Predicting The Future Of The PlayStation 4

Game Informer - Sony's reveal of the PlayStation 4 excited the industry with its visions of next-gen games, the ability to play legacy PlayStation titles, the power of cloud gaming, and more. But will we see all of these features as stated, or are they just empty promises?

Here are a list of some of the PlayStation 4's features as we currently know them, and given the info at hand, I assess how likely it is we'll see them come to fruition as planned.

The future seems very bright for Sony and the PS4

StrongMan4043d ago (Edited 4043d ago )

Agreed. I predict another console gen domination and Sony's 3rd console gen win. Looks like Sony will have the hardcore all to themselves.

@EDIT

Yes, 90% of the games will be the same but the PS4 is easy to develop for so those 90% of games will be identical and one console will allow you to play online for free and one console have already reassured what we know in that they will not lose focus on core gaming and they will deliver on core exclusives. Nothing wrong with expanding console features but when it's at the expense of the core gamers then it's a problem. Both Sony and MS introduced casual gaming options but Sony didn't put all their eggs in that basket and forgot about the core. Sony is STILL delivering new IPs like The Last of Us and Beyond: Two Souls. When was the last MS funded core new IP? Alan Wake back in 2010? It's 2013. But look at all of the new casual Kinect new IPs like Disneyland Kinect, Sesame Street Kinect, Disney Pixar Kinect game, and many others. Go to any site and any forum and you will see displeased and concerned Xbox owners. I know you think EVERYONE who owns an Xbox is 100% happy with it and those who are not are PS3 fanboys who don't own an Xbox but that couldn't be further from the truth. I know you are MS's greatest defender across the entire internet but there are just some things even you can't defend. It just makes you look foolish for trying. Yet you call other fanboys, lol.

Jek_Porkins4043d ago

Didn't Sony break out the Move at their event? I think I saw a glowing controller, mention of a Kinect like camera, and a social network for a "share" button......

I think you are kidding yourself if you think any one company will dominate, we are probably past that stage of consoles and gaming, especially since the next Xbox and PlayStation will both offer 90+% of the same games!

So that begs the question, if 90+% of the games are the exact same, who's abandoning what now?

Jek_Porkins4043d ago

Once again you weren't banned forever, but I'll continue to send in those reports and screen shots of you trolling!

So we are agreed 90+% of the games will be the same, which means 90+% are going to be core games yes?

Also, we haven't heard any details on Sony's online pricing, it might not be free, you don't really know, but I suspect Xbox Live Gold isn't holding back gamer's who game as a hobby.

So you blame Microsoft for having a successful casual device, where as Sony's was almost a direct copy of the Wii mote and flopped? The games you listed weren't developed by Microsoft first party studios, and I was too busy playing things like Forza, Gears, Witcher 2 and Halo to notice.

Imagine a gamer who enjoys a bit of everything, they'd probably be pretty happy with their Xbox 360, you don't have one, remember the fact Gamertag you gave me that doesn't exist? Ya, go sniff Kaz's underwear some more kiddo.

Strongman is a disgruntled gamer. :(

Jek, you call him a troll when you do the exact same thing.

Personally, I think the future is very bright for the PS4. Sony's playing the right cards.

The future is bright for PS4 but that was a nonsensical article.

Everytime there is a new PlayStation to be launched Sony rocks the gaming industry.
PSOne PS2 PSP PS3 PSV PS4 wow!

Software_Lover4043d ago

I dont see any negatives at this point. Of course we will not know the full intent of Sony (and Microsoft) until the consoles are released.

I know its a pipe dream, but I just want console games to support other formats, ala 16:10 and 21:9.

But I will be purchasing the ps4 and I wish it the best.

What, I thought this was dead after Shawn Layden left Sony. I would definitely pick this up if it's true. I have such great memories of playing the MediEvil games on PS1 and I played the PS4 remake. Such a great and underrated series.

A rumored game at a rumored show.. we’ve seen it all

TiredGamer1h ago

Agreed. The first remake was stylistically beautiful and a very noticeable improvement over the original in every regard. And it was reasonably priced and sustainably developed (i.e. not some mega big budget game that was do or die for the developer).

Zeke683h ago

Thanks for the spoilers... :(

RonnySins3h ago

Another day, another remake. Ugh!

SonyStyled2h ago

If you played the original print I can see your annoyance. I didn’t and probably a lot others the past 20 years.

Was it any good? Would you suggest playing the original print of 2, or suggest the remake? Just wondering because I didn’t play the originals as I had an n64 at the time

TiredGamer1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

I played the first remake and absolutely loved it. The quality of life and control improvements were very noticeable. I tried playing the PS1 original and gave up halfway through at the janky controls.

Expect the same for part 2. The PS1 version is janky as heck, but I would gobble up an improved remake day one.

The beauty of this kind of stuff is that I find myself enjoying more retro gaming today, so a relatively low budget classic remake (call it a single-A release) is exactly what is missing from first party releases in the modern age. I don’t want every game to be an unsustainable AAAA endeavor that is just overwhelming in every regard. Truly miss when game releases could be modest-sized surprises and still be commercially successful/viable.

Bring on more quality classic remakes!

Knightofelemia3h ago

Such a good series I also wish Sony would dust off Wild Arms and Legend of Dargoon even the Legend series needs to see the light again.

Omegasyde2h ago

My bets on new Socom and/or Wolverine (since Deadpool 3 is dropping in the summer).

I think one after this state of play will be PS5 pro preorder
