If this doesn't get people pumped about what will be possible next generation on consoles and PCs then I don't know what will.

That looks vastly beyond anything we currently see in real-time graphics, yet we really will be getting that quality soon.

I know the Unreal engine is capable of more color. But it's funny that they'd choose a near monochromatic look to show off their engine...and games. It's like a running gag Epic plays on themselves.

whats killing me is the fact that its running on a single GTX680 in real time.... which means PC gamers could have been had this level of graphics years ago.
but it took for consoles to upgeade their hardware before anyone upgraded their engines...

Right consoles held this level of graphics back,not the fact there is no standard for gaming PCs,drives problems,API overhead and every two years there is a new gpu gen,no,none if that contributes to being held back but consoles.

I've been saying that PC gaming has become somewhat dependent on consoles in this aspect for a while now. Especially for most multiplatform games. High-end PCs haven't been living up to their potential for this reason (aside from mods), so I haven't bothered with them since I get a very similar(almost the same) experience on consoles.

I understand what you mean by consoles holding back the pc world a little. But in all honesty its a necessary evil. Some people dont have the money or the know how to invest in a gaming rig, so the right choice for them is a console since its all plug and play. The develpers increase their fanbases and even tho develpment cycles may be stunted a little by consoles, the increased revenues of those fanbases make better games in the future for all platforms. So just be patient young skywalker the awsomeness will eventually catch up to your PC. But youll be able to upgrade!

it has nothing to with technology but everything to do with money. consoles getting higher sales so they lead for that simple fact. if everyone bought gaming PC then it would jump to the top and be lead platform.

I won't even get started on this "social gaming" crap they've bought into. Everyone's on this quest to be the gaming facebook they are losing touch with reality. Focusing on women as the new core market...Come on man really?

I get what you are saying, but like boodi expressed, you have to notice it also has fixed camera angles, and animations that have been fine tuned to look the best at those angles.

Don't get me wrong, it's still impressive, just in the in game cut scene kind of way. There is still no doubt that we will see far better looking games over the years to come.

None of those effects had any actual impact on the game play.

To make a CGI movie, they don't need to use a game development kit like UE4. The film industry has far more advanced CGI tech for that. This tech demo is to show what's possible in a GAME, that's being rendered in real time. The point of the tech demo was to display the engine's dynamic lighting and particle system features. Not animation.

It's a tech demo. It's not gameplay and it's not meant to represent a game, it's built to show off the technical power of the engine that it's running on, which it does effectively.

It is however all real-time footage.

I don't think you quite understand how graphics in 'real time' work.

Everything in any game you have ever played was "pre-designed."

With that said, the animations, the bullets the particle effects are all being produced by a single GTX 680, even if they are scripted.

This tech demo is literally telling you that this level of detail is possible on a GTX 680. This is believable as the graphics hardware is not the only factor in rendering pixels on your screen.

You can have all the power you want and still push crappy graphics without a solid engine.

I think the only limitation here would be storage space. To produce a game with that much detail and have a decent length campaign would be well over 20 gigs. This is becoming less of a problem for the consoles as Sony and Microsoft are going Blu Ray.

PC is starting to get bad. Between Battlefield 3, Bioshock Infinite, Dead Space 3, I am at nearly 100gigs of storage. I hope PC starts releasing games on Blu Ray and having a small install with the majority of the game running on the disc.

I meant CG-quality as a general statement. It looks amazing, and some parts of the video I've only seen done in prerendered cutscenes, so I was simply praising their engine! :-)
