Dota 2, League of Legends Most Played PC Games in the West

World of Warcraft is no longer king.
Dota 2 is now the most-played PC game in the West according to research firm DFC Intelligence. According to DFC’s PC Game Meter service, Dota 2 passed League of Legends in the first quarter of 2013 as the most played “core” title (DFC does not track casual or browser-based games).

People play League of Legends as if it were there life. So I don't know why you think it's casual. The fan base is just as dedicated as any other game out there.

And it's not browser based, so your comment doesn't make much sense.

I was making a joke. It's very much a casual, pick-up-and-play game until you get in a round with someone who's passionate (like you've detailed), and it's about as hardcore as you can get.

You'd think it was a Sony-published game, the way people defend it around here.

I was forced into playing it by my friends and really didn't like it at first. I'm more of a starcraft player, and dota 2 feels mechanicaly very week in comparison. After about 50 hours of gameplay. 80 hours of gameplay later, I really like it. The fun isn't about the mechanics, the metagame is really strong and I have never played a game with such emphasis on teamplay; every choice you make is a choice for your team.

biggest problem with the game is that losing really isn't any fun at all.

My friends started last semester and have already racked up 900+ hours each, it really is addictive. That community though, all trolls aboard! lol

That is actually surprising, to me atleast. I have the game in my steam catalog but haven't played it yet. But I could say that about tons of games in my catalog.

dota is a very addicting game. I have been playing it for the past 7 years and I still love it. only problem is the very steep learning curve and the not so friendly community.
