Zelda As Main Character, Saving Link? Comic Author Makes Pitch For New Legend of Zelda

"Clockwork Empire is set 2,000 years after Twilight Princess, and is not a reboot, but simply another iteration in the Zelda franchise. It just so happens that in this case, Zelda is the protagonist. I’m a very big Zelda fan, and worked hard to draw from key elements in the continuity and mythos.

This concept work is meant to show that Zelda as a game protagonist can be both compelling and true to the franchise, while bringing new and dynamic game elements that go farther than being a simple gender swap." -Aaron Diaz

That sounds kind of awesome.

Xof4028d ago (Edited 4028d ago )

It will never happen, because most gamers are absolutely petrified of female characters, fearing their personality will revolve around tampons or somesuch nonsense.

Yes, even silent protagonists.

I can't count the number of times I've seen people post comments like, "How am I supposed to relate to something with boobs?"

*sigh*

PopRocks3594028d ago

And hello potential! I'm pretty sure I've mentioned my interest in playing as a girl in a Zelda game (technically a female Link) but this is neat too.

KingKelloggTheWH4028d ago

Link doesnt really reincarnate into a girl...he looks the same for a reason..

ChickeyCantor4028d ago (Edited 4028d ago )

He looks the same for familiarity.
Link doesn't need to reincarnate into a girl.

It's the power passed down onto the entity. But yeah it needs some pretty good excuses though.

GC_Tom4028d ago

I like it for the same reason that I love Windwaker. Because it would be a LoZ that would be different for once. And we definitely need more of those, instead of just rehashes of OoT.

kirbyu4028d ago

They've done 2 rehashes of OoT.

I think the only thing that irks me is that they were "inspired" by Anita Sarkeesian, a person who cherry picked various facts to suit her theories.

madjedi4028d ago

Funny i think they should have switched places yrs ago(ie zelda the main character), you have seen alot more strong female characters in gaming lately.

As a good of breath of fresh for the franchise as it could be, i don't know if nintendo would be brave enough to take the chance and risk it not selling.

Although if it's just a zelda game in every way but the hero is a female, it's still a zelda game. The tech demo art style/visuals were very appealing.

Funny i guess all the disagrees are from people who don't want to see zelda in her own game.

listenkids4028d ago

Just out of curiosity, who are these strong female characters? I know you can't mean Lara, Samus or the likes due to "gaming lately". I can't think
of many, if any :\.

contradictory4028d ago

"can't mean due to "gaming lately" "
new tomb raider game literally released last month....

also i still agree with you i can't think of that many in recent history

madjedi4027d ago

elena or chloe, nariko, kai. Look at many of the females in the mgs series(not exactly lately).

To me those are fairly strong female characters, still a minority grant you vs male characters.

That might not meet the standards of someone crusading for the feminist frequency/similar agenda driven sites ect.

But as a simple gamer, it works for me.

I though from all the positive word of mouth tomb raider was getting they tried to make her feel like a real person vs the ps1 barbie doll lara.

I guess it depends on how critically you view the subjective word strong, maybe positive or non cliché helpless females would be a better choice.

I thought it was nice that gears finally had female gears characters.

I would say lately would cover 2 or 3 yrs, a specific time frame would have better, so that was my fault.

Honestly I really changed my mind on Fi with the remaster because they didn't make her interrupt your gameplay every 5 seconds, that drastically changed my views on her

Inverno75d ago

Technically she's in ToTK but obviously can't take any other form than the sword she was made into. Also the companion feature has been done plenty of times in Zelda, I don't think it'll add anything new. If anything should be brought back it should be the Minish.

Directionless Modern Zelda Should Return to its 3D Roots

Matt from We Game Daily writes "The Legend of Zelda series has gone in a different direction. One which, try as I have, I just can’t get on board with. Here is why I think Zelda should return to its 3D roots."

Amen! A good, tight, Zelda game with a focus on dungeons and puzzles. Let people have the new style Zelda if you gotta, but let us have the OoT style games too. That's not without precedent either, the handheld 2D Zelda's in the style of A Link to the Past etc have coexisted alongside the 3D Zelda's before

FinalFantasyFanatic106d ago

As much as I like BoTW, TotK, I need my traditional Zelda games as well, I could not endlessly play the open world Zelda games, plus it's harder to keep those fresher than the traditional games.

Eidolon106d ago (Edited 106d ago )

BotW was just as fresh to the franchise as OoT was. TokT was great but the next LoZ would have to move from that formula to be fresh again. There's only so much they can do with the hardware. I think they focused too much on making the world big instead impactful. I felt the world was sort of empty and repetitive in TotK, sure there was a lot to do but no more difference a Ubisoft game..

anast106d ago

I wouldn't worry too much. Nintendo knows what they are doing.

Ristul106d ago

Wind Waker had a perfect balance of open world and a cool, well hand-crafted design. Maybe try to keep the open world but put in effort to make more memorable story driven quests and locations.

Zelda Fan Brings Godzilla to Life in Tears of the Kingdom

A fan of The Legend of Zelda has recreated the iconic Japanese monster Godzilla in Tears of the Kingdom using the game's Zonai devices.

Knightofelemia144d ago

I like it would also be cool if some created Dragon Caesar in the game I would love to watch the two going at it.
