To me, it was KHII. It was the second game I ever bought with my own money (1st being Pokémon Emerald). I probably finished the game 5 times in less than a month, and I did another playthrough (on Proud mode) last summer. Was one of the best purchases I've ever made in my life so far.
This and Persona 3 were probably the only major PS2 games that released the same year as the PS3 did.

Panzer Dragoon Saga. I will never forget this full page ad Sega put out when the game was released. It featured a cut out paper mask of Edge (the game's hero)and mocked the fact that only 6000 copies were being produced. The mask was for people to wear and pretend they were in the game since it was so hard to get a copy.

Awesome game that very few have played, and the code is lost. Worth getting an emulator setup for. It's in my top 10 actually, within minutes you know it's something special.

It is the pride of my video game collection. I ended up dropping about $175 on a copy 10 years ago. I will never forgive myself for seeing it used at a Funcoland in 1999 for $49. At the time I thought that was too much for a used game.

..Meaning games like Okami rule. Came out on ps2. Bought it. hd version on ps3. Bought it. ps4 version? ..Would still buy it.

Okami is pure art, sensibility and fun, a true demonstration that the videogames are art.

It only makes sense, doesn't it? Developers- typically first party- have learned as much as they an about the console. They've come up with new tricks, and are familiar enough with the hardware that developing isn't so much trial and error. Whatever engine they've developed has been refined, whatever quirks the system had are mastered.

That's not exactly something that can happen at any time OTHER than a console's twilight.
