NVIDIA Readies GeForce GTX Titan LE With Cut Down GK110 Core

A few weeks ago, it was reported that NVIDIA could possibly be working on a second variant of their GeForce GTX Titan GPU or a cut down version to be precise. Sweclockers managed to find out the codename of this new GPU through HWInfo’s newly added database entries which is to be called GeForce GTX Titan LE.

I hope this is true. The Titan is too damn expensive.

I have a gtx 680 but Im thinking about just buying another one for SLI instead..

Titans problem is that it isn't reaching the clockspeeds the other high end parts are. This is understandable because of the huge size of the die and faintly prototype whiff of the silicon revision which is why it is such a limited edition (10k units).

If nvidia have better revisions of the silicon and can also chop off some units they might also be able to do better on the clocks so that a cut down version isn't all that much slower than a full fat.

This is actually what they did with GTX480 anyway.

They could get a better average performance and more usable parts to sell by cutting out a shader cluster and then being able to bump up the clocks a bit.
