinese and Japanese MMORPGs.

And I have to say: the pay2win attitude companies have is exasperating.

I urge anyone playing a pay2win game to quit immediately. It's hardly even a game if someone can lay down a couple hundred dollars and curb-stomp f2p players without fail.

Tera online, and the subscription based games are typically not pay2win.

the guy who says korean and quality don't even belong in the same sentence have no clue, they have many products which are among the best if not the best in the world. Koreans view themselves very highly, they strive for excellence.

Most game developers in S. Korea are pretty self-dedicated on making decent MMO´s but lack experience so ive heard

Not trying to insult anyone but... The moment I clicked the link, I thought it was a map North-Korea's missile trajectories.

I'm shocked it's coming to the Xbox consoles, just seems a waste or money and time for little in return.

Vits129d ago

Well, you shouldn't. Black Desert is already available on the Xbox One, and thanks to Microsoft's streamlined game SKU management, it's highly probable that the developers simply have to press a button to make it a native port. The one that will need more time and money is the Playstation version, that will likely need a completely new SKU for the native version to work.

gold_drake129d ago

sounds like advertisement haha.

Vits129d ago

@gold_drake

Only the reality, unfortunately. Sony did an excellent job on the PS5 software, but they didn't put the same effort into the PSN. The way the system handles licenses is terrible.

OneLove128d ago

😂 it's been on the Xbox for a good while now

anast128d ago

I heard this game is a pop-in simulator.
