Five games that could put the Wii U back on the map

VGS: 'The Wii U has had a pretty rough start. Right now it's facing one of the worst droughts in the history of Nintendo's consoles, and sales aren't up to expectations. Luckily for Wii U owners there is a lot on the horizon. Here are five (announced and unannounced) titles that could give the system a much needed injection of fun.'

Sensible list, but it's lacking Mario Kart. That one would probably sell more Wii U's than any other game in the list, if sales figures for past Mario Kart games are any indication.

Also, to date, Mario Kart has been Nintendo's staple franchise for online play. Mario Kart DS, Mario Kart Wii and Mario Kart 7 all offer some of the best online experiences in their respective platforms, so I'm curious what Nintendo would do with the Wii U version, now that it has a proper online service.

It's worth noting that Mario Kart 7 contributed to the 3DS' comeback at the end of its first year. It managed to sell a million very quickly and helped boost the 3DS' sales. We could see history repeat itself with the new Wii U title.

Personally I just want them to try and balance the gameplay in such a way where it's faster, more competitive and has more item balance (going from no blue shells in one game to four in another makes no sense to me). The online in 7 was perfect, so hopefully they can adopt a similar, if not identical system.

Furthermore, an invite system and a bigger character roster is in order. But that's just me.

I'd also mention that the 3DS had a nice price drop along with Mario Kart for massive sales.

Good point, Mario Kart Wii sold about 32 million copies.

Did they really put Donkey Kong on that list and not Mario Kart ??? Mario Kart has way more clout than DK !!

I agree. Modern Mario Kart (similar to 3ds one) would boost sales 500%

An HD Mario Party 10 might be helpful.

There will definitely be a Mario Party HD sometime soon. How else will they put the wii motes and wii u remote to use, if not for the mini games?

I'm sooo ready for Mario Kart, Smash Bros, and the 3d Mario. Also, I hope that they put some real effort into the next Mario Party, because I feel it is the only real weak link in Nintendo's IPs. I haven't felt the need to even play one since 6.

I want a new Zelda as epic as possible with much more epic music as much, if not better music than Mario Galaxy had. They need to take the risk to reinvent the music just as Mario.

Also, a new Mario reinvented. They did it with Mario Galaxy and hopefully they can find a way to make it better.

A new Starfox, much like N64 but better

Looking Ahead: The Lingering Questions About the Next Mario Kart

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "10 years. It’s been almost 10 years since the last mainline release in the Mario Kart series. Mario Kart 8 came out for the Wii U in 2014 and became the best-selling game for the system by a sizeable margin, and later pulled the same magic trick on the Nintendo Switch under the stage name Deluxe. All in all, it's sold nearly 70 million copies over the last decade and is still selling like hot cakes to this day, so it’s no wonder Nintendo has been in no rush to replace it. However, with rumors of a new system being just around the corner, and reports a few years back that a new Mario Kart is indeed under way, it seems the era of 8 might very well be drawing to a close. It’s an exciting prospect to be sure, but after two Nintendo systems with Mario Kart 8 at their heart, a lot of questions remain about how Nintendo will choose to follow it up."

I hope they just keep building on Mario Kart 8; Add a track-creation tool, and probably open it up to more Nintendo IPs with new tracks and characters, so Metroid, Punch Out, Starfox, Animal Crossing, etc etc.

there wont be a new one until the switch 2 comes out.

nintendo needs their bangers early on
