Battlefield 4 Wii U Would Be Less Risky than Next-Gen

NintendoDude analyzes the reasons why bringing Battlefield 4 and other multiplatform games to Wii U is less risky than investing in other "next gen" consoles.

It's because the fan base for BF4 type games doesn't exist on Wii-U

SonyNGP4040d ago

That doesn't prevent it from existing though.

ABizzel14040d ago

"The Wii U is in many ways more powerful than the current Xbox 360 and PS3,"

Lies. The Wii-U is anywhere from 50% - 1.5x more powerful than the PS360. 2x at most in prime condition for the Wii-U (updates that cut the OS footprint on RAM, and other updates that could improve CPU speeds etc...).

"as has already been proven by several high profile ports. Battlefield 4 is coming to Xbox 360 and PS3."

PS360 have 70+ million users, Wii U hasn't broke 10 million. Battlefield 3 has already proven it's success on the PS360, look at Call of Duty for the Wii U. Why would EA risk not getting a profit on a Wii U port when the best selling game of this generation failed to push past 1,000,000 sold on the Wii U.

The majority of Nintendo fans don't buy 3rd party games, and soon Nintendo will be stuck with having less and less 3rd party support, unless they get lucky and get a PS360 port. Zombi U is still the best selling 3rd party Wii U game and it still hasn't reached 500k in sales.

"f the Wii U is unproven, however, then what does that bode for Microsoft and Sony’s next-gen offerings?"

True, but their predecessors proved that their core audience will support this kind of game. The Wii didn't do anything for core third party games, and the Wii-U has had 4 month to fix that and it's failed thus far.

At the end of the day this is the entertainment business, and if the market isn't there it's not going to happen. Call of Duty Wii U failed, and so many of those big FPS games are going to pass on the Wii U and Nintendo, because the audience just isn't there.

aceitman4040d ago (Edited 4040d ago )

the wii u has only 2,740,662 http://www.vgchartz.com/wee... how many do u think will buy battlefield 4 , and for them to sell 160,000 copies of black ops 2 for wii u as of feb 27th with only 1,000 people online I doubt b4 will sell well on it. http://www.digitaltrends.co...

stragomccloud4039d ago

@ABizzel1
I don't even know where to start with how misinformed you are about the Wii Us power.
So I won't. I really don't want to type a really long post about the architecture.
So, I'll just say, no. No. Just no.

_LarZen_4040d ago

Aye, just look at Black Ops 2. There is almost no people playing online.

Most people buy a Wii U for the Nintendo games.

gedden74040d ago

Talk and Marketing for COD was mostly for Xbxox and PS3, not to mention the 4-6 yrs of gamers playing CoD on those consoles. IF BO2 would have done those numbers on Wii U from the start... THAT would be UNPRECEDENTED!

Yodagamer4040d ago

Plus i really doubt anybody knows black ops is on the wii u due to activision dropping it with no ads saying, "hey it's on the wii u"

Dj7FairyTail4040d ago

I wonder why OH THAT RIGHT
MONSTER HUNTER TRI ULTIMATE CAME OUT

gamefiles4040d ago

yeah, not for the exclusives

1upgamer994040d ago (Edited 4040d ago )

I play BOPS 2 online, and have no problem finding people. There are not as many people as PS3 had (I used to play BOPS2 on that, but really like the gamepad) I think that some of you think 720/PS4 are going to have 20 million units out in a few months, and that is just not going to happen. It did not happen in the past and its not going to happen this next time around.

partially true... but I would be willing to bet that most Wii U owners have either a PS3 or 360 as well. The reason why they wouldn't buy it on the Wii U is because they would prefer the larger multiplayer base on the established systems. Thus they opt out of purchasing it for the Wii U and get it for the PS3 or 360 instead.

Of course this method of thinking will never help out the Wii U. People have to be willing to buy it on that console first and foremost, in order to help the sales of multiplat games.

delboy4040d ago

But if it runs better on wiiu I would skip it on ps3.

TruthbeTold4040d ago

delboy, I think playing the game where your friends are playing it is just as important, if not more important than the game running better. You just aren't going to see too many multiplatform games with PS360 yet that have large online gaming populations.

jacksheen00004040d ago

@NYC_Gamer

True,
But Having BF4 on the wii U would've help Nintendo win back some core gamers.

n4f4040d ago

i think its more for project origin. people should search for project origin

this guy sums a lot of thing and im starting to think ea is fed up

herbs4040d ago (Edited 4040d ago )

Too bad, I personally think the Wii U would be great for first person shooters. It's nice having several control options and I really would like to play a quality FPS using the wiimote. (I find aiming manually more interactive) I guess I'm in the minority though sadly.
-_-

N4g_null4040d ago

Most people with a wiiu already have an older system.

What is funny is what are they going to do when the other next gen come out and they sell just as slow due to pricing.

It really is a self fulfilling situation. Maybe Nintendo needs to just bring out their own halo or cod? Advance wars fps would be sweet though rts meets fps on the ground al la quake wars.

Starfox-174039d ago

Less risky than other did u read it other nextgen consoles.

Enemy4040d ago (Edited 4040d ago )

If this a serious article? Hardcore games never sell better on Nintendo platforms. End of discussion.

lilbroRx4040d ago

Exept for No More Heroes 1 and 2, Resident Evil Umbrella/Darkside Chronicles, House of the Dead Overkill, etc

PopRocks3594040d ago

To be fair, those are rare exceptions. Nintendo doesn't have Microsoft's luxury of being able to outright rely on third part support. However, that doesn't mean 3rd party games are never successful on their products. The ones you listed are good examples, as are Resident Evil and Kingdom Hearts on the 3DS.

InTheLab4040d ago

Gonna need to see some links. I'm pretty sure all of those sold under 500k...which should explain why 2 of them are multiplats.

Red Steel, Extraction, Conduit, Madworld...all bombed on Wii and were under $20 shortly after launch, and I should know because I bought them all for under $20 new.

AZWification24040d ago (Edited 4040d ago )

InTheLab, Resident Evil Umbrella sold 1.4 million copies. Also, MadWorld sold 0.7 million, Red Steel sold 0.6 million, The Conduit sold a bit over 0.5 million, etc....

lilbroRx4040d ago (Edited 4040d ago )

@In the lab First off, the reason I used those games was because they were also on the PS3/360 and they sold more on the Wii than on those console.

Second. No More Heroes was Suda 51's best selling game on a single console ever till this day. Suda 51 had a party to celebrate it because it was such a huge success. How is that bombing?

Third. Wii development cost was a fraction of what it was for the 360/PS3. The average cost of developing a major Wii game was from 3-10 mil. The average cost of developing a major PS3/360 game was from 15-30 mil. Anything that sold over 200-300k on the Wii made a profit. 500k+ was gold on the Wii. Most major PS3/360 games need to be a million seller just to break even. That's why so many studios and companies went bankrupt developing for them.

Fourth. Of the 140 mil+ sellers the Wii had, only about 25 were Nintendo IPs. Every Call of Duty on the Wii except MW3 was a million+ seller. It was released after the Wii U announcement so the Wii on its downturn. MW3 sold 600k so it still made a quite a bit of profit.

dungeonboss4040d ago

@_-EDMIX-_ True, RE6 sold almost 6 million copies. It was also considered a failure and Capcom LOST money, even with over 5 million copies sold. Makes me wonder how anyone is going to afford development on PS4 and 720.

Starfox-174039d ago (Edited 4039d ago )

Nintendo consoles incuding handhelds on lots of occasions outsell sony and microsoft on 3rd party games its just the publishers dont let u know, for instance Sonic racing on WiiU sold around 300,000 that's more than ps3 and 360 combined now the wiiu has 3/4 million consoles worldwide and ps3 and 360 have around a 140 million yet wiiu out sold both consoles on this game which speaks volumes for Nintendo's wiiu going forward, games are selling less and less on ps3 and 360 FACT get over it.

140 million consoles yet only 210,000 units sold is about 0.3 on both consoles is poor.

3/4 million consoles and around 300,000 units sold is about 8% which is quite amazing.

Yeah 3rd party games dont sell on Nintendo consoles yeah right.

Dj7FairyTail4040d ago

That funny considering
Nintendo have hardcore games.

Sony games don't sell.

nintendoland4040d ago

there is no such thing as hardcore game. There are just hardcore gamers.

gedden74040d ago

I would BUY BF4 for Wii U in a HEART BEAT and the next CoD (if fixed) for xbox or their next gen consoles...

imXify4040d ago

I would freaking love BF4 for WiiU....playing with wiimote =(

just-joe4040d ago

What can you say, the gaming industry is a.....*puts glasses on* Battlefield.

Then again EA is a ..... Bad Company.

Battlefield 1, Hardline, BF4 Servers Are Being Taken Offline by Cheaters; EA Silent on Issue

Cheaters & hackers have been causing grief on Battlefield 1, Hardline & BF4 servers, with nonstop DDoS attacks among other things. Unfortunately, EA has remained silent about it.

-Foxtrot752d ago

Course they are silent, they are hoping people flock to 2042

gamesftw250751d ago

Maybe it was a inside job then haha.

jeromeface750d ago

wouldnt be the first time, titanfall 1+2 anyone?

PapaBop751d ago

Not even if they paid me.. EA always do this with old games with less money potential, if this was Ultimate Team, they'd address and sort it faster than stories could spread. Why invest time in their products when they will just dump it in the following years? Then again EA never could see the forest for the trees.

Inverno751d ago

I imagine after those games were given out for free a couple months back through Amazon, anything that makes people go to 2042 is a plus for them

XiNatsuDragnel752d ago

They want people to go on 2042. My theory

excaliburps751d ago

Nah. I think they can't do anything about it or they want to sink money into fixing it.

Pudge102888751d ago (Edited 751d ago )

EA owns all BF servers so yes, they can do something about it but they refuse to because they dont want ppl playing their old games instead of the new one. Its EA we’re talking about here

pr33k33751d ago

if this happened in 2042, they'd have something to say. which is weird, considering battlefield 1 has more players on steam right now.

Pudge102888751d ago

Its so obvious that EA is doing this or hired ppl to mess up the games so that we’d be forced to have just 1 Battlefield working.

FPS_D3TH751d ago

Honestly it’s probably the devs themselves. They did an update to bf4 way back that kinda made assault rifles doo doo in hopes that people would flock to BF1 cuz BF4 was too perfect

There's a bunch of great shooters on gamepass; both legacy and new.

A recommendation I have is a work in progress preview title called Anacrusis. It's a lot of fun, and has a cool aesthetic.

5 Games That Started Out As A Buggy Mess

KeenGamer: "Sometimes a game starts out as a buggy mess and we all just stop and think, “that definitely could have spent a bit more time in the oven”. This is the case for these 5 games which infamously marked their place in recent game memory."
