I have been playing RPGs my whole life, specifically JRPGs. I started with Final Fantasy and Phantasy Star 3 and those two games hooked me on the genre. Over the past few years JRPGs have been a little hit and VERY miss. A few good titles on the Wii come to mind, but other than that it was pretty bad out there. This year changed all that when Ni No Kuni came out on the Playstation 3. I had hope for the genre again and soon purchased the new Fire Emblem and Etrian Odyssey. They were both fine editions into the genre. Were they coming back? I had hoped so and possibly hyped myself up too much for the next JRPG I would play which was Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory. I'm actually kind of sad you didn't like this. I'm a huge fan of this series and have enjoyed the titles thus far.

Just the incredibly long moments of complete and utter nonsense in the dialogue. I usually love nonsense, but its not GOOD nonsense...

If you really have been playing JRPGs "your entire life" you would know the difference between Ni No Kuni and an Otaku-RPG, lol. And you would have reviewed this appropriately.

This game is not that bad. If you went in expecting Ni No Kuni then 1) you're an idiot and 2) you're playing this wrong.

NISA published this game, but Compile Heart was the developer, not NIS.

Compile Heart is owned by Idea Factory and aside from the contract to localise the game, in no way related to NIS or NISA.

ok buddy, same basic thing. I've played COMPILE HEART games before, there happy? I mean, how terrible I must be to use the company that publishes the title. In proper conversation If i said to someone, "nis game" they'd know what i was talking about. But since youre typing with your internet penis, you have to push up your glasses and say "well actually".

When I think JRPG I think random overworld encounters, menu based combat, and quirky characters with often lost in translation dialogue. I have no fucking idea what Ni No Kuno or Otaku-RPG means myself but I don't think that would discredit a reviewers opinion of a game. That being said - game looks like hot garbage.

Otaku-RPG is referencing the audience to which this game is aimed. You'll often hear the fan base of these games state that the reviewer shouldn't have reviewed it in the first place and it is in part true.

Otaku games get littered down with many anime tropes and cliches that won't be appreciated by the average person. If you've bought such a game without knowing you're in for a bit of a shock because japan is flipping nuts. Get ready for 5minute transformation scenes, giant robots that only an inept kid can pilot, and little girls who look 12 but are treated like they're 18.

They're like the B horror movies of the JRPG genre.

I am ok with Anime Tropes, I love anime. This game however, despite the familiar tropes, was written very poorly. I dont mind long action sequences with wavey lines. I dont mind awkward conversations filled with bad puns. I dont mind children being awesome pilots.

What I do mind is terrible writing that makes me want to vomit because it just keeps droning on and on and on about NOTHING, very poorly.

Who gives a damn if he didn't know who the developer was? He still doesn't like the game and gave very clear, precise reasons why. I LOVE japanese games, but don't be a freak about it. The dude gave good reasons as to why he thinks it isn't good.

I'm not saying I agree with him, as I have not played it. But it's his opinion, and it's a well-thought-out one with detailed explanations for WHY. YOU on the other hand are unable to refute any of the things he dislikes. All you can do is call him an idiot and then claim that he should have prepaired himself because it was an "Otaku-RPG". I don't care if it was diaper changing rpg, if a game sucks, it sucks (according to his opinion).

I already reviewed the game. I'm not going to copy/ paste it here. Suffice to say I actually understand what the otaku-JRPG genre is about and I don't expect the genre to be comparable to Ni No Kuni, any more than I expected The Witcher 2 to compare to mainstream JRPGs. The otaku-JRPG genre is entirely different, and made for an entirely different group of people.

And if you can't even Google search to find out who the developer is, then you're in no position to comment on the game. Knowing who made something, and then understanding their approach to game design is a fundamental necessity to understand, and therefore review, a game.

Gamers are constantly complaining about the state of games journalism, and yet they're more than happy to turn a blind eye the moment shoddy games journalism suits them. Not knowing who made the game is shoddy games journalism. If I was to claim EA made the next Call of Duty game I would rightfully be considered a moron.

I never once actually say "THIS GAME WAS DEVELOPED BY NIS AND ONLY NIS." I simply said a NIS game, which is correct, as they published it. It's like saying Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap is a Nintendo game. IT IS A NINTENDO GAME. I also understand Capcom developed it. But If i say Minish cap is a Nintendo game, people know exactly what i am talking about, and I am right.
