Konami offers new clarification on Ground Zeroes, Phantom Pain and MGS5

But it sounds like these aren't on the same disc if they're being distributed differently. He did say that GZ is a prologue to MGS5, and MGS5 starts in the hospital 9 years after GZ... Prologues come first, so maybe he really is selling them as separate games. That would probably piss a lot of people off.

Adding to what porkChop said, maybe it could be like MGS2 where you open as Snake, and move over to Raiden. It is on the same disc, but feels very different. Either way, 1 or 2 discs... I'm in.

It's gonna be like MGS2 and MGS3.

In MGS2 you started off with a first, short chapter, and after the events of what happened in this chapter the story progresses and the real game in the real, full location begins. The same thing happened in MGS3. You started off in what was called the Virtuous Mission and after that ended the timeline advanced a bit and then the full game really began. Basically it just means the former are preludes, while the latter are the real game.

So it will be like Dead Rising 2 where they sell you the prequel or w/e leading up to it as a digital download and then they sell you the rest of the game (which is most of it) that tells you the rest.

Well its clear the prologue ground zeroes and continuation phantom pain. But the real confusing thing would be, will it be sold separately?? If it does, This will not sit well with all gamers. I mean why would I buy a game with two separate parts? It should only be 1 game and 1 disc. so they will be selling ground zeroes at $60? and another $60 for phantom pain? I hope not and Kojima should know better

Unless its like lord of the rings...if both games are 15-20 hours I am totally OK with buying both sperately. Konami is one of the few devs I always buy new. Same for Insomniac, Naughty Dog, Media Molecule. I always pay retail and all dlc to support them. All other games (Bethesda, epic) I buy used.

So they will release Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain separately, even if they belong to the same story, just like Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising 2: Case Zero.

ground zeros is a prologue to MGSV so i guess ill be needing both of them.. I hope its not all about the multiplayer though.. I love the campaigns too

This is just getting somewhat confusing, I am just gonna let it all play out and figure it out later. In my opinion though it seems hes pulling the same thing he did on MGS 2 as with the Tanker and Plant but of course both parts are a lot bigger now. So he could probably make both of these stories I guess make out to be two completely separate games but only in time we will find out.

At first my attitude was not in favor of the sub games being distributed at different times, but thinking about it I think it is a great idea. Kojima knows he is competing with the West and feels the need that Japan needs to catch up; so I liken this to how movie trilogies have been recently made. Save the first Matrix movie, you have the last two releasing fairly close together. Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit the same way. I think this is great bc we know that the next part of the story, Phantom Pain, will not be a long wait after Ground Zeroes. They both must be fairly large, and Kojima said Phantom Pain is large and larger than Ground Zeroes. Man I cannot wait. Check out the interview if you haven't already - Link below
