Battlefield 4 site source code reveals platforms, no mention of next-gen or Wii U

A string of text included within the source code of Battlefield 4's official website appears to have confirmed formats for DICE's upcoming first-person shooter - but there's no mention of next-gen platforms or Wii U.

I'm sorry, but why is the Wii U not considered part of the "next-gen" in the title of this story? Is the Wii U not in the generation after the current generation therefore making it "next-gen"?

I just noticed that they said "no mention of next-gen or wii u" , putting the wii u in a different category to the other consoles of it's own generation.

That's well said. A lot of hate around the WiiU at the moment and I don't know why. Ive had mine since day 1 and I think its a very good console. Ok its not had any games that show off what it can do yet but ZombieU and MarioU are two of the best games I played last year.

I agree that the wii u hasn't had many good games that actually showcase what the console can do yet, but I think once Nintendo starts coming out with their big franchises (Metroid, 3D mario, Zelda, Star Fox...?) we'll see the console doing some good graphics AND using the gamepad well (hopefully!).

While I don't dislike the Wii U, there are just a lack of good games for system that I can't already play on my PS3/360.

You can't think its just Nintendo getting hammered by negative press either. The Amount of PS3 doom and gloom articles that have appeared here over the years way surpass anything the Wii U. Even hours after the PS4 reveal we had hate articles.

I think Nintendo have a identity crisis with the Wii U if I'm honest. I've asked my family and work colleagues, who are nothing more than casual gamers what the Wii U is and they thought it was a new game...

Well it has nothing to with Wii-U hate. Regardless of what gen Wii-U is classified as, it shares most games with current gen consoles with minor differences.

Battlefield 4 on the Wii-U would be essentially the same as the ones on ps3 and 360. For ps4 and the next xbox battlefield 4 would be a "nex-gen" game so to speak. Just because the Wii-U is nex-gen in it's own lineage doesn't mean it's multi-platform games are.

The guys doing Dead Island said they could get their new content to run on the platform, but it wasn't worth the endeavor. I assume this was from a financial standpoint, so in that regard I think there is a difference.

Last time I checked, Battlefield 4 didn't win any awards! And it doesn't even try to mean "latest installment of the award winning series" for some of you who would object. It is simply copied and replaced from Battlefield 3.

The PS4 or 720 does not exist yet (I mean in PS4's case as in console ready and final specs wise, the next XBOX yet to be announced), As for Wii u Technically a next generation console it just seems to me third parties developers are just not interested in supporting the platform. Maybe during the E3 event, Battlefield 4 could possibly be shown on all next gen consoles.

Next gen has nothing to do with hardware; although, even in the hardware department, the Wii U meets that criteria. The CPU is packing a huge amount of expensive eDRAM and the GPU is a really great custom job.

The problem is that console gamers have no idea what they are talking about and are looking at shoddy rushed port jobs to judge the console by, which is downright stupid to say the least.

The source code is no confirmation that next gen versions of the game don't exist. EA already said they showed off Battlefield 4 to It's Share holders and Retail partners on PC, And PS4. And we Know that they've been working on the game for well over 2 and a half years on the PC and current gens with Next Gen versions probably being started on in January 2012 when MS had the Durango summit in London and Sony later that year.

As for the Wii-U its a next generation Nintendo console that's also an 8rh gen hardware, the problem is its completely a Generation behind the PS4 and the soon to be announced New Xbox.. its Specs make it closely in line with a PS3/360 with a little more Ram.

People can call it what the want but in terms of power, the Wii-U is hardly Next Gen.

The Wii-U is current gen, which is why it released in the current gen. The Wii U was created to help Nintendo close the gap on the current gen after the original Wii failed in the hardcore gaming area. The Wii U certainly did close that gap but, again, its current gen.

Its a given that Battlefield 4 will be released on both the PS3 and Xbox360.

Both current gen consoles have a userbase of over 70 Million.

No game publisher/ developer will release a major game like Battlefield 4 solely on a newly launched game console like the PS4 or XboxNext because there is no installed user base to buy the game.

Does EA want to sale 6 to 10 million on the PS3 and Xbox360 or do they want to sell maybe 1 million on a just launched next gen machine like the PS4 ?

Battlefield 4 will definitely be a cross gen game releasing on both the PS3 and later on PS4.

As for the Wii U. There is simply no core audience to support a game like Battlefield 4 on the Wii U.
