"If you’ve been with us for awhile, then you know that we love trophies and achievements. Hoarding aside, they are fun little incentives to spend some extra time with the games that we enjoy (and some that we don’t), or at least… they are supposed to be. All too often, game developers entirely miss the point. Some of them feel that trophies and achievements are simply an opportunity to fuck with their fans.
Sure, we call them “achievements” for a reason and you don’t usually get trophies for trivial things like blowing your nose (unless you’re really fucking amazing at it) but video games are supposed to provide fun experiences. In no way should “challenging” mean “torturous” or especially “mind-numbingly dull” when it comes to gaming. Yet, it often does so we feel like we need to help developers out with a few pointers:"
Digital Foundry : In a new Retro PC Time Capsule video, John and Alex go back to cross-gen gaming, 2006-style, with Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. Join us for a look back at a time where Xbox 360 out-performed mainstream PCs by a long chalk, resulting in some games receiving almost completely different versions of the 'same game'... and not even Ageia PhysX support can help PC on this one! Meanwhile, it's a sorry state of affairs once we get to look at the PS2 version of the game.
Cultured Vultures: In the spirit of preserving some kind of history of this industry, we’ve decided to list some of the best games that you just simply can’t get hold of digitally at the minute.
I just started playing Spec op. I've had it for years on steam and forgot about it. Such a good game.
Honorable mention to the excellent Driveclub, one of the best racing games of all-time and one of my favourite games ever.
Outrun Online Arcade, Sega Rally Online Arcade, After Burner Climax... all good stuff. I keep my 360 hooked up to play these as well as the TMNT games that were also delisted.
wow...I have all of them except the Nintendo ones either in physical or digital version.
Also..Deadpool the Game is missing on that list.
Tim and Luis talk what they’ve been watching and playing along with the news from the past week, including all the games from Sony’s “State of Play,” Evil West, Silent Hill: The Short Message, Hideo Kojima weirdness, Spec Ops: The Line delisted and more!
Any "online" ones to me
I don't see why I have to be forced to play online to complete a games achievement/trophy list
I don't mind if they were separate and they didn't count towards the games total or to get the Platinum but honestly it's just annoying
EA shouldn't have any online trophies on their games because they shut down servers. I'll never get get 1000GS on my Fifa 11 now!
I agree with online trophies. They are hard to get and i have bad internet brandwdth so it always disconnects.
I dont look to achivements to enjoy a game, and actually if they never existed i would not miss them. But in the name of people that think achivements make there games and gaming better i think online only achivements should end.Or make the achivements that you must unlock online also be able to unlock on SP either.Either way the system is broken for achivements and for trophies because there are people that are able to mod and unlock the two reward systems.
I agree with the first point, achievements for completing levels and campaigns are unnecessary.
I like the achievements that actually set the bar higher for the player, such as ones that requires a player to finish a level using certain weapons, without dying, or killing X amount of Y,etc.
