It's a shame that we all clamor for new IP's and innovation, but then every time something is teased we get pissed that it isn't a sequel. I don't think I've ever once seen someone say, "I hope it's some new IP".

Anyhow, I'm now disappointed because it's some Soccer game, which doesn't hold much interest for me.

Sega has revealed the identity of its new UK-based studio.

According to a recruitment call spotted on GamesIndustry.biz by a NeoGAF poster, Hardlight is a new "boutique game development studio" based in the West Midlands.

Its focus is "creating high quality, innovative game experiences for both current and future platforms."

Its first confirmed project is a "unique action adventure" exclusive to Vita, due out in late 2012.

The studio apparently combines "talent from a variety of game genres and backgrounds" and is "working closely with Sega R&D Studio to stay at the cutting edge of developments in technology, middleware and game experiences."

It seems likely that Hardlight is the mysterious new studio mentioned by Sega exec Gary Dunn in June last year, formed from the ashes of the now defunct Sega Racing team.

Great to hear some positive UK industry news following last week's report that more than 40 per cent of British developers made redundant in the last three years have taken their talents overseas.

This is for Japan audiences. I'm sure this news is huge over there for them just like a new cod and ac is big news here to alot of ppl. And being exclusive to Sony platforms, will also help sell alot of vitas since it just got a price drop two weeks ago.

Thats disappointing news IMO. I wanted a new JRPG of some sort or even better a VC title. And this teaser is starting to make sense now, football being formed, huge field of grass. Im hoping its wrong though, please be something not football related XC

It's not a soccer game.

1) Nobody in their right mind would release a soccer/football game with FIFA and Pro Evo on the market.
2) Why create a website in anticipation for such a game? Unless it's an over-the-top, NFL Blitz-style game, I don't see there being any sort of fan base for it.
3) Too many other SEGA series' that would be wise choices, financially...especially with a new generation coming up.

Sure we do. In fact I think people of all systems do. But whenever a teaser announcement comes out, it's always "I hope it's X game", "I hope it's Y game", with X and Y being sequels to an existing franchise. In fact for this very teaser, all I saw was "I hope it's VC, Yakuza, or SoD".

I mean I'm sure there are people that would like it to a new IP, but most vocal people are talking sequel. I guess it is hard to discuss a game you don't know about though, particularly when teaser announcements tend to be pretty vague.

When it finally is revealed as a new IP, people get disappointed, then things turn around and we hype up the new IP like good little fan boys.:)

I can't say I am disappointed in something I have never seen or played before but I will just say it definitely was not what I expected after trying to figure out what it was.

What is weird is instinctively I told myself the first time I saw this teaser it was a soccer game due to the grass, but it made more sense that it wouldn't be so I refused to even bring it up. Funny how that turned out.

...but yea this won't come over seas that is for sure, so Japan can have it.

A little research BEFORE commenting led me to the official site of the series. And from what I can tell, here are a few interesting (maybe?) facts.

1) This will only be released in Japan.

2) Unlike other football / soccer games, the reason this will be successful in Japan is that it focuses on J-league football.

3) What sets it apart is that it is a game where you create your own team with in the J-league and get to take them from the bottom ranks, all the way to the top pro leagues. EVERYTHING can be customised, from managing contracts for players and stadiums, scouting for new talent, you can give every player their own play style and train each style to be used at a moment's notice in games, responding to media criticism etc. And while I don't like football too much, I can see how this series would be popular in Japan for sure. It's just that the media blew it out of proportion.

4) Sega Japan are making a bit of a fuss about it, because it is the first game in the series to be released on this generation. Indeed, going to the official site (linked below) you can see how Sega said "Sod it, let's just follow the trend in this country and make it for mobile platforms" (if I'm not mistaken, handhelds like the PSP and DS really took off in Japan, which coincidentally are the platforms the most recent games released on)

Well with the World Cup coming up next year and Soccer being the biggest sport in the world it in understandable.

Plus as there is only FIFA and PES that focus on mainstream soccer then there is room for competition - how many FPS' do we get each year by comparison?

What is wrong with publishers these days? They keep throwing out countdowns and teasers for games that don't really warrant such hype. Fuck these teaser sites, I'm not giving them any attention anymore. Almost every time we get burned with some shitty browser game. I can't remember the last time a countdown/teaser site was used for a good, hype-worthy game.
