Top 5 Xbox 360 Failed Publicity Stunts

To get ahead in the ranging console war that is always underway competitors might do things to gain some extra attention from fans. This extra attention from fans can be considered a ‘publicity stunt’. As the current-gen console war is coming to an end players probably already have their mind set on which next-gen console they will buy based off of what they preferred in the current-gen standings. With the Xbox 360 and PS3 being the two favored consoles gamers will probably take an interest in the next-gen versions of their favored console of the two based off of what they like now. We think both of these consoles were great and held their own very well with one another. Saying that Xbox has pulled a lot of stunts solely to get attention isn’t saying that we think one console is better than the other in current generation standards but it is saying that Xbox has pulled a few strings that makes players think ‘what is Microsoft thinking.’ While both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 are still...

It would be nice if more games had Avatar Awards.

Decaf_PIxel_Kat4032d ago

Yeah, I would rather spend my money on games than on avatar accessories.

TheSuperior 4032d ago

Thats so true. Its odd because i like the idea of having my avatar with stuff from my favorite games but I would never buy anything for it. Who knows if stuff like avatar awards/ premium themes heck even arcade games or other downloaded games will even carry over to next-gen.

i miss that game. It was fun to play when I got home from work.

It was a test to see how it would work and even though it was a successful test, MS obviously felt they wanted to go in a different direction. It could make a comeback.

I know it was always packed with players trying for a shot at being the "1".

nukeitall4031d ago

That is what I used to say, but then I got attached to my avatar. I don't buy too many things, but a few items on rare occasions has happened.

I really liked avatar awards, and it's too bad not more games have them. I wonder why?

Having a presence in Japan was a pretty big failed publicity stunt.

specialguest4032d ago

None of these listed are what you call a publicity stunt. They're just failed Xbox features.

i liked premium themes but ms sucks at pricing. if they warmed up to the $1 bill a little more i can almost guarantee they would sell more of the useless sh*t buuuuuuuut, nobody wants to pay 2-3 or more dollars for crap like that. thats 2 hot and spiceys from mc donalds

Silly Xbox Gamers are for Nintendo

StrongMan4031d ago

I liked 1 vs 100. Too bad it failed.

darthv724031d ago

it wasnt a failure because the public wasnt interested. It was a success in that sense, there were always people scheduling the next round to play.

They had plans for other prime time multiplayer games. MS failed it or perhaps they just couldnt secure the license to continue it.

An honorable mention to this failed list would probably be Game Room. It was a neat concept but the games were so.....old.

I like my share of classic games but they just didnt offer enough "arcade" games as the majority were from the 2600, intelevision, etc.

It's A Crime That There's No Sleeping Dogs 2 Yet

Huzaifah from eXputer: "Sleeping Dogs from the early 2010s is one of the best open-world games out there but in dire need of a resurgence."

LG_Fox_Brazil1d ago

I agree, I consider the first one a cult classic already

isarai18h ago

You say "yet" as if it's even possible anymore. United Front Games is gone, along with anyone that made this game what it is

CrimsonWing695h ago

That’s what happens when games sell poorly. And I’ve seen people wonder why people cry when a game sells badly… this is your answer.

solideagle4h ago

Majority of the time it's true but if a company/publisher is big (in terms of money), they can take a hit or 2. e.g. I am not worried about Rebirth sales as Square will make Remake 3 anyway but if FF 17 doesn't sell then Square might need to look for alternative. <-- my humble opinion

Doesn’t Microsoft own the IP now since they acquired Activision?

Abnor_Mal5m ago

Oh okay, Activision owned True Crime, but when that didn’t sell as intended it was canceled. Six months later Square Enix bought the rights and changed the title to Sleeping Dogs.*

*As per Wikipedia

Sleeping Dogs was a sleeper hit back then. It was fantastic. It actually still is. Would love a sequel to this, or at least a revive of True Crime series.

Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-earth II - PC Wore it Better

Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-earth II was an intriguing and unique RTS title, that sadly suffered in its console port.

dadavis199215h ago

Was just thinking about this game and wishing I had a way to revisit it. The way EA scrubs these titles from existence once their licensing runs out is horrid.

Michiel19894h ago

there is a client made by modders and it also works online.

kevco334h ago

Indeed. The game can still be played online on PC.

Xbox 360 players, though? Bang outta luck.
