nobody said virtual sport games will replace sport! it's games with body motion at the same time.
I remember track & field on PSone i broke the X button on my controller, now with motion control gaming things just turn more realistic, that's all! but nothing will replace a good tough workout at the gym

Honestly I used to scoff at people calling gaming a sport however seeing how chess can be considered one, then I guess gaming has a legitimate claim too. Having said that though, those "pro gamers" who sit around gaming 12+ hours a day have absolutely no right to call themselves athletes like some delusional gamers do. To group them with people who are training for say the Olympics is an insult and a complete mockery of the hard work real athletes have to put in.

They are "sports" to a degree, but they are not athletic sports and are not recognized as such by any mainstream sports organizations. That may change, but they shouldn't ever be considered athletic enterprises, much as one would be hard pressed to consider darts, chess or snooker athletic endeavors.

nobody ever said they were athletic lol but you said it yourself "sit around gaming 12+ hrs a day" to be a pro gamer thats the time and dedication it takes. im certainly not willing to do that and most people arent in much of the same way that i dont want to train 8+ a day for the olympics. its still a sport, just two different kinds. plus watching what some of these peeps can do, esp in fighting games is very impressive

If you go by the criteria that he sets with his comparison to chess and poker, along with the statement about the two types of "sport," then yes. He has a point.

Now in comparison to PHYSICAL sports, however, he's wrong. And personally, I think considering something like POKER to be a sport at all is f'n stupid.

The problem is our definition of sport. We connect sport to being physical. Meanwhile, chest and poker, or gaming is more about mental prowess. They are all competitive requiring a show of sportsmanship. Poker BTW, has been around longer then physical sports we celebrate today, unsure about soccers foundation. I would also consider a Poker champion on the highest level to be far more impressive then the likes of a Joe Flacco, jus' sayin.
