Borderlands 2 SHiFT Codes give fans golden keys on the first day of PAX East

New SHifT Codes, which are good for a single redemption for a golden key inside “Borderlands 2” were released today. The codes were given out on the first day of PAX East and will be valid all weekend long. Players have through Sunday to redeem the new SHiFT Codes into the main menu of the game.

Anyone else disappointed that shift is nothing (more or less) but a golden key service?

Just came here to say the same thing, I wish they would of had skins or something cool to give away, it's just been gold keys, which the items can be less than fantastic most the time anyway.

Well they DID give away at least 1 (can't think of another) skin for Halloween, so they did have that. However, I believe the skin was obtainable via normal means, plus could be freely given away if you missed out. Sort of takes the charm away from the item, like how the CE DLC could be dropped.

They gave St. Patricks day skins also. But yes, I wish they would do something more creative with it. In a sense, the chest kind of ruins the balance of the loot in the game. Anything you get in the chest is far better than just about anything you find in game... it makes no sense to me that just because I punched in a code, I should get a weapon that's 10x better than the rifle I spent hours finding.

As far as the loot chest stuff, I feel the opposite. The chests can offer you some solid gear and in some cases (especially early on) give you a long lasting gun, but it can't match gear you MUST farm for. If anything destroys the balance of the game, it's the ability to duplicate anything you own, so even without these chests, people can give you an even better gun by default. This was a HUGE problem in the original (especially with people hacking it). Clearly Gearbox isn't very concerned with balance, since some things have absurdly bad odds (heads / skins, motivating people to take the easy way out) and they could easily fix the duping by "locking" legendary items in the inventory (like the vault hunter relic) and off setting this by making the gun appear on every screen / be picked up no more than 4 times or go in everyones inventory like cash (remember you can have over inventory if you get an item via a quest, so storage wouldn't be an issue). Though I doubt it will ever get better or really that they even care.

I don't even bother with the Shift codes anymore. I've got probably 30 keys now and nothing to do with them since I'm stuck at level 50 and already have better weapons than you can get from the chest. It's so pointless.
