The Last of Us: 8 Things to Expect

Even though there isn’t so much information about specific gameplay features, there’s quite a decent list of what we’ll be seeing in game. Joel and Ellie are the main protagonists, however Ellie is a supportive companion controlled by an advanced A.I. So, what exactly can players expect from The Last of Us?

Agreed! I'm hoping there is much replay ability, hidden unlockable areas, pick ups, etc. I'd hate the max out the game my first play through.

The campaign will be the mutt's nuts so they're getting people pumped for that by selectively releasing new info.

I'm positive the multiplayer will be unique so maybe they're saving that announcement for closer to E3. but the bread and butter of this game will be the single player elements.

I'm appreciative of how careful they're being about releasing new info to ensure what we're playing is mostly fresh, unseen, unspoiled content - unlike Uncharted 3 where we'd seen almost every set piece before we'd played it.

I can't wait to explore the beautiful environments and equally dark places of Naughty Dog's post-apoc America.

Dont forget the game adds difficulty by including one hit kills from special type of enemies, dont wanna spoil it. You dont see alot of that in games these days.

Yes, the game is really realistic or so it seems from the short gameplay trailers.

There are other things that have been revealed such as being affected differently based on the where you receive wounds.

Also their is the need to prevent yourself from either bleeding-out or having a wound become infected (one of the two). To do so you need medical supplies, if none are present you must find other means to aid yourself (toilet paper and rubber bands).

I predicted somewhere on the article that exploring and collecting supplies will probably be encouraged, simply because it makes sense and makes the whole story more realistic.

I was hoping that they could give us a chance to play as Ellie at certain parts in the game. Not when she is with Joel, but possible areas where she may wonder off on her own during the story.

At the same time playing her isn't necessary, but as long as ND can create a strong bond between player and character (Ellie) then all is well.

I think Ellie is the key to defining whether this game is perceived as a masterpiece or not.

That hasn't been stated or announced, but i don't think it will happen. The only playable character seems to be Joel. I liked how they made Gear of War: Judgment, where you can assume the role of all the team's members, it's a totally new play style and it will probably be used more in upcoming games.

Sorry, but ND opted for just one playable character in Joel's character so the flow of the gameplay is more focused.

For Gears this character switching works, but like Uncharted before this, TLoU will surely benefit from just one controllable character. ND mentioned that the narrative will greatly make an impact this way.

I'd never have expected to play as a younger Nate Drake in UC3, so anything is possible.

I think offering sections of the game to play as Ellie would perhaps contextualize the bond between her and Joel, but if they do it, it must be brief. Perhaps at the beginning of the game.

What I find most interesting about the potential for this game & what hasn't been touched on much yet is the escalation & variety in enemy types & combats' progression pertaining to that...right now we only know anything about other human scavengers which require a stealthy & very measured approach, but are still kill able using whatever you might have, then we have stage 1 of the virus as 'runners', again easily killed with whatever's around, but their impairments change the way you must approach them....then they've skipped the second stage of infection which I'm sure will require something else different, leading to the third stage as the 'clickers' that can only be killed using certain objects, that also require a different approach since their sonar like hearing will take some working around.....but beyond these 3 types, we can guarantee there will at least be one other type of infected (I'm guessing more, at least 2-3), and maybe even more importantly, different groups of humans to contend with....this hasn't been really broached by anyone that I know of, but what about the military faction that is running the safe zones, and possibly their bosses? I believe late in the game we will come across some body armor or stronger weapons that will be used to contend with them...no other games I've ever played has had this kind of variety in enemy types that will truly need to be dealt with in different fashions....if used correctly, the end of the game will be a hodgepodge of different approaches used in tandem, like walking through a beautiful post apocalyptic minefield....June cannot come soon enough
