I was part of that infamous thread over at Gaf that started this whole thing and was drawn along by it against my better judgement. I naively thought that most people were genuinely concerned with the idea of 'always online' and were genuinely insulted by Adam's comments about a particular section of America, but as that thread grew so did my doubts for its intentions.

I am still interested in the contents of those Tweets and the ramifications of what he said; however, this has now become something more. My life was made a misery at school because of vindictive bullies, so it stings when I see another person on the receiving end of something like this, regardless of whether I respect the man or not.

This has become nothing short of a witch hunt and clearly dozens of posters are now actually 'getting off' on the idea of participating in the downfall of another man. This sickens me to my core and I'm embarrassed at the fact that I trusted my fellow posters over at Gaf.

We're talking about a human being here, not something evil that deserves to be ostracised. I will NOT be part of the bandwagon that finally brings this person down; I will not sit idly by while hundreds of others wait excitedly for the guillotine to drop on someone's career. Yes, he made a mistake but who amongst us hasn't? It's time to leave him alone and let him gather what reputation he has left and salvage some dignity.

If Adam DOE'S eventually lose his job over this, question the morality of feeling oddly satisfied with that outcome. I will feel shame ... I hope some of you do too.

I'm sorry but this guy didn't make a mistake. At the very least, judging from how he said what he said, he came off as a straight up douchebag to be honest. And sure, even the nicest person on earth can be rude at times, but it takes practice to become this douchey... It's not something that happens overnight.

To go on a public site like twitter, and spout a bunch of nonsense and insulting people in the process, and also compromising the company you work for, is basically asking to be fired.

I would understand your point if someone hacked his personal email and read a private convo between him and a friend, and exposed this. Then yeah, I'd be like, lay off his back as this is supposed to be his private thoughts so to speak. But no one pointed a gun to his head and said; "here, go on twitter and enlighten us with your wisdom."

We both write for websites gribble, and you know that because of this, we know that we cannot go and just spout nonsense on forums while being so insensitive to people. It is simply not smart, but this guy had to know that he works for MS and that his job would heavily depend things he say when he speak about his company's product.

If I work for Disney World, and I go on facebook and start spouting nonsense about Six Flags, and then making stupid analogies about price of food going up in a way to justify a potential price hike in ticket prices for Disney World, then I'm already in trouble. But to also insult someone who can't come to Disney World because of where they live by saying "who the hell would want to leave there?" That is it, I should be expecting some sort of disciplinary action from Disney World.

I understand what you are saying but those comments are taken out of context -- the context being that he was fooling with a friend. I was interested in his tweets about 'always online' but it rapidly morphed into a conversation about those jabs at his friend. The two then became one and the dislike of 'always online' spread to dislike of his other comments.

When he said "who the hell would want to live there?" he wasn't REALLY being disrespectful. In Britain we say things like that all the time. It's just considered banter here, if the context is evident. He had to express that in as few words as he could because that's the nature of Twitter. Perhaps simply adding '...' at the end of that sentence could have hinted at something more than disrespect. Or perhaps putting two exclamation marks instead of a question mark would have done the job.

Yes, he works for a huge corporation and, yes, he should have considered how many other people would read that, but he IS a human and DESERVES the chance to occasionally behave as humans do.

Color me jaded or cynical , but i'm not buying it . The context was already there ... another one " ahaha we were just kidding" , basically damage control was provided , once the backlash was noticed .

At least that's how i read it . I'd be more sympathetic , if he instead straight out apologized and said he just went a tad too far , instead of providing another context for the story .

The guy outed what could be a huge trade secret for MS. If he had done it respectfully he would have been praised, but his reputation would be ruined and his chances of getting another job in the industry would be slim to none. I agree, at this point people really should lay off the guy. I agree that he made a mistake, and...well glass houses and all that. I don't believe he should be made the bad guy, as he just came off as a putz, and lets face it we have that every day online. This debate should be focused squarely at MS.

At this point, the guy is damn lucky if MS doesn't pursue legal action against him. This could potentially cost them hundreds of millions of dollars if it causes them to have to change their product, or could just cost that in damage control marketing alone.

I'm an xbox owner and I have always planned on getting the new xbox....if these rumors are false.

And I'm not going to hide the fact that I feel that these rumors are fake and that microsoft's plans are going to be different.

Always online has several interpretations and I'm not going to let one of them rule me in my decisions and judgements. I'd rather just wait until microsoft actually announces their console before jumping ship.

And what's microsoft being an American company have anything to do with their consumers? Just like sony and nintendo, microsoft's products span the globe and people all over the world are their customers.

Agreed, these rumors about the restriction of the second hand games and permanente internet connection are false, MS is very smart to make a big mistake like this. Exists a bad antecedent like Simcity, that was a DRM big failure.

I agree completely. There is no reason to write off MS just yet. There are too many unknowns, and even the biggest which is, is it true? What it comes down to is that we don't know how it will be implemented, or for what purpose, or to what extent. All those are very important factors to consider before writing off the next Xbox due to this.

That being said, I find nothing wrong with discussing the implications under certain scenarios, and to make our voices heard. No doubt at this point, MS is listening(particularly if true), whereas they may not have been before.
