Can BioShock: Infinite Hold Onto Game of the Year Title?

"As of right now we are early into April, which means that we’ve only passed the quarter mark for the year-to-date and without a doubt the Game of the Year so far is BioShock: Infinite." Explosion.com

If Last of Us doesn't take it, I think Watch Dogs or another Next Gen could by that new flair. I do think Bioshock sealed itself some GOTY awards regardless if it wins the top or not

joab7774028d ago

It will depend on other games obviously but mostly on our jaded memories in comparison. Will the story grow to epic proportions or will a game with amazing combat and AI make us remember the flaws (though I am not one who finds the combat dull...vigors etc make it better than most if not all other fps games).

It will get many rewarfs and some goty awards from many. But it will come down to GTA V, the Last of US or Bioshock Infinite. The Last of US could win because of its originality
If Watch Dogs is a better GTA then it will win hands down but that's a big if.

I also think Bioshock has a unique ooportunity with DLC to help its case. Spolier!!! What if we go back to Rapture or another amazing environment. What if they create some crazy horde style dlc that would highlight the combat and all the unique ways u can play.

It will be very hard for any game ti beat Bioshock to me simply because of the incredible world and story that is created.

since "gamers" cant seem to "understand" the BioShock Infinite ending - it probably won't hold many GoTY titles just because that person was...not, up to speed ;)

This is going to be a great year for gaming, and the fact that one of the best rated games of all time is probably going to be topped as GOTY is a good sign, I think.

It means things are only going to get better from here.

Double_Oh_Snap4028d ago

GOTY contenders imo, having only played one of these. But also having the utmost trust in the other two to be masterpieces.

Bioshock: Infinite

The Last of Us (Naughty Gods)

GTA V (Never doubt R* North)

solidt124028d ago

I agree. There is no way these three games won't be in the top five. There is still a possibility of a next gen game blowing everybody away and being added to this list though.

Chuk54028d ago

IT's a tough year.

Considering the rest of the games live up to their hype.

Infinite, Last of Us, GTAIV, Watchdogs are certain nominess.

ThichQuangDuck4027d ago

They are all nominees but Story wise I think bioshock's only possible competition for me is Beyond 2 Souls. The others will present stories but I question whether they will be as immersive as bioshock or beyond 2 souls. GTA will be a huge return especially after my personal biggest disappointment this gen GTA IV

imsocool12344028d ago

So many great games to name. It's hard to decide. My pick at least is The Last of Us.

"And lastly, famous Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling helped to create the action-RPG’s setting. What’s really fascinating, though, is that the game was partially financed by taxpayers from Rhode Island (which allegedly lost the state millions of dollars). Yikes!"

1. Now infamous Schilling
2. No allegedly, it did. And they couldn't pay it back.
3. What really lost the money wasn't the SP release but the MMO they were working on. This was supposed to be an introduction into the MMO world.

I hate counting limited editions for these lists. I mean, they're made to be rare and expensive. It's far more interesting to hear about the NCAAs (even if most people know that one already) and the El Chavos than some massive hit that came with a $200 statue at retail.

gamerz267d ago

Me too. Here's the best I can do:

El Chavo Kart $90.14
NCAA Football 14 $87.72
Spiderman: Edge of Time $75.94
Spiderman Web of Shadows $75.09
Spiderman: Shattered Dimensions $67.76

Christopher267d ago

Wow, El Chavo Kart is not at all what I expected by the name. 100% looks like a Sackboy Kart game.

It's so odd that so many Spider-Man games are seemingly given lower print runs, even if they're not the best games.

Most Xbox games don’t hold as much value compared to other systems. Kameo, Blue Dragon, Last Remnant , and a handful or 2 of other games that I kept.

Fallout 3 and Bioshock Infinite are the rarest games of all time.

8 Best Games Set In A Multiverse

One of the biggest TV and movie tropes in the last decade has been the multiverse, the idea of exploring multiple dimensions to uncover alternate versions of existing ideas. From both a business and creative perspective, it makes sense why established franchises are shaking things up in this way.

However, there aren't many video games latching on to this trend, as rendering multiple worlds in real-time is a difficult feat and the medium is relatively young in comparison to its contemporaries, making crossover opportunities more difficult. Still, there are a few great titles that manage enough to overcome these challenges, and here are some of the best examples.

While I love someone mentioning Planescape, not really multiverse. Planes and dimensions, yes. But, they are typically their own locations and are very rarely tied to another 'verse' let alone another plane. The only things that are directly tied are the ethereal and material planes. Otherwise, they are dimensions created of their own design and goals by the creator/owner and not comprised of 'their own version of another dimension'.
