Generation differences at first glance.

With the announcement of the Ps4 and XBox 720 later down the line, I started wondering if the next generation of consoles are going to be that much better. What does the future hold for these consoles and what are they seeking to achieve within their generation? What will be so different about them in comparison to what we have now?

Taking a step back and looking at the current generation, there were some major changes compared to the generation before it. Such as graphical upgrades, online networks, and downloadable content. The online advancements opened up a new gateway of connecting with the world and giving us the ability to play games with anyone, anywhere. We can also access extra content through DLC. Achievements and Trophies that show what you accomplished in your games. The ability to access streaming media with applications. Last but not least (depending on how you look at it) motion sensing technology. Not only did it give us the ability to interact with games in a physical way, but also created a new audience for gaming as well.

Probably wasn't everything but, that was kinda the current console generation in a nutshell.

The information given to us by Sony about the Ps4 seems to streamline everything that this generation has done. Everything is going to be improved and downloading will be instantaneous. The additions on the Ps4 controller were interesting and could integrate well into adding something new into the mix of the game play. The share button is probably the most interesting addition. How often will people use the share button is a question that time will only tell. The games look impressive for works in progress and I hope to see more as the year progresses.

As of right now, I'm not too impressed, but that doesn't mean I won't be. As more information is released, hopefully the differences between generations will be more prominent. Until then, slightly above average Gamers such as myself, will be enjoying this gen for a little while longer.

"Instantaneous downloading"

I don't think you understand how the internet works.

I understand how the internet works. Nanomachines, son! [jk]

Yeah, I botched that part. I meant game play will be instantaneous while downloading. From what they said about the Ps4 "play the game when the first bit of information is downloaded" during the conference.

I'm not exactly sure how that's possible (nanomachines?), but I like the sound of it.

It's just streaming. Similar to how services like Onlive work. It will be applied to something like this however.

If you've played the first Infamous game from disk it starts with a 2 GB install and about 20-30% in you can start playing.

Conceptually, its the same thing, just with a download and install.

Let's just say the average persons internet has some catching up to do.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I'm not 100% savvy on how all the new tech works, but that's one new aspect I like. I just hope it all operates smoothly.

Sky Climb Review - Duuro

Duuro says: "I think the idea behind the movement is cool, but on the other hand, the execution and clear limitation of the platform somewhat undermine the whole thing."
