'Tomb Raider' selling single-player upgrades

Tomb Raider may not be getting any substantial single-player DLC, but that doesn't mean that Square Enix isn't allowed to sell players campaign-exclusive upgrades for a nominal fee.

Not needed, it comes early enough in the game.

I guess as long as people keep buying early unlocks DEVS will keep coming up with new and creative ways to try and take our money.

ApolloTheBoss4041d ago (Edited 4041d ago )

Don't blame the devs it's the publishers that push this crap. This is all just because Tomb Raider didn't live up to Square's ridiculously high expectations of it selling five to ten million to break even with its $100m budget, and now they're trying to make up for it with these "exclusives". Do they seriously think that that was gonna happen in less than a month? They should just be patient and accept what they already have. This what's wrong with gaming industry today.

Excalibur4041d ago (Edited 4041d ago )

My thoughts on whats is wrong with the gaming industry is two fold.

1. They see millions of people playing these free Facebook games or cheap Phone App games and want that market, they think by dumbing down their games they are just going to get those folks to buy their products.

The thing is those people just want a few minutes of mindless distractions, (please don't take that as an isult if you play those games that is not how it was intended) they want something to do for a few minutes while taking the bus or waiting in line or whatever.

Because those folks play those FREE/CHEAP games does not mean they are going to run right out a drop $400.00 on a console, $60.00 a pop for your game then another $20-$50 on your various DLC.

2. COD has some sort of weird magic that draws a great number of people to it like moths to a flame, stop trying to make your game like Call of Duty, stop adding un-needed Multiplayer to your games to try and copy COD.

People like COD and only want to play COD, not some poor COD imitation.

WAKE UP DEVS, come up with something new, creative and price it $49.99, stop making over priced clones.

Its a great idea and anyone who is suckered into buying these deserves to be out the money. They r easy to get and its part of the fun. Oh well.

aquamala4041d ago

I would buy any single player story DLC, but guess that's not happening.

maddfoxx4041d ago

This is just for people who don't want to work for anything. I have a friend that always buys DLC upgrades and then complains because he thinks the game is too easy. . .

asad1974041d ago

I did my part to help them out. I pre ordered the game and won't be trading it in.

FAT MAN GO BOOM4041d ago

This is just the tip of Micro transactions...

Today you can earn these items in the game... tomorrows games.. you will not...

once people stop complaining about micro transactions the will move inwards on the games and have exclusive items...

It sickens me...

Don't be idiots and buy these things... DLC that more like Expansion packs is one thing... this... is micro transaction and is nothing but greed...

TitanUp4041d ago

totally agree, gamers shouldn't buy stupid crap.

ziggurcat4041d ago

"Today you can earn these items in the game... tomorrows games.. you will not..."

unless every single game in the future becomes free-to-play, that's simply not going to happen.

if idiots want to waste their money on items they can get in game already, let them. these micro-transactions have absolutely zero effect on the game, whatsoever, so who gives a flying **** if they exist. just ignore it, and enjoy the game.

mydyingparadiselost4041d ago

I ignored DLC and it's all over the place now. DRM is ignored by LOTS of gamers and look at the *bright* future it's bringing. Ignoring works on things that are aggravating, not bad business practice. Bad business has to be talked about and stopped before it becomes common practice and leads to further bad business.

The Best Tomb Raider Games Ranked

We've gone on many adventures with Lara Croft. With another reboot in the making, Wealth of Geeks felt it was a good time to go down the nostalgia rabbit hole and remember the best of those tomb-raiding thrills.

I do agree that Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness was the worse one 😂 I remember playing some of it and I took it back. That game was just awful in every way. I bought it used at gamestop and glad they had that 7 day return policy for used games 😂

Pyrofire9554d ago

Would it be worth saying why?

ZeekQuattro54d ago

Simple. He's been hating on the Tomb Raider reboots for years. I can't imagine seeing them at the top of a best TR game list let alone being on the list in general sitting well with him because of it.

-Foxtrot54d ago

Zeek

“Hating”

No no, just pointing out how TR mutated into a generic action adventure game losing the appeal of what it once was when it was more about puzzles and platforming over going Rambo, slaughtering waves of enemies

But hey, continue being a dick and speaking about me like I’m not going to see the comment.

MeatyUrologist54d ago

Foxtrot, I'm curious if you have played the most recent games. Sure the 2013 reboot was hugely focused on combat, but each follow up became less and less about combat to the point where outside of a few large scale story missions I don't even remember combat being a part of shadow of the tomb raider. Shadow was so puzzle focused it actually was a bit much for me and I love the TR puzzles.

I still feel like Rise was the best of the series and I was a huge fan of the originals. To me it struck the perfect balance of exploration, platforming, puzzles, and combat. Not saying your opinion is wrong I'm just curious what you think they should have done different. Games do need to evolve somewhat to stay relevant. Would you prefer small linear jumping platform levels like the original?

RavenWolfx54d ago

I would agree Rise for 1 and the reboot as 2. Shadow is a bit high, though.

Sonic188154d ago (Edited 54d ago )

I think Shadow wasn't even develop by crystal dynamics. I thought it was the worse in the new trilogy

Pyrofire9554d ago

That's right. Shadow was developed by Eidos Montreal who who went and made Marvels Guardians of the Galaxy next. (Great game)
Meanwhile after Rise of the Tomb Raider, Crystal Dynamics made Marvels Avengers. (bad game)

MeatyUrologist54d ago

Agrees. First two are correct but Shadow should be around 5-6.

terstomp54d ago

For me, Legend should be alot higher (along with the other two ). Shadow, I enjoyed it, but has too much has fluff, as modern games tend to do. Playing the remastered series, and apart from the controls, is very good.

jznrpg54d ago

I really enjoyed the first 2 games, Legend and the first of the reboots and the rest I didn’t get into so I never finished.

robtion54d ago

Completely subjective list. I really liked Underworld, I preferred Lara's design. That said I loved the horror/uncharted feel of the reboot. I think all the TR games have strengths and weaknesses. None are objectively better in every way.
