Tomb Raider, A Good Game That Could Have Been Great

Tomb Raider, to its credit, is a good game. It was well worth the money and I am sad to hear that it still didn’t meet its target. But its not as nearly as good as it could have been. It could have been GoTY material with very slight changes to the way its played.

It does borrow a LOT from Uncharted, but then again, when Uncharted came out it was dubbed 'Dude Raider'. I love Uncharted but Tomb Raider did have some features that were nice like level progression and so on, but the multiplayer was terrible!

Imalwaysright4038d ago

It borrows NOTHING from Uncharted. Everything we see in Uncharted has been done in other games YEARS before Uncharted was ever released.

Each to his own i guess, it is an opinion piece after all :)

Every game copies from other games. Every movie copies from other movies. It's the way the world works.

Halo 4 copied the 'ordnance drops' from Call Of Duties Care package. Call Of Duty copied the Theater mode from Halo.

It doesn't bother me, it's just adding great features to games.

Imalwaysright4037d ago

No, its not opinion, its a fact. There is NOTHING original about Uncharted.

This game was great. I literally have no idea what this guy is talking about. I loved that this chick was a badass. Who wants to play as some scared girl who wants to run from the bad guys. This chick said, "f*ck that." She stood her ground and f*cked a lot of grown ass men up.

I have zero complaints about this game. And it isn't an Uncharted clone, the structure of the game is way different. Crystal Dynamics did this cool linear/open world model that I haven't seen before and it's really cool.

I actually liked the fact that she yells at them cause I also did, it's so nice watching the scared little girl turning into a badass.

Spoilers@@@@

It was all good until a demon casting a lightning bolt and crashed the plane. Than it just went downhill from there.

I liked how it started, and when lara went on the pole and made the rescue call sitting on the tip of the pole high up in the beautiful mountain, my heart was trembling, best moment of the game for me.

Than I was wonderin how she gonna climb back down. Than after she came down w a rope I was like wtf? Than the demon uses the weather and crashes the rescue plane I was like wtf? I thought the crazy tribal ppl would lay ambush on the ground for them. But that didnt happen.

Many gamers probably liked the battle against the oni. And due to square enix influence, they probably put that there. But for me it just killed it.

The somewhat realistic element all gone. Ill disregard the plotholes since most plots have loopholes.

I’m Glad Atlus & SE Changed Dates To Avoid Competing With Shadow Of The Erdtree

Saad from eXputer: "I'm glad I don't have to choose between Square Enix, Atlus, and FromSoftware due to bad release windows and Shadow of the Erdtree."

More intelligent than guerilla games

raWfodog4h ago(Edited 4h ago)

Atlus is releasing their game one week before Erdtree, SE is releasing theirs one week after.

HZD released four days before Zelda, HFW released one week before Elden Ring.

It seems to me like they are still releasing their games too close to Erdtree.

I find his comments around how Balan turned out to be very insightful as to why the game is trash. He basically apologises for its existence

solideagle13d ago

can you please give some of us who don't know anything about this, a summary of what happened?

Chocoburger13d ago

Balan was knowingly rushed out by S-E, it had an extremely short dev cycle and was fairly low budget.
Naka was the game's director until near the end when he was fired or perhaps he quit, I forgot.

carrotcakeag13d ago

@Chocoburger Yeah they did fire and replace him which caused him to unload a bunch of rants about the company. The project only existed because of Naka in the first place, he convinced Square to give him one shot at making a platformer. They gave him an opportunity but pulled the rug out before he was done for reasons not explained.

Please o please don't turn dragon quest into final fantasy square enix we dont wont that. Dragon quest works well just as it I. Plus you'll piss off Japanese fans to.

jznrpg17d ago

Hopefully they don’t. From this it doesn’t sound like that is the case and development is just taking too long.
