"Most people jump into the Call of Duty games for the multiplayer portion of the game, with a fair amount completely abandoning the single player offering. It's a shame because the early Call of Duty games were all about the single player experience, placing you in historic battles during World War II, fighting the evil Nazi's with the multiplayer being an added bonus to get some replay value out of the game you had just spent a lot of money on.
Then came along Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and flipped the formula on its head making the single player experience the added feature and the multiplayer component the centre piece and it's been pretty much that way right up to the latest release Call of Duty: Black Ops 2." - TGC
Many players on social media are now reporting unannounced matchmaking fixes have been put in place by Activision ranging from Call of Duty 3 to Modern Warfare 2 to Black Ops 2, on Xbox 360. Players are reporting that player counts are updating, lobbies forming, and matchmaking times have been reduced. Neither Activision nor Microsoft have commented on the matter when reached out to at this time. This is currently impacting both 360 and BC versions of the games. PS3 is not affected at this time.

Multiple users coming forward saying the games are finally working again after years of server issues. Note that not all issues such as player counts are totally fixed at this time however matchmaking is fully working again. With legacy Call of Duty games releasing on Game Pass within the next 2 years, it does make sense for these servers to eventually be corrected. Good to see the preservation of these legendary games. Hopefully PS3 receives the same treatment for these legacy titles!

Imagine that.
Conspiracy theory: MS have been planning on purchasing ABK for a long time. They let Sony outbid them for having console-exclusive CoD stuff/being first for certain dlc so the PlayStation player base would increase.
Years later, MS buy ABK, with plans to make CoD either exclusive/platform exclusive features etc with the release of a new console (Xbox Series X2?) So the established CoD player base migrates over to their platform, taking a huge percentage off Sony?

had this issue, adding my friends through Activision network resolved the issue though.

I'm happy to hear that MW4 will have Single player.
Not to be complete shit? Which every Call of Duty game is.
i went to the black ops 2 midnight release where i picked up the 1st COD iv'e ever owned & I can say without a doubt i will never buy another. COD is not a bad game in fact its pretty solid, i luv how quickly u get into matches,i like zombie mode &i like how alot of my friends have it but it seems that a team full of party members will almost always dominate a team with no party members, u can shoot thru objects that dont break & overall the maps r too small & games become repetitive quickly imo. I dunno maybe franchises like Socom, Warhawk/Starhawk,DUST,Battlefi eld, MAG etc. have set my standards to high
call of duty needs to be more authentic and less over the top in my opinion.
And the "killstreaks" need to fade away as rewards for kills i rather have them as a neutral support (as in no score given) in battle.
The classic killstreaks could always be around in a playlist.
The singleplayer needs new types of situations never seen before in a shooter and more realism to make it stand out.
sorry double post
