XMNR: Bungie's Joseph Staten dropped new clues into the development of Bungie in an interview released Wednesday that suggest that the mythic sci-fi shooter might be episodic.

if its episodic i wont be buying

andibandit4038d ago

Episodic =maybe ill check it out once all episodes are released

Transporter474038d ago

How does that determine if you will buy it? From what i seen it is kind of like an MMO, and if that's the case that is not a bad thing.

_-EDMIX-_4038d ago

So...it having more content in the future is bad? J....just stupid. I'm not sure how anyone can say they are not buying because of that. So when they are making new planets "OH DAMN, should have never bought this game...they have DLC coming CRAP" LOL!

More is always bad, we want as less as possible here buddy.

Destiny is a day 1 on PS4 for me! If its a MMO style game, I want it on a system that I will be playing a WHOLE LOT!

Also take a look at what Bungie has said about the traveling! It suppose to be seamless, take time etc. It sounds quite EPIC!

dude dont get me Wrong.. destiny looks awesome i want to buy it.. i would rather pay one time for the whole game instead of knowing im missing parts to my game. i like to play at my own pace.. i dont like waiting for more episodes to come out or how ever it works.. i want to buy the whole game if not then ill be skipping this one thats just the way i spend my money..

DLC is one thing
Episodic is another
two completely diferent methods

Well i suppose that's a way to put it, but if it is episodic, we don't know how big each episode is and how many they will release at one time, they could release a big chunk of the game, and slowly keep adding them episodically which could work fine, depending on how the end product is, so don't judge it yet if it is episodic.

MysticStrummer4038d ago

Episodic content is fine with me. Walking Dead was really great that way, leaving me looking forward to the next installment. Defiance will be doing some of that too, with "Episode Missions" that will change along with the show. I'm already looking forward to more of those, even though I still have lots of other mission types to do in the game.

BattleAxe4038d ago

I want to buy a game as a full package, I hate how developers are making episodic content or making a game with the most basic amount of content they can get away with just so they can sell you DLC.

This is one of the reasons I'm completely done with Call of Duty games. Battlefield is certainly a better game, but DICE have been playing the same game as Activision when it comes to DLC.

I think that people are going to buy fewer games because of this trend, and that can only hurt developers.

I can almost guarantee we won't have to pay for it, at least in the initial "season".

Bungie has been all about giving players an incentive to come back to the game for years after release, so something like this doesn't surprise me.

thechosenone4038d ago

Is $60 really not enough these days? They have to come up with new ways to squeeze more money out of us.

It depends how they do it. The Walking Dead made me more accepting of the episodic model but I still prefer the single purchase model.

And if they really are pulling from The Wire we're gonna get some cool ass plot lines. Maybe the best show on TV ever.

_-EDMIX-_4038d ago

Took the words right out of my mouth. I finished the Walking Dead last week......BEST GAME OF 2012 HANDS DOWN! I liked a lot of games last year, this game damn near made me cry at the end. Getting Season 2 DAY 1, TT Games is showing how to do episodic games right!

Godmars2904039d ago

Aren't MMOs largely episodic via updates?

What they may be trying to do could be more sequential and connected, but still likely the same.

Probably too much to ask them to have some good or at least decent writers working on this.

e-p-ayeaH4039d ago

If its something like Fallout 3/New Vegas DLC im in

Jek_Porkins4038d ago

I wonder why people aren't complaining about Destiny being DRM? It is a hot button issue, Bungie is a big developer and from what I understand we all dislike the idea of not being able to play a game that requires internet.

Queasy4038d ago

Cause it would be like complaining that World of Warcraft, Defiance, or World of Tanks requires DRM....

rdgneoz34038d ago

Destiny has a single player to it, which you still need to be online for. Its more like comparing it to Diablo 3. Sure you need to be online to play with your friends, but if you want to go it alone then why do you need to be online?

And if you didn't notice, D3 had horrible lag at times in the beginning that would disconnect you even when you were playing single player. Why do you think PC players are annoyed that PS3/PS4 players get to play the game offline?

BitbyDeath4038d ago

Probably cause it's not being designed as a single player game. Unlike Simcity which works perfectly fine as single player and should always have that option.

Destiny Made Over $160 Million In Microtransaction Revenue In Less Than 2 Years

Destiny has made over $160 million in MTX revenue, and these numbers only account the data from late 2017 to early 2019.

Sgt_Slaughter331d ago

That's extremely low for microtransactions, especially for a game that's essentially designed around it

LucasRuinedChildhood331d ago (Edited 331d ago )

This was back when the game wasn't free to play.

The figures are from November 2017 to February 2019 (1 year and 4 months).

Based on that projection, the MTX revenue for Destiny 2 likely would have been closer to ~$240m for 2 years.

Not sure if premium expansions are included in that figure either although ... I'd hope that they are though and that most of the revenue was for actual content like Forsaken.

People spend way too much money on cosmetics.

Rude-ro331d ago (Edited 331d ago )

Seasons($10 and just got bumped to $12) and dungeon keys($10 each, two a year) are through the eververse(micro transaction) store.
So for those two years, in order to play a season, you would pay through micro transactions.

Sonic1881331d ago (Edited 331d ago )

Bungie Marathon will be worse since it's designed around it as well

Kurt Russell331d ago

It makes me sad to agree... but at the same time I am looking forward to giving it a go. Destiny 2 is so far in, I find it difficult to figure out what I am meant to do first.

buffig331d ago

I think FIFA alone makes over $1bn a year from mtx

anast331d ago

FIFA promotes a worldwide sport. It should make more money than destiny.

CantThinkOfAUsername331d ago (Edited 331d ago )

Let's compare something similar. Apex Legends and its ridiculous $18/$40 skins make EA a billion each year.

z2g331d ago

For as much as ppl complain how much they hate microtransactions, they sure don’t act like it. No wonder they aren’t going anywhere.

spicelicka331d ago

By "people" you're referring to millions and millions of people. Obviously the ones complaining aren't necessarily the same as the ones spending all that money.

There's millions that purchase MTX and there's nothing we can do about it

I've been thinking about playing through D1 again before it goes away...

CobraKai482d ago

That’s the sad reality of a game like this. I bought it, invested lots of money, and it can go away at anytime. I still think this was more fun than 2.

jeromeface481d ago

prob because 2 is a grindfest slog

spoonard479d ago

That's the bummer of 'games as a service'.
