It's one of the few things Greg Zeschuk would like to have done differently with BioWare

What is stopping you from doing it now, get a meeting w/ those at MS & Peter Moore(EA)to bring JE, JE2 to next Xbox as an exclusives. I would buy them day one.

He doesn't work there anymore.

RuleofOne343 4032d ago

Minor detail, if allowed to make this game his way he would come back while a deal is worked out for his return.

as far as the business side of things, they're about as adept as a couple of turnips.

It doesn't surprise me that they made a mistake with the launch window of Jade Empire, because they made dumb mistakes all through out....basically.

I mean, you had the PS2 which was the uber dominate platform for the 6th generation, and yet, they made NO games for it. Why? They would have sold double the units of Star Wars: KOTOR, minimum.

-Next, they gave/sold the IP of their game (Mass Effect) to Microsoft. Dumb move, especially for a high level, critically acclaimed developer like them. (Obviously EA bought it back later btw)

-They Sold shares of their business to an investment firm, and when the economy went south, EA had to come in and save them.

-Bioware pushed too hard with Star Wars: TOR, tried to copy WoW, and now....well, I guess EA gets to eat that bill.

Bioware just made mistake after mistake after mistake. Maybe next time around, if there is a next time, Greg Zeschuk and his buddy should just stay designing games and try to stay out of the "business" side of things.

"as far as the business side of things, they're about as adept as a couple of turnips."

I have to disagree with this. These guys build a company out of nothing with no *real* prior experience in the field prior. If you don't know business, you aren't going to get anywhere.

Sitting on the sidelines in your comfy armchair being critical of others is easy, but being there and making the choices under duress is all different.

"I mean, you had the PS2 which was the uber dominate platform for the 6th generation, and yet, they made NO games for it. Why? They would have sold double the units of Star Wars: KOTOR, minimum."

Maybe, maybe not. However, It would have likely cost Bioware far more to create the game as well. Remember, this was PC developers and back then console development was pretty foreign literally with Japanese documentation and everything. The original Xbox was very PC centric not just the architecture, but even down to the platform, tools and community.

There were also a lot more competition on the PS2 platform. It might not have gotten the proper attention, but as an Xbox exclusive it will get far more coverage.

"-Next, they gave/sold the IP of their game (Mass Effect) to Microsoft. Dumb move, especially for a high level, critically acclaimed developer like them. (Obviously EA bought it back later btw)"

Oddly, that turned out to be the right choice. The PS3 came out with a very very slow start and the Xbox 360 had plenty of momentum and platform adoption. In fact, you are contradicting yourself because this is almost the exact opposite situation of the original Xbox and PS3. Except the PS3 didn't have the benefit of having an easy to program platform and don't care about helping developers at the time.

Most business is done over relationships, not just cold hard profits. If you do that, there is little hope for future business or co-operation.

"-They Sold shares of their business to an investment firm, and when the economy went south, EA had to come in and save them."

That is just them cashing out a little to protect their investment. You don't want your company go bankrupt, especially in a hit driven business.

That is a smart move if anything.

"-Bioware pushed too hard with Star Wars: TOR, tried to copy WoW, and now....well, I guess EA gets to eat that bill."

That might very well be EA's doing, but what other games has really been successful in that space other than WoW. There really aren't any, so why fault Bioware for pushing it strong and failing. Would you rather have them "barely" push it and fail?

"Bioware just made mistake after mistake after mistake"

It's easy to point out mistakes, but have you taken a look at what they do right? Especially prior to EA?

Ideally I think they would stay independent, but as you have seen even John Carmack sells his company for security. These aren't small companies either....

There are some mistakes with your comment. They didn't give/buy back the Mass Effect series to Microsoft. Microsoft published the first game on the Xbox 360. EA wanted the sequels to go multiplatform and distributed 2 and 3 themselves.

KOTOR was on the Xbox because the system has similar architecture to a PC, which was Bioware's background. The ps2 was not a strong enough machine and difficult to develop for, so Bioware skipped Sony's system. Just like Mass Effect 1, Jade Empire was published by Microsoft.

It was not Bioware that wanted to make a MMO. It was EA. EA has been pulling it's hair out trying to take market share away from Activision. They had a two prong strategy: SW:TOR would compete against WoW and Battlefield would compete against CoD.

Bioware has a history of great games. I believe the doctors got burned out by all the mandates EA put on them. Look at what happened with the Dragon Age series.

If the doctors ever get tired of brewing beer and get the itch to develop new games, I can't wait to see what they have in store.

BlackIceJoe4033d ago

I would enjoy a sequel to Jade Empire. So I hope it happens some day.

Max-Zorin4033d ago

Me too. I loved the first one.

shutUpAndTakeMyMoney4033d ago

BioWare Could be Working on More than Just Dragon Age Dreadwolf and Mass Effect 4

Earlier this year, BioWare was hit with layoffs as part of a downsizing of parent company Electronic Arts, but fans have been reassured that the next Mass Effect game hasn’t been impacted. Likewise, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf’s development is still churning along, with BioWare putting it at the forefront of its focus and rumors suggesting that it could launch sometime later this year. Fans might be getting another look at the long-in-development Dragon Age: Dreadwolf at the Summer Game Fest in June.

If the recently posted job offering for a temporary development manager is any indication, BioWare could have yet another surprise up its sleeve for when Mass Effect 4 and Dragon Age: Dreadwolf are nearing completion. This mystery BioWare video game could truly be anything, from another spin-off of its two major properties to something entirely new. All there is to go on at the moment is a vague mention in the job posting, and it might still be some time before BioWare is ready to confirm any new games in its pipeline.

So a studio that spent years on anthem then this dragon age thing is now also working on another ip along with mass effect,

You think they would be worried that there brand has been on 3 major screw ups

Dragon age 3 launched broken with the frostbite engine yes its a good game but you can see in the late game how rough it was

anthem......

Mass effect 4 well that dev team was fired so yeah.....

They should make sure this new dragon age is a goat instead of putting more work on the table

bababooiy22d ago

Bioware today is like 150 poeple i dont see how they are seemingly working on all these projects at the same time.

Michiel198922d ago

Inquisition wasn't broken, it just had some flaws and on the contrary it also had some strengths. If you call inquisition a major screw up then idk what to say.

That said with what happened to the study since then and now, I'm not really confident that their next game will be any good.

just_looken22d ago

If you played it fully to get plat like me back in its novemeber launch window you had that castle with empty area's endgame missions not there or working and a mp that was made around loot box grind like the mass effect mp.

Its hard to explain to those that played it years later after they tossed out the dlc/patch's

Michiel198922d ago

entitled much? I played it at launch too. Why you even platted it if it was a "major screw up"?
It was good enough for you to sink 100 hours in but also a complete fuckup at the same time, make up your mind.
So either you like shitty games or you're just talking out of your ass.

RaidenBlack22d ago

Well just wanna say, Archetype Entertainment is the new BioWare, composed of mainly ex-BioWare vets.
And they're developing Exodus (starring Matthew McConaughey), a new sci-fi RPG (spiritual successor to Mass Effect, dare I say?)

CantThinkOfAUsername22d ago

I hope it's a single player game with Anthem's gameplay mechanics.

Becuzisaid22d ago

They're owned by EA. What makes you think that they wouldn't publish for PS5? Shoot, if your fridge could connect to your bank account EA would try to release it for that if they could!

Double_O_Revan23d ago

How about they focus on those games and not over extend themselves? We don't need another Anthem.

Becuzisaid22d ago

Bioware died after Inquisition (some would even argue after ME3). They are no longer the same company.

New Mass Effect Game Teased for N7 Day, and It Shows a Mysterious Individual

Today is known as Mass Effect N7 Day, and BioWare has released what looks to be teasers for the new Mass Effect game.

Snookies12169d ago (Edited 169d ago )

We really need another solid Mass Effect entry. It's a real shame that such a legendary franchise was left off with such a blemish to its overall astounding track record. Andromeda was just not it, don't know what they were thinking there.

-Foxtrot169d ago

Surprised it got a subtitle

I thought after Andromeda they’d have kept to the numbers so people wouldn’t think “oh another spin off”

Unless Shepard returns

Obscure_Observer168d ago

"Unless Shepard returns"

After ME3, Shepard should f* off

Stanjara168d ago

Put a chick in it and make her gay.

Ethereal168d ago

Yes! One of my all time favorite trilogies. Hopefully they do ME justice. Andromeda was passable and had bones of a good game but just lacked the depth and intrigue that the originals had.
