Next-gen is on the horizon and questions are rising on how the PC can compete effectively with the new consoles.

Me too.

My PC offers me bleeding edge graphics and mouse and keyboard input for when those things are preferred.

My consoles offer me comfort, convenience and reliability as well as a large screen and are home to a lot of great exclusives.

I agree with most of what you said, minus the reliability part. I own a PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. The PC is the only one I haven't had any kind of hardware failure with.

My original launch 360 died and then they fixed it and then it died again and they fixed it a second time. Luckily it has worked for about 5+ years now.

My original fat PS3 has a bad GPU and it won't play most PS3 games without massive amounts of artifacts. I think that even if I send it in to Sony to get it fixed that they won't fix it and will only send me one of those PS3 slim units that don't have BC.

These experience have made me reluctant to buy the PS4 or next Xbox anywhere close to launch. I think I will probably wait a few months or years to make sure the hardware is more reliable.

Even if my PC does have a part that goes bad, at least it is easy to replace just that part.

I have never had a single electrical device fail. My Amiga 1200, Atari Lynx, PS 1,2,3 Fat, Xbox never had a PC die or laptop (just replaced when they got old) all my mp3 and mp4 players, VCR players, DVD players Amplifiers, TV's and mobile phones all worked fine. The only problem I've ever had was my washer dryer would no longer dry.

I think it varies - I've had more failures from our PCs ad laptops than consoles in my experience (and have had failures from both). Not getting a 360 at launch probably helped though ;).

He may have been commenting on reliability of performance though - PC games have a much larger range of potential problems when running (just go to any 'tech issues' forum of a PC game) than console games, because of the multiple hardware and OS (eg; Win XP/Vista/7/8) iterations. For example, I'm enjoying the Witcher at the moment, but it's CTD'd more times in 20 hours than Skyrim on the PS3 did (freeze in this case, consoles do that more than CTD) in 140. When you get a game on console, the vast majority of the time it runs well first time. On PC, there's a far greater chance of needing to play with settings or download some VB.Net add-on (which you'll have to trawl through forums to track down) before things'll work (that example is from Mass Effect ;)).

Both systems are great - I game on PC and PS3, with a side helping of 360 - but I'd easily rate the PC as the least reliable, as long as you've got a recent model of 360 ;).

I have all the consoles and a PC, but I don't game on PC because its never appealed to me, and I doubt my PC could run Runescape, let alone some high end graphical powerhouse game....lol

I should clarify that I have no desire to site at a desk and play PC games, I grew up on consoles and prefer console gaming, the console community and things like that. More power to the PC community, but it's not for me.

It's actually a fair bit of work, and without the right research you can get chips that aren't compatible with your motherboard. Just because you've spent your time building up that knowledge doesn't mean some gamers might prefer to spend that PC-building time gaming instead ;).

I also have both. Gaming pc with a gtx 680 and 2560x1600 screen, and a PS3/Wii U.

Though if the game's a multiplat, I'll always get it on pc.

Most console games overhyped PR department currupted media promoted rubbish more interested in presentation and accesbililibiltyz than gameplay. Pc wins suckers, get over it.

The more options the better. I just know people that would rather invest the few hundreds they would invest on a console for more elite pc hardware. I know I would but consoles definitely have their market. There is no denying that.
