How the PS4 Will Put an End to Some of the PS3's Biggest Issues

Push Square: "We love our good old pal the PlayStation 3, but even we can acknowledge that the console is not without fault. Its complex architecture has proved a headache for developers ever since its release almost seven years ago – and it's resulted in some less than desirable ports being published for our favourite machine. But with the more accommodating PlayStation 4 lurking on the horizon, the gripes that we've become accustomed to over the years are on their way out."

This is why I am so excited. One issue in my book that frustrated me was pushing the PS button while in game and having the PS3 lock up on me. Also when you compare trophies with someone who has a ton of them would lock the PS3 up also.

thechosenone4035d ago (Edited 4035d ago )

it wouldn't lockup the hardware to the point that you needed to reboot the machine, lets make that clear but there would be a temporary delay of a few seconds while trying to load XMB info while being in-game, yes.

I found that freeing up space on the hard-drive helps with this problem, try deleting old data files of games that you no longer play.

"it wouldn't lockup the hardware to the point that you needed to reboot the machine"

You can't speak for over 70 million PS3 owners. I'm sure it has happened to some people. I have a PS3 FAT and if I attempt to play two videos simultaneously in the web browser, the system crashes. So excited I'm trading it in towards a PS4. I can't wait to get rid of it.

Dat PSN store
seriously every time they update it it gets slower

Agreed, my biggest problem I had with the PS3 was the inability to download games, patches, and/or dlc while I was playing games online. This was already confirmed for the PS4 so anything things else that it improves on is just a plus IMO. Day 1 purchaser right here…

T24034d ago

Agreed that is a major plus

gamefreak11984034d ago (Edited 4034d ago )

Yeah I hate that you cant do such task in the background. But I believe there was no other console that could do so either so it was okay for me more than it would have been if say another console could do so.

Like I said, Sony has made the right decision to stop this PS3 BC problem once and for all, so it can start on a clean slate for future BC on future PlayStation platforms.

Question:

Is PS4 using Native OpenGL API?

because if it is... then

Valve: OpenGL is faster than DirectX — even on Windows

It really depends on what you think the PS3's biggest issues were.

For me, the biggest issues with the PS3 was backwards compatibility. So, to me, the PS4 is starting out with much more, much bigger problems than the PS3.

Monkeysmarts4034d ago

It may be a big problem to you and some others, but I hope you realize you are in the extreme minority. Cost outweighs usefulness.

Just finish your PS3 games before you get a PS4... seems like a simple solution to all the BC butthurt going on.

BitbyDeath4034d ago

Think you are just trolling, when PS3 launched it had full compatibilty so it could not have been an issue.

It really depends on how many people are bothered by the same things you are. In your case with BC, it's not very many people at all.

Xof4034d ago

Gotta love Sony fanboy logic.

Attack gamers who criticize lack of b/c and claim it's a non issue on when it comes to the PS4, then turn around and declare the Vita the greatest gaming device ever due to its PSP and PS1 library.

You can't have it both ways.

Learning from your mistakes is a key part of life.

Donnieboi4035d ago (Edited 4035d ago )

Agreed. Sony made the biggest comeback I ever seen. Sadly, of the big 3, Sony seems to be the only one learning from past mistakes. Hopefully Valve will bring some competition to keep Sony on their toes, because Nintendo and M$ are asleep.

lizard812884035d ago

I do hope the Steambox does well. This gen will be interesting with 5 consoles out there. I hope they learn from one another to improve their own, rather than mud slinging each other.

PS4
Durango
Wiiu
Steambox
OoYa

@lizard81288

Ouya isnt really a console. Its a box to play android games yes. But its def not a console to be considered upon the big 3 plus Valve. Its more along the lines or maybe pandora or the jungle. Steambox deserves to be up there cause it directly competes with the big 3

iGAM3R-VIII4035d ago

When a company does things wrog the first time they improve the second, same goes for MS, Nintendo, EA (actually change that thought about EA) lol

Typical-Guy4035d ago

The best thing about the PS4 so far is that the features are built in. No more "up to the developers"... I CAN"T FREAKING WAIT!

flyingmunky4035d ago

Yeah that was a really bad decision on Sony's part. What dev is going to go out of their way to put in custom music or remote play? 3rd party developers are lazy, they don't want to add expense to development. Sony needs to standardize these things. The ps4 is going in the right direction.

unchartedxplorer4035d ago

I hope they go all out on their first party titles.
