Will Share Button Change Online Gaming for PlayStation?

The Share and Options button replace the Select and Start button. Meaning you could have done this with any other controller that has a Select and Start button and your comment is pointless.

No, it won't. The share button is what you call a gimmick. Just look at the HTC Facebook phone that came out awhile back. That had a Facebook button that was used to share stuff faster. Don't remember that being revolutionary.

Yeah i dont think you really are a core gamer who is part of gaming culture or communities.

Here is why Youtube lets plays and live streaming gaming is huge and a multimillion dollar generating business. The issue though has always been you need a pc, capture device, camera, editing software and most importantly time to do everything.

With the PS4 all this changes with a press of a button...and its that simple. Being able to share content and connect with other gamers will be more accessable than ever before.

You calling it a gimmick shows your own ignorance on the subject matter.

So you're saying the only core gamers are the fraction of a percent who post videos on youtube? The people who do that don't do it because they're core gamers, they do it for money. I'm not saying it's not cool, it's just not going to change online gaming significantly. This is the same reason the kinect is a gimmick. It has cool uses (UI control, video chat) but I never use it for playing games.

It's innovation through convenience, something that has made Apple very rich indeed. I can see it becoming a staple for all consoles from here on out.

My thoughts exactly, it's so simple, yet so revolutionary. I've wanted this since I saw that the PS3 version of Just Cause 2 had an auto-record setting for videos. It's like that, but for every game... That makes me extremely happy. :]

Are you not familiar with game broadcasting? It's massively popular. Check out TwitchTV, they get over 17 million unique vistors a month. Sony have definitely made the right move. It's all about social networking and sharing these days, so making the PS4 a very socially connected machine is the right way to go. Nintendo have done it with the MiiVerse and I'm certain Microsoft will too.

It's nice to have a share button for all games, but this is far from "revolutionary".

It just takes something already done, and making it a bit better and more accessible.

I will most likely never use it as it is a total gimmick to me and I don't use facebook so it really doesn't do anything for me. If I could send that 15 seconds of gameplay to a buddies PS4 like a video msg, then I could see myself using this.

Fro m my understanding it's ease of use and implementation will be the plus points and a first on consoles from . Many games have the feature but now it will be across the board and quick to use.

Stupid headline.

It's a 2 minute video and the share button is talked about for 30 seconds. And they just mention what it does. Nothing about it's potential or how it will change PS3's online gaming.

But it's a dumb headline anyway. It's a brand new feature to a Playstation console that allows people to stream, record and take photos of their gaming sessions. It's obviously going to change Playstation's online gaming.

Nothing? So, along with allowing a friend to take over, this couldn't be used to say, show a friend how to get to a certain item or part of a map? It couldn't be used to report people, in-action, who take advantage of glitches and bugs in online games? Hell, could it not be used to REPORT said glitches and bugs in the first place, allowing for better feedback and thus improved games?

I guess none of that would add to the gaming experience though...

Anyway, I only WISH the PS3 had this feature. Some of the things that happened in BC2, Killzone 2, and Uncharted really deserved to be shared. Punching rockets, amazing escapes, and downright domination. Would be great to save such things for posterity.

Game changing? Don't think so (OnLive has something very similar that's been available for over 2 years now) but a cool feature none the less. Reminds me of the record button on the OnLive controller (automatically shares your recorded clips with your OnLive friends and also uploads on Facebook if you want). It's cool to see PS4 borrow this feature. I use it quite frequently on OnLive (my brag clip space is actually full) and will probably do the same on the PS4.

Sony fans got butthurt because you pointed out the feature they're hyping as new and innovative has been in use for years. It is ripped right from another company much like trophies, ps move, rumble and every other innovative Sony idea.

It will be useful and I'm sure il find some cool things to do with the feature but the main attraction is the games not the ability to tweet from in game and link my ps account with Facebook. Make killer games and were in business baby!

I wouldn't say "no one" uses OnLive. True they have a small user-base but still a user-base none the less. The OnLive service can also be accessed on almost any device. Computers, tablets, and phones using a multitude of operating systems can all download the OnLive application for free and instantly watch other people play. I don't see how this is much different from the approach Sony is taking. You either have to be on PSN or a person has to set up a live stream on Twitch.tv. Also the recorded clips can be uploaded outside of the OnLive service onto Facebook.

I could see people becoming "celebrities" if they share enough good videos to build a reputation, not unlike YouTube celebrities with their PC live streaming and walkthroughs. Those guys literally get paid because of their subscriber base. Obviously we're not taking monetary value here, but I could see this doing great things for expanding the PSN community.

I guess it could be used as a stepping stone toward a potentially successful YouTube career; however, at that point it's probably best to invest in a quality capturing device like a Hauppauge or Elgato.

But if Sony is smart they'll have a watermark on every uploaded video.
Which could get them a lot of potential buyers (free publicity so to speak).

It's free advertising for the PlayStation brand and its games. It will boost PS4's presence in social media and also benefit the games that are being promoted through streaming.

Your Facebook/Twitter friends see an interesting bit of gameplay from a random game you're playing? They might be interested and otherwise might not have seen it. They might choose to buy it because they want to play it with you. They might choose to buy it cause they think it looks interesting. They might not choose to buy it, but this option maximizes market potential and opportunity to faster build a community for a game.

It should push gaming as entertainment further into the limelight and afford games the spotlight, if only for as long as that Tweet or Video or Post remains popular on its respective social media branch.

It gives the freedom that the gamer might have wanted to do previously but needed extra hardware to do so. i.e. recording gameplay and posting it to YouTube, FB etc.

It won't change gaming much, but it will make things more open, accessible and connected, for sure. It will change the community.

I dont think people grasp how big of a deal this feature is.

Easy things all done at once.
1. Record video and commentary...no syncing clips or video editing
2. Upload to youtube facebook and ustream...yeah nothing else does all at the same time
3. Live streaming with more than just friends with no pc

All of these are a pain in the ass to do right now just by themselves and time consuming...so yeah its revolutionary and anyone who says its not is a salty hating anti PS4 troll...

There will be so many people doing let's plays on YT and I bet 90% of them will be terrible. You will get some pretty decent ones, maybe a really good one that a load of people will follow.

It won't change online gaming, it will just get more people to make videos with terrible commentary, just trying to a quick buck or quid.
