GR: I'm a Christian. You know, one of those Bible-believing "born again" folks who believe it's their purpose to bring glory and honor to God in all that they do. My faith in and relationship with my Creator is not only the most important thing in my life—it is at the very center of who I am and what I do.
Now before you write me off as some sort of self-righteous hypocrite, know that I am not here to judge, as I'm just as screwed up as anyone. I don't pretend to be perfect or a "good person" or better than anyone else; I see myself as a broken human being in need of a savior. It's not about religion, rules, or perfect attendance at church, but rather a relationship with the Creator of the universe.
That is why it has been such a challenge for me to reconcile my love for the entertainment industry (namely video games) with my wholehearted desire to serve God in all that I do. Now I'm sure some of you are rolling your eyes right now, and that is totally fine. I'm not trying to preach to you or convert you or anything; I'm just providing my own personal perspective on the video game medium, which we all hold so near and dear to our hearts.
Alone in the Dark developer Pieces Interactive has been hit with layoffs a month after its release, as per the latest information.
That genuinely, genuinely sucks. The reboot has clear flaws, but it really felt like a solid first step for this team to receive *greater* investment.
Shenmue: Reclaiming the Path is a fan game using Dreamcast-era visuals, and tells a new story within the Shenmue saga taking place in both Hong Kong and Guilin. Its expected to release on September 16th.
Something about recreating old school graphics in an era of HD high poly photo realism just hits a spot. I'm not nostalgic cause I mostly played GameCube and GB/A, but it's a visual style that gets over looked even by indies.
Definitely a fan project. Terrible hand animations. Some characters have very bad body proportions. Some look like little kids in adult bodies. Some have short arms, small head, big hips and so on.
While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.
Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.
It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny
Armored Core VI?
Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.
Is something big coming soon to branch the story?
No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).
Bioschock Infinite really brought this to the forefront in my mind because of the way the images clash with the extreme violence. One minute you're popping someone's head off with this spinning mechanical thing, the next you're having to wrestle with the themes of baptism etc.
First of all, I do like that you seem to be very sensible about games. Pointing out that the badly designed games are the ones that tend of focus on gratuitous violence and not intelligent stories and game-play.
There were religious people working at Irrational Games that resigned because of their faith. I'm sorry, but if you let your faith get in the way of your career, you don't deserve to be working in the industry. I know people will flame me because of this statement, but for those that would love to work at Irrational Games, they look like children. When someone challenges your faith, you stand strong, not act like a child and run away from the problem.
Let me add, I am by no means against religion, but I do think it runs peoples lives. That's my belief.
I give a shit why?
I dont get that need personally . I consider myself a good enough christian , and do see any rift between entertainment such as games - wich arent different in the violence offered , from movies - and faith .
More power to a christian that feel that way , if he also doesnt watch news feed , violent movies , erotica , movies wiht any kind of smut , any ill picturing of religion or parodies of them , or like minded books . Otherwise , feels hypocritical and a conveniently arbitrary choice .
If games arent good and mixeable with our faith , then neither does the rest .
"Am I stuck exclusively playing family-friendly games like Mario and Zelda until the day that I die"
I get that even less . Blood and gore aside those games are still violent and involved mostly killing . Hence my feeling about hypocrisy . Most of what separate a kratos from link is the amount of virtual ketchup on screen . Of course i'm exagerating with this example .. but still
My faith does not impact the games I choose to play. I'm probably more of the nice guy in games that offer moral choices, but where my faith has the greatest impact is not being a jerk online and making sure my wife and kids come first - so time with them takes priority - and all my M games are locked up away from the kids.
