God of War: Ascension review | Thunderbolt

God of War: Ascension feels like the by-product of a generation that has gone on for far too long. After God of War III wrapped up the trilogy, Ascension attempts to bleed the well of Greek mythology dry even further. The third prequel in the series - and first not on a handheld device - Kratos’ latest violent adventure could be best described as unnecessary without causing too much fuss. With Zeus and his holy pals put on the backburner till later in the timeline, our angry antihero feels less motivated than he was in his rage-fuelled quest for revenge in God of War III - an aspect that’s unfortunately reflected in the game design in what is a fairly by-the-numbers affair.

Its level design hasn't taken steps backwards. But I only know this from actually playing it. If you're a fan of God of War, you have nothing to worry about. The game is fantastic.

Ehm did you play the previous games? I don't thik so or you would have realized that the secondary weapons are pretty useless(90% of the game you use the blades). Changing the elemental power of the blades in Ascensione make the gameplay more various, you can differentiate the combos without brake them.
Everyone is prasing the gameplay for being the best of the series so leave it from the flaws.

Playing ascension right now. I got to say its better than 3 from my perspective. The multiplayer it fun and addicting once you level up a bit. Single player is intriguing and keeps you wanting more. Definently loving the game. Well time to get back to it!
On a second note
I would probably give it a 9/10 from what I've played so far.

The story is not as good but everything else is pretty much better. The multiplayer alone i would give this game a 9/10. The boss battles are some of the best of all the GOW games. He doesnt have a lot of weapons i guess because its a prequel.

After competing it today I still found myself wanting more so that to me is the mark of a good game.
Some moments in it were epic the games scale is massive the only thing I felt was a little lacking was story. Very little dialogue and the pacing was a little off.
It's no GOW3 but to be fair that had all the other games build up to that final game!. No denying ascension is a stunning game and the combats more fluid than ever but I still can't help but feel something was missing..
I don't like to give scores to a game as its entirely based on 1 persons expectations and a persons enjoyment.
My opinion is if you love the series you have to buy it if your a fan but don't own any of the other games then rent it I got a solid 8 hours play through on hard got about 60% trophies so I've still got another play through at least. Then there's multiplayer to have a rip on. Bottom line it's well worth a play and Kratos' final outing on the PS3 may not be his finest but still holds its own...

A 6 out of 10 would mean that it's dreadfully average and have some possible glitches and flaws that kill the game. I'd give this game a 7/10 as the lowest possible only passed on what I've SEEN. I'll have to play through it to actually confirm if that 6/10 is justified.

See what I dont understand is how this game improves in almost every area besides the story which is still great but not the best in the series yet game sites that gave the last god of war game better scores but god of war ascension improves in every area and gets a lower score?

So basically this just proves that reviews nowadays are broken & not accurate. U mightest will just give a bad review for every game that comes out because it just doesnt make any sense how a better all around sequal or prequal gets worst scores then its last outing.

Enjoy the last thing on Xbox, while PS4 comes. PS3 gamers will have The Last of Us and Beyond to hold us off.

It's also funny that Journey and Unfinished Swan (both PS3 exclusive downloadable games) have better scores than Gears and any Xbox game.

I liked the game but I'd give it a 7 or 8 out of 10, I think it's the weakest out of the whole series and I'm a huge sony fan :( . 7/10 or 8/10 isn't bad but I thought the sliding down stuff was lame and the story didn't really keep me interested like the rest of them. I really like the addition of the "rage" meter though and the combos it unlocked.

I'm a huge GOW fan.The GOW story is if not the best,one of the best story's ever told in video games.There was really no reason to make this game.Other then a cash grab.This game is worth playing as a great rental.6.5/10.
