SEGA Apparently Letting European Retailers Know Not To Expect Aliens On Wii U

According to one German site, SEGA has been letting retailers know not to expect Aliens: Colonial Marines for the Wii U, with the game apparently cancelled.

The Wii U version, outsourced, was originally meant to be the best version of the game, but Aliens has suffered critically following a buggy, underwhelming release on other platforms.

That's terrible if it turns out to be true. Still would have liked to see what the Wii U version would have been like and if there were any cool gamepad uses. Guess it was never meant to be..

Way to go Gearbox, you give PS3 and 360 users a crappy game, and as a result of the poor reception, they scrap the Wii U version...

Rusty5154032d ago

Sir, are you sober? The definitive version of shit is still shit.

iplay1up24031d ago

Well yes and no. Remember Team Ninja took Ninja Gaiden 3 which was crap on PS3 and 360, and made it a much better game on Wii U. Gameplay, more blood, and animations were made what they should have been with on other systems.

And you think wii u owners are going to invest in this cesspool of a game?

Tultras4032d ago

WiiU owners don't seem to invest in most third party releases.

RFornillos44032d ago

how come this is considered a rumor when Sega already confirmed that it's cancelled?

now in the next few days and/or weeks, i'm hoping a video will surface of what the Wii U version (made by Demiurge) would have been like (they say the "demo" was actually the one coming from Wii U.

porkChop4032d ago

The demo wasn't the Wii U version. It was a custom build that was built specifically to garner interest in the game and make the game look amazing, and it ran on PC. It was thrown together very quickly by Timegate. The real game never looked anything like that on any platform. Most features and scenes that were shown in the demo are not in the final game and never were at any point in development. Even the final PC version looks/plays nowhere near that good. It was all just a big lie.

Think about it. That demo is the game that everyone wanted and still wants. If the Wii U version looked anything like that then it wouldn't be cancelled.

i mentioned that there are speculations about it.

anyway, if the Wii U version was developed by Demiurge (alone, and no integration with other studios -- as reported), then who knows what they have come up with. so like i said, i'm hoping a video will leak of what that is so we could at least see what Demiurge's work would have been.

This is not even a rumor, it was confirmed by SEGA to IGN today, and it was later clarified to Game Informer that it was because of the poor reception of the game and that they have several projects still in the works for the Wii U.

WOW expect those so called fantastic developments to be released sometime at the end of next year.............

TongkatAli4032d ago

This is a blessing and good news for the Wii U if true.

MasterCornholio4032d ago (Edited 4032d ago )

The Wii U needs games badly but it doesn't need garbage. Despite the fanboys moaning and groaning about the cancellation even if the game was "better" on the Wii U it still would have been crap.

Edit: wow Nintendo fanboys are desperate to play games even terrible ones. Look even if they released the Wii U version it still would be the same game and if anything would be equal visually to the PC version. Stop fantasizing over the demo because it was run on a PC and not a Wii U and in the end was a way to scam fans of the franchise. But anyways 3rd party games sell terribly on the Wii U so it would have flopped on the console even if the game was good.

What a crock. I was going to buy this for Wii U because of all of the hype behind the Wii U version. "best looking" "gamepad is the best controller for shooters". Then I rented it for PS3 and it was awful. I am not sure what game these developers were playing, but it was not the same game I played on PS3. Thank God I did not pre-order.

The Saboteur - criminally underrated and a fantastic mechanic of bringing colour back to Nazi-occupied Paris.

The article lists Bulletstorm, Sleeping Dogs, and Aliens: Colonial Marines.

Can't argue with any of those really, but I would add Resident Evil Operation Racoon City and Metal Gear Survive to that list. Both terrible games from good franchises.

Bulletstorm, I actually liked the gameplay but the atrocious writing and characters made me despise the game by the end of it.
