Wasn't interested in the WiiU, but with the no used games crap the PS4 and next Xbox are using, always online crap (next Xbox) and no backwards compatibility (PS4 and i guess next Xbox)... the WiiU is looking more appealing each day that passes.

I'm waiting for the release of the PS4 and next Xbox consoles to make my decision. WiiU will probably be much cheaper by then :)
At this moment Wii U Pack Premium is 350€... when PS4 and Xbox release, Wii U Pack Premium will probably be 250€.

This years E3 is going to be very interesting indeed...

Now games like Assassins Creed IV and any Ubisoft games as well as Activision Cod series will more than likely make it to Wii U. Despite the fact that Activision being "upset with the Wii U fanbase due to poor sales on the U version. Nintendo probably has allot of Japanese titles supporting the console and may announce at E3.

But in the U.S Nintendo has always had a history of shunning third party. Though, they are the only company who made an absolute fortune on 1st party games alone, but have pushed away others in the process.

Game Cube barely had third party help. And Nintendo deliberately dropped the ball with the Wii by making it not third party friendly. Now several years later they want to cater to third party?

You can't blame devs for skipping the U version after all these years of either, lack of effort, or no effort at all. So devs see little to no interest in the Wii U.

Like I've said before, E3 season is coming up and Nintendo will be there. So lets just wait and see what they say.

If you don't know your history sure or the fact Playstation already did it with the PS Vita and PS3.

On top of that the PS4 and PS Vita will be far superior to anything the gamepad offers, I am sorry the gamepad is just a controller with a screen, the PS Vita is more than that. The PS Vita can literally be used in the same way as the gamepad but still be it's own device. That is much more than what Nintendo currently offers.

Did the PS3 and PS Vita also not exist and were in development before the Wii U? I guess not. Sure let's just give Nintendo all the credit for that idea.

Sony even back in the day was the first people to implement this idea, with the PocketStation for the PS1.

I am not saying the Wii U gamepad is shit or that no one enjoys it or that it doesn't add value to its games but don't get it twisted thinking Nintendo were the first people to think of this, they were far from it actually. Playstation and Sega were technically the first to use this type of idea.

The problem is that element like that are still gimmicks. They don't really add anything that isn't possible on other systems.
Nintendo really need to show something that uses the second screen that makes people say WOW. The Wii-mote had everyone wanting to give it a go once they saw Wii sports. The Wii-U (currently) has nothing like that.

Ironically, something along the lines of "Wii Sports U" (it's bound to happen) would probably help... During last years E3 Nintendo demoed using the pad to pan around and catch a baseball. They also showed a Gamepad on the floor being used as a golf tee and means of seeing the shot more accurately. I could see Goalkeepers in a football game using the pad to catch the ball in 1st person view. Hell, what about Freefall parachuting where you have to pan the pad around to find who you're falling with and perform stunts (yes, you'd look like an idiot)?

I dunno, I'm not a games designer (can you tell?) but I think a sports minigame collection like Wii Sports U could demonstrate the different uses really well and also be the huge public draw that Wii Sports was when the Wii launched. Simple sports mini-games can capture the non-gamer imagination a lot better than something like Warioware can - which despite creative uses of the gamepad, aint a system seller.

You all missed my point (or I wasn't clear enough). I wasn't saying the touch screen is a gimmick, I was saying that the was in which it has been used so far is. Using it for maps and such is something that can be done in other games by pausing.
The new Super Mario does offers something different by letting another player add objects into the game for other players. This is what I mean. More games need to add elements like that. Where the screen is used in a more meaningful way.
Also, where are all the TV ad's, the wii used to have loads of adverts. I haven't seen any for the Wii-U.
Hopefully Nintendo will roll out the big guns at E3.

Wii U has potential sure but Nintendos fault is/was to rely too much on their 1st party games and gimmick. 3rd pary support is nearly non existent and with the other 2 next gen consoles around the corner it can only be worse...Wii had similar problems but its success was caused by 'games' like wii fit etc. which appealed alot to non gamers and the like and getting those into the bag again is not so easy since they don't care too much about the console itself.

Maybe a range-extender can be developed. That shouldn't be impossible. NYKO has already released two power-upgrade options for the Gamepad "Uboost" and the "Power Pak". Both extend battery life majorly, even up to 8 hours.

I just wish I could work out which materials it struggles to pass a signal through... I can take the pad to the bathroom (about 20 feet away, with two brick walls between it and the Wii U) and pinch off a loaf and play Mario with ease. But I found out yesterday that my fridge door blocks it and that's only about 15 feet away.

Yeah on a console that sold 99million units to casuals. The WiiU won't do anything NEAR 99 million. So your little games sales pitch is pointless.

Wind Walker oh my days! How will a game that was on a console that sold 4 million copies on the 21 million units of GC gonna sell more on the console that has only sold 2.8 million? Not only would the WiiU have to almost double in sales. But also the attach rate would have to be 100%.

Consider the fact Galaxy sold 11million copies on a console that sold 99millilon. And previous Zelda games (on the Wii) sold 6million (TLP) and 3 million (Skyward sword) makes that very unrealistic.

It was only last month people claimed Lego City was a 'system seller' only for it to do less then 1/4 of a million.

It is a shame, but if the yearly shooters and prople that buy them are an indication of anything. The masses like stagnated gameplay, that's why CoD sells as much as it does... A great game like Ni NoKuni can't hit 1mil games sold but CoD BLOPS2 sells almost 10 million with an install base of over 75 million consoles. Sad tired gamers!

The problem with that is that it assumes that developers want or need to provide some sort of amazing advancement to gaming through use of the 2nd screen. Not every game needs 2nd screen functionality, and more often than not, it would likely only be used in the most shallow of ways.

2nd screen functions are handy at times, and occasionally a game can be tailored around such functionality, but in the real world, games are made to sell to the masses. As such limitations are worked around for all consoles, and gimmicks are only included as selling points, not for any meaningful advancement.

In ram alone the PS4 will offer 4X what the WII U could offer on its best day! Coupled with the Vitas functionality the PS4 will offer everything that the WII U is touted to offer, but on a grander scale! The vita is nothing like the gamepad, at most the vita will do offscreen play,i doubt devs will make gameplay that incorporates the vita because of the low install base, that's assuming that the vita is perfectly synchronized to the playstation, anything you do on the gamepad is in perfect sync to what is on the tv. people need to stop saying that these add-ons are like the gamepad, unless it comes with the console in any model basic, elite,slim whatever, then it is not like the gamepad,because devs won't make vita/PS combination games unless everone has a vita. By the way, the gamepad is the controller not a handheld. it doesn't need it's own seperate games so that is not a limiting factor, and as for the ram, oooh big bad ps4 has a bunch of ram, now killzone can add another 3 hours to the 8 hour linear game that everone has pretty much already played in COD and anyother shooter with the exact same gameplay.

You can use the Vita as a gamepad LBP have already done it.

Regardless of wether its taken advantage of or not it can still do it. So it can do remote play on most games (only move only games can't, even the gamepad can't be used to play off screen on every game) AND has its own games, can also be taken on the move.

Also the using Gaika tech remote play will work better with the PS4 then it does with the Vita.

And surely that fact you DON'T need a Vita is a plus? I mean its a gimmick, nothing more, but with the PS3/4 it's a choice.

Plus again the Vita offers more then the gamepad.

Since both Microsoft (SmartGlass) and Sony(Gaikai, Vita) have a second screen solution I'm not sure what the limitation is. If anything, the Wii U is limited because it doesn't have the power to run multiple second screens. The PS4 and the 720 will. Razer has proven buttons can be added later.

the title suggests that they were quoting Miyamoto (that the statement was made by Miyamoto); when in fact, it was only the article that mentioned that Miyamoto implied it. if you read the CNN article (which this article is referencing), Miyamoto didn't even mention the names of Sony and/or Microsoft. he only mentioned the feature of Wii U which allows off-TV play, and the significance of the 2nd screen. he did not even made any comparison to any other "rival" console.

This guy has been in the game for too long, and in my opinion he doesn't speak bullshit.

Look at the PS4, the controller is crap, the touch pad seems like a waste of space and the only thing it has is powerful hardware, that's not even as strong as current gaming PC's.

We all know graphics don't win sales. I'm pretty sure the PS4 and next Xbox will suffer more in there launches than the WiiU. By that time the WiiU will have a strong line up and the others will likely be playing catch up.

Its launching with titles like Watchdogs, Assassin's Creed IV, Battlefield 4, a new Call of Duty, Killzone 4, inFAMOUS, and more. I really doubt it's going to have a difficult time finding its audience at launch.

As for your complaints on the controller...they're the same ones I heard regarding the use of a touchpad on the Vita, and its remarkable what that can do when used correctly. I see nothing but potential and find it difficult to imagine it as a waste of space considering it used to be the home for nothing more than START/SELECT/PS BUTTON. A "waste of space" would imply that you have a better use for it, so, what would you suggest?

As for your weakened defense that the Wii U will be drowning in quality titles come this Fall, I don't know if I agree. I really can't see anything on the horizon that is going to be pushing Wii U sales to some boiling point that will result in Sony/Microsoft fighting an unwinnable battle. I mean, if you only wish to address hardware sales at the point of their launch, then fine...Nintendo should be ahead. After all, they had a year head start.

I'd say this coming holiday is the most important for Nintendo. They have to prove themselves with unique reasons as to why a family would choose the Wii U over something newer. Frankly, the only game our family has played that has used the Tablet in a way I imagined the Wii U to do, is LEGO City Undercover. Pretty sad when the 3rd Party partners are doing the job better than Nintendo...and even then its few and far between.

You can't predict how both NEXT-GEN consoles will do, they haven't announced prices, release dates, we still don't know the whole game lineup aside from the obvious ones like AC/COD/Madden, btw, as much as Nintendo have more hardware sales, 3rd party software will remain it's weakest point, because most of the Nintendo fanbase buys nothing more than 1st party games. Sony/MS doesn't have to worry about Nintendo anymore as they both will have strong 1st/3rd party support, so pretty much to a lot of devs, Nintendo is already out of the picture.

Not only that but PS3/360 still does have a strong franchise in the form of GTAV, & btw of course, you'll obviously get multiplats as well as those 2, but since most people already have those consoles, they wouldn't feel the need to buy another console that will play the same games as the ones they already own. So Nintendo will have a hard time selling the Wii U as they accidentally competing with 6-7 year old consoles.

Yes Sony does support their hardware with 1st party games, but Sony's games don't sell on their hardware like Nintendo's does on theirs! If you guys don't think this is a problem then you are sorely mistaken. If its true that Killzone SF is costing Sony $80 million to make and say this game goes on to only sell 2million copies. They will barely break even and this is taking a consideration that they make a $45 profit on those 2mil sold, which they probably won't. Not to mention that early reports of development cost going up on these systems were indeed true, as $80mil dollars is nothing to sneeze at if a game flops or doesn't meet a good sales quota. So if that becomes the norm for AAA games this generation then I can see the asking price of games go up...

@ CK1x- You can say that, but if you look at the big picture, Nintendo's biggest sellers are Mario & Pokemon. Metroid Prime 1 is the best selling Metroid game, it sells the same or even less than Killzone. Zelda Skyward Sword sold less than each of the Uncharted games, those games doesn't have that staying power anymore, of course Nintendo have more IPs that sells more than Sony does, but the majority that aren't Mario or Pokemon are sold around the lines of Sony games nowadays.

Also, why did you simply mention Killzone, I mean, there's Uncharted, God Of War, Gran Turismo, & others like J&D and R&C, those make a good amount of sales. And people complain at Nintendo by not bringing new IPs, Nintendo have being relying on the same IPs for years, happens to be Pikmin their newest IP, from the Gamecube days, & it sold decently. If people mention Xenoblade, I wouldn't count it as new IP since it's a part of the Xeno series that found it's birth on the PS1, same goes to Fatal Frame on PS2. So it takes more than simply Nintendo IPs to overtake Sony, as 3rd party games are also part of the equation, that is where Nintendo can't beat Sony or Microsoft at all.

IDK too much about development costs, I wouldn't be surprised if they rise, it remains to be seen as to what is Sony's plans, but as of right now they're getting huge 3rd party support, especially in the indi-dev department,& you know that's where Nintendo really is out-shined with the exception of a few. So I think they have a good understanding of what they want, & it isn't simply a FPS game like a lot of 3rd party companies does, time will tell.

Hold on to that assumption, while I'll be enjoying all the upcoming immediate day one titles the PS4 and next XBOX have to offer this year right up until the next 8 to 10 years. While you probably be waiting for the same rehashed Nintendo games exclusive's in about 3-4 years from now,that were promised to be in development.

no one cares about that touch screen controller. it has yet to contribute anything substantive to games, even when developers focus on it and really try their best to implement it.

the capabilities to put a screen on a controller have existed for quite a while. there is a reason why no one has done it before. it drives up console costs, leeches off of processing power, and doesnt really add anything significant.

you want to talk about "limited?" well I guess the PS4 and 720 are just going to have to make do with actual next gen hardware and next gen engines and be "limited" to a "regular" controller instead of an over-sized gimmicky turd.

There is no doubt that the Wii U will find its audience, if it hasn't already. My son and I are enjoying LEGO City Undercover...incredible fun. That said, until more than a handful of games (like LEGO City) use the "second screen" in engaging ways...this argument falls flat.

Sorry Miyamoto, but your development partners aren't supporting the tablet nor its potential, and I'm finding nothing but gimmicks from Nintendo's in-house team in this regard. It says something when a smaller studio can make it sing far better than Nintendo.

This guy is officially smoking crack. PS Vita and Smartglass (or whatever MS does), will over time prove better options than what the gamepad offers. The gamepad can only be used if you are close to the darn console. in my mind that is limited. Over here in 'merika we have big houses.

I'd love to be able to play games when I'm away from home. Nintendo does not offer that through the Gamepad. Sony has, or will have that option, as i'm sure MS will probably as well, at some point.

Nintendo is starting to annoy me. They need to start coming up with more mature titles and take more risks or something. They will fade away or get bought up if they don't explore other avenues or at least compete on the same level of Sony and MS.

The limited range and small battery of the gamepad sucks hard but Vita and Smartglass just seem like quick minimal additions to try to imitate the dual screen effect. Vita is a fine handheld but it doesn't need cross play at all, Sony just needs more games for it that will make us want a Vita. Mature titles from Nintendo? There are some but I doubt they would do that. I don't think they would fade away or get bought out any time soon since they have stayed relevant for several decades without third party support and change.

I have absolutely no interest in (not just playing) but, anything to do with Mario, metroid, zelda, smash bros., donky kong, starfox and Pokemon.

The fact that Sony will be heavily including Sony tablets, cell phones and the Vita (and other platforms) into the whole "Second Screen" for PS4 thing, I don't think he knows what he's talking about.

Even Microsoft has SmartGlass, and will surely include their Windows phones and Tablets as second screens.

Sure, they won't be necessary to play PS4 and NextBox, but "over time" (as he says) they'll be cheap enough for Sony and Microsoft to include WITH their consoles in bundles.

Instead of claiming you still have a place against the PS4 and nextBox, realize the mistakes you've made and move on. Sony did it with the PS3, so maybe it's Nintendo's turn to do it with the Wii-U.
