This Week in Gaming History: The Undertaker’s Video Game Streak Hits 42

It’s that time of year where the WrestleMania streak of the legendary Undertaker is talked about quite a bit. The veteran WWE Superstar has appeared at a record-setting 20 WrestleMania events and come out the victor in all of them.

The WrestleMania streak, however, isn’t ‘Taker’s only amazing run. Starting with WWE WrestleMania Steel Cage Challenge in 1992, the Phenom has appeared in 42 consecutive video game titles spanning every console generation since, including every Sega console, every Nintendo console (except the Virtual Boy, but nobody counts that) and every PlayStation and XBox generation to date.

Wrestling may be a childish pile of garbage these days with it being the PG era meant for small kids, but I still love Taker. Long live Taker!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Gamers have the power and they are the Ives who will decide if physical stays or not.. physical is here to stay, but good that a guy like this confirms

jznrpg66d ago

Keep up the physical copies I’ll keep buying PS and Nintendo consoles.

shinoff218365d ago

Fking word. Physical is the key. People would be surprised because the misconceptions out there but there's a sh ton of us that still prefer this route

ApocalypseShadow66d ago

One high end console has always been a benefit. The other is no longer a necessity.

Only competition there ever was, was when one launched a year to a year and a half early. Based on this generation, the other would have to launch 2 to 4 years early just to compete. Because buying a huge part of the industry, having a multiple game sleep mode, cheaper in price, smaller form factor, supposedly having better BC and a day one subscription service, has still resulted in another huge ass kicking.

Yay for physical Take Two.

Knightofelemia66d ago

I wouldn't really call it competing when a company is dead last in sales when compared to the rival company. I will always stick around for physical copies of games. Moment games go all digital is the day I bring the SNES and Genesis out of hibernation and just stick to retro.

So 2.47% of the global population have a copy of gta v no wonder they don't want to release vi there's still so many people who haven't brought v

Obvious sarcasm here

Abriael67d ago

Ha ha, we should probably count that a lot of people have 2 or 3 copies by now, for different platforms.

Cacabunga67d ago

RDR2 deserves much more praise.. game is unbelievable

KwietStorm_BLM67d ago

To think that 5mil sold is considered a huge success for any game in general, and 10 is amazing. I cannot believe people are still buying this.

Themba7667d ago

I keep saying that’s why the 7th generation was the most loved because of gta5 and Skyrim.

Demetrius66d ago (Edited 66d ago )

Well hopefully millions went to gta 6 singleplayer mode to make it extra epic but knowing rockstar nowadays there won't be a full support for singleplayer, mainly online will be the focus i bet but I hope atleast theres plenty to do in the open world and not just look good with little to nothing to do, after gta 6 ain no tellin when we will get another rockstar title even tho the mfs sucked in millions from red dead 2 as well I miss when we got more than 1 game a gen from them they always delivered, so many key staff members left not even just the well known names

GTA 6’s Publisher Says Video Games Should Theoretically Be Priced At Dollars Per Hour

Forbes writes: "While Take-Two is riding high on their announcement that a GTA 6 trailer is coming, its CEO has some…interesting ideas on how much video games could cost, part of a contingent of executives that believe games are underpriced, given their cost, length or some combination of the two."

robtion154d ago (Edited 154d ago )

Yeah I'm thinking this CEO has not heard of of quality over quantity.

I think pacing is more important than game length.

outsider1624154d ago

Dollars per hour. MW3 should be 3 dollars then for its campaign.

neutralgamer1992154d ago

Exactly but that they want to charge a base $70 price. Honestly only way things will change is a major gaming crash. People say it’s not possible but history has through the greed leaves fi bad decisions and that ends up crashing the market

Too many suits who never heard of games just want to invest so they can make a profit. They rather have the least amount of development resources. So many OG R* devs have already already

bradfh154d ago

Coming from the same company that charge for Xbox360/PS3, Xbox 1/PS4, and Xbox X or S/PS5

badz149154d ago

But they care charging $63 for the MP

OptimusDK153d ago

If you only buy for the campaign

wesnytsfs153d ago

Yep and Spiderman 2 is like 10 bucks. Disappointed in both titles for their length raise prices and they shorten campaign stories.

Expect a mayor digital service to take this into consideration for their 15 year plans.

StormSnooper154d ago

What a greedy idiot.

I swear they are trying to push us to that with services.

I say F you GTA guy.

LordoftheCritics155d ago

Ah so that's why RDR2 opening was super slow.

Number1TailzFan155d ago

Lmao how greedy can they get, sit on piles of cash and still want more. Then they have the cheek to release half assed remasters.

Terry_B155d ago

Due to this statement I am going to wait and buy GTA 6 when it is at 20 bucks. Its not like there are not more than enough other good games to play.

ShwaaMan154d ago

I hear you, but can you even get GTA 5 for $20 unless it’s a sale or something? They have milked every ounce out of that game, and kept the price above $40 for at least 5 years after its launch.

StormSnooper154d ago

He can with a physical copy. Which is why they are pushing us to digital only future.

Profchaos154d ago

Good luck GTA v took years to get there

shinoff2183154d ago

I dont agree with him as far as sentiment but I do buy my games like that. I'll pay full price for rpgs but not a shorter game unless it's an uncharted or last of us type game(not just those literally) I'm more inclined to pay full price for a dragon quest games instead of a Alan wake or something to that extent.

jznrpg154d ago

I got a lot of hours in Uncharted playing on hardest difficulty but I get what you are saying. Callisto Protocol , Bright Menory Infinite and short games like that I will generally wait on those.

senorfartcushion154d ago

I go the opposite route. Games like Bright Memory and such I pay for full price and leave the longer games.

shinoff2183154d ago

Those couple you named are what I'd call my 20 dollar games or less. Unless it's a buy 1 get 1 then I'd try to find 2 of those types for 20 to 30

RedDevils154d ago (Edited 154d ago )

I like the way you think, I do the same. I spend 100hrs+ on RPG so I usually pay full price, single player games like Spiderman 2 I likely only spend $40.

Shane Kim154d ago

I do the other way around. I'm likely to not complete a game you have to invest hours upon hours into, that's why I wait until they are cheaper.
