Five Things Zelda Wii U Should Borrow From The Wind Waker

GenGAME writes: Today marks the 10th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker’s release on Nintendo GameCube in the U.S.

The Wind Waker is one of those rare games that manages to carve out its own distinct path, and yet does so brilliantly. While many were initially put off by its art style, over time it's come to grow on people, and unlike many of the "grittier" games of its day it's actually aged as gracefully as fine wine.

Wind waker was the worst legend of zelda game ever!! Made link look like a 7 year old girl.

Orionsangel4043d ago

He didn't exactly look like a man in the original Zelda game itself. Who cares if he's a boy or man as long as the game is fun.

Thirty3Three4043d ago

What Orian said.

Also, BusyToad, you realize that link is only 10 years old (as a child) and 17 (as an adult) in OoT, right? He's still a kid there.

The game blew, and the cel shading graphics do not belong in zelda games period. i grew on link back in the 80's,not only is wind waker a piss poor game but it seems nintendo made it for kiddies.

Another reason i refuse to buy a nintendo console, they make their exlusive's all kiddie lookin, its sad lol. Last good nintendo console was N64 nuff said.

"Another reason i refuse to buy a nintendo console, they make their exlusive's all kiddie lookin"

But you just said cel shading doesn't belong in a zelda game( depicting the child friendly look)?
I'm just confused about your confusion. Make up your mind.

"nuff said"
Ah dang it. I was hoping for more nonsense.

Ah no Wind Waker was one of the best Zelda games ever made. It was amazing to be on the open ocean. It's pirate theme was fresh and new. The choice to go with cel shading was perfect. Young link always looks like a little girl.

I actually did not enjoy twilight and skyward that much.

@busytoad
The game was excellent and all the other Zelda games before twilight have been kiddi. Actually the worst Zelda game made was Zelda 2 Adventures of Link. The last boss was dark link which a shadow of you.

OhMyGandhi4043d ago

weird. I absolutely adored the game, especially it's art style.

kirbyu4042d ago

You're saying it's worse than the CD-i games? And no one else has brought that up?

Wind Waker was almost as revolutionary for the series as the transition was from 2D to 3D... or the transition from OoT to Majora's Mask... Imagine how boring it would get if games never tried anything new.

Honestly I really changed my mind on Fi with the remaster because they didn't make her interrupt your gameplay every 5 seconds, that drastically changed my views on her

Inverno72d ago

Technically she's in ToTK but obviously can't take any other form than the sword she was made into. Also the companion feature has been done plenty of times in Zelda, I don't think it'll add anything new. If anything should be brought back it should be the Minish.

Directionless Modern Zelda Should Return to its 3D Roots

Matt from We Game Daily writes "The Legend of Zelda series has gone in a different direction. One which, try as I have, I just can’t get on board with. Here is why I think Zelda should return to its 3D roots."

Amen! A good, tight, Zelda game with a focus on dungeons and puzzles. Let people have the new style Zelda if you gotta, but let us have the OoT style games too. That's not without precedent either, the handheld 2D Zelda's in the style of A Link to the Past etc have coexisted alongside the 3D Zelda's before

FinalFantasyFanatic103d ago

As much as I like BoTW, TotK, I need my traditional Zelda games as well, I could not endlessly play the open world Zelda games, plus it's harder to keep those fresher than the traditional games.

Eidolon103d ago (Edited 103d ago )

BotW was just as fresh to the franchise as OoT was. TokT was great but the next LoZ would have to move from that formula to be fresh again. There's only so much they can do with the hardware. I think they focused too much on making the world big instead impactful. I felt the world was sort of empty and repetitive in TotK, sure there was a lot to do but no more difference a Ubisoft game..

anast103d ago

I wouldn't worry too much. Nintendo knows what they are doing.

Ristul103d ago

Wind Waker had a perfect balance of open world and a cool, well hand-crafted design. Maybe try to keep the open world but put in effort to make more memorable story driven quests and locations.

I like it would also be cool if some created Dragon Caesar in the game I would love to watch the two going at it.
