“Big Gaming Announcement” Teased for Tomorrow, but What Might it be?

Out of nowhere, and with no provocation, Best Buy Canada tweeted out today that there’s a “big gaming announcement tomorrow,” then asked if any of their Gamers Club members had any idea what it could be. -PSLS

FIFA 14 looks like a likely candidate.

doctorstrange4034d ago

It's a big game, but not exactly a surprise.

Foolsjoker4034d ago

Burnout on PS4. Make it so.

TrendyGamers4034d ago

@Foolsjoker

That would be awesome.

Root4034d ago (Edited 4034d ago )

Apart from sports fans who really gives a crap about Fifa...it's one of those games along side COD, PES, Madden etc where the majority of it's fanbase aren't actual gamers, just people who want to kill time with one another....."Bro gaming"

People in high school or work using social gimmicks to have something in common with one another. You ask one of them if they've played Half Life, Prey, Uncharted, Alan Wake etc and they will most likely say "Nah...whats that"

theWB274034d ago

@Root

Who gives a crap about shooters other than shooter fans...or RPG other than RPG fans. Who gives a crap about mountain gear other than mountain climbers.

Im an AVID gamer and still play sports games...that's an idiotic comment if I've never seen one.

Root4034d ago

@theWB27

Your totally missing the point

Those types of games come out every year, Fifa, COD, Madden etc. The fanbases are mostly made up of those types of people who have an Xbox 360 (usualy because it's cheaper and because of chat) who only ever go on those types of games. Instead of caring about gaming, they just see it as a social gimmick and don't have a clue about it untill the next COD, FIFA, PES etc.

Saying something is "idiotic" because you don't get it is immature, but it is you whats new.

theWB274034d ago

@Root

That comment did nothing to help the first one. Whatever they choose to play, they are still gamers. There are people who only play certain types of games and that's just what they prefer. Doesn't make them any less of a gamer just because they like sports or COD. Some only play RPG's...or MMORPG's or racers.

It was idiotic because not every gamer plays every genre just like not every music lover listens to every type. Car enthusiasts may only like cars from certain regions but it doesn't diminish their love.

It is coming from me...the fact that you know that means you must make that mistake often : )

Nafon4034d ago

@Foolsjoker

Any new burnout game in general!
Criterion's NFS games weren't bad, but they definitely weren't as good as Paradise.

BitbyDeath4034d ago (Edited 4034d ago )

@theWB27,

I think more to the point is that something which is known to release every year does not make for a big gaming announcement.

nix4034d ago

Burnout with split screen please... i miss racing with my mates sitting beside me.

Ritsujun4033d ago

Xbiix U Jackie Chan Rush-Hour bundle.

@theWB27: COD, Fifa, and Madden are still by and large played by a particular demographic, and that's "bros" or whatever you want to call them. You see, if you're really into games, you play most genres, and you play acclaimed games regardless of their genre, because you're genuinely interested in games and the unique experiences they offer.

"Bros" play those games because they're popular. I suspect they initially were unsure of COD until it gained enough popularity such that they didn't risk compromising their masculinity and social standing in playing it, that is to say, gaming is seen as nerdy and not a masculine activity. Madden and Fifa gained popularity obviously because they signified a "safe" game for a jock to play- they're popular AND they're based on sports they play.

I think it's down to them probably wanting to play games, but doing so runs counter to their masculine image, so they play the most acceptable games they can, and ultimately ignore the thousands of other better, and more unique and important games out there. Ultimately, ego and image become their priority.

I don't think it's a coincidence that they play these relentlessly iterated franchises either. Jocks / Bros (for want of a better term) are generally immersed in the trends of consumer society- trends which are based off of product life-cycles and relentless franchising (More ubiquity = more acceptance)- they're at the whim of such corporate forces.

Not to mention this gaming demographic is kind of growing, so games are catering more and more to them- offering crappy experiences because of it. The relentless and juvenile techonology drive in gaming seems to resemble or reflect that surface based consumer demographic too, and so we get shallow game experiences in which graphics and presentation come first, and tech is super fetishised by people.

This is all part and parcel of games entering the mainstream- they're beginning to cater to the kind of culture that they're becoming a part of.

bangshi4033d ago

This is surely just a pre-order bonus of some kind.

Best Buy Canada is hardly the best way to announce your awesome game.

1nsaint4033d ago

@WB27

I think he ment that all those games come out every year, and that the casual market doesnt care if those games are yearly.

Some of the ’hardcore’ gamers though are already raging when they hear there is gonna be a new assassins creed every year.

You're both right, for example i have tons of friends who only play fifa, to kill some time, you wont see them playing extensive games like skyrim or stuff like that.

I always have to convince them to get games like bioshock, red dead and halo by showing them trailers and stuff :p

But when they do, they love the games, trying to get all achievements, finish it on hard, play online and even buy the sequels without me needing to convince them :p

dmeador4033d ago (Edited 4033d ago )

@Root

What is the hipster gamers? I guess if people play a popular game then they aren't "real" gamers. Can you please make a list of games that they can check off to be deemed worthy?

Sounds like you don't partake in many "social gimmicks" in life.

@theWB27
Your music/cars analogy was spot on.

@Root Well you're wrong I have owned every FIFA game ever. I have completed half life and uncharted in fact I've platinumed all three uncharted's. In total I have 5 platinum's im well educated I can code etc. explain how I am a 'bro'?

Also I play fps, 3ps, rpg, action/adventure, sports. arcade, racing etc etc

Tei7774033d ago

I'm sure he wasn't speaking for a every single person who purchases such a game. From my experience at least there a tons of casual gamers who buys game like Fifa and COD and don't even know what E3 is. They buy like 2-3 games a year and not on the internet anticipating any kind of gaming announcement.

3-4-54033d ago

It probably won't be big....big to us and big to "them" is a bit different.

Big to us is a game we actually care about.

Big to them is a game they think they can make a ton of money off of, but might not be a great game.

chrispseuphoria4033d ago

I'd say that is a likely candidate despite all the disagrees. Best Buy Canada usually does many deals with Canadian publishers.

BlackCarrot4033d ago

Root and Gepenest are the typical master race types. "You're not as much of a gamer as me because I play unheard of critically acclaimed games with my stupid money PC." If you like that, go ahead, but it is frankly pathetic to create another criteria for gamer to perpetuate yourselves as better than somebody.

Personally, as I've gotten older I've begun to prefer the bro games as you call them. I simply don't have the time to sink hours into an RPG.

Gaming is a social experience, split-screen is fun all the time. From Goldeneye to 4-way RPG wars on MW2, I'll enjoy my games as I like. Now I can have a few beers and enjoy the FIFA drinking game with friends. Deal with it. Some of us have jobs.

This is in line with the EU Blog Manager saying there will be one or 2 game announcements this week.

cloud4954034d ago

Maybe a Cross-buy game between PS3 and psVita.

BitbyDeath4034d ago (Edited 4034d ago )

That genuinely, genuinely sucks. The reboot has clear flaws, but it really felt like a solid first step for this team to receive *greater* investment.

Alone in the dark is a fun game so that's unfortunate

Something about recreating old school graphics in an era of HD high poly photo realism just hits a spot. I'm not nostalgic cause I mostly played GameCube and GB/A, but it's a visual style that gets over looked even by indies.

Rynxie2h ago

Definitely a fan project. Terrible hand animations. Some characters have very bad body proportions. Some look like little kids in adult bodies. Some have short arms, small head, big hips and so on.

6 Fun Games Where You Actually Play As The Bad Guy

While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.

Profchaos3h ago

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Tacoboto2h ago

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

banger882h ago

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).
