Why Pixar staffers decided to start their own gaming company on the side

It may seem strange that a group of individuals working at Hollywood’s most respected animated movie studio would want to spend their spare time making games, but Steel Wool co-founder Andrew Dayton says that it’s the norm for Pixar employees to have a side project.

Cause they're creative m---- f'ers!

FamilyGuy4048d ago

Exactly, this doesn't seem odd in the slightest.

Who cares why? If they put as much care and love into their games as they do their movies that aren't Cars 2, I'm all for it.

Don't judge because of my avatar, i'll try not to be biased, but truthfully:

Pixar is to Film like Bungie is to Games.

Look at their track record of AAA titles. It's all widely accepted quality. And if you literally look at their studio and the way they operate, it mirrors Pixar's workplace very closely.

Bungie has one successful IP, Pixar has numerous.......and ONI wasn't a good game.

I don't think it's fair to compare when Bungie only claim to fame is Halo....and that has ye to be replicated

OmniSlashPT4048d ago (Edited 4048d ago )

Or Naughty Dog :P But yeah, Pixar knows the stuff, and I think they would succeed if they tried to go and make a game.

Pandamobile4048d ago

Bungie? No.

The closest analog to Pixar in the games industry would probably be Valve. Valve is the place where all the top talent in the industry strives to be.

PSNintyGamer4048d ago

This will be interesting, especially since many people consider Nintendo the Pixar of video games

RetrospectRealm4048d ago

I have never once heard anybody say that.

thereapersson4048d ago

When I think of the "Pixar of videogames", I think of Insomniac's Ratchet and Clank.

AronDeppert4048d ago

This could be pretty interesting!

we need pixar in kingdom hearts!

Worthplaying PS Vita Review - 'Flyhunter Origins'

Worthplaying: It shouldn't be surprising that there seems to be a movement on the Vita to produce games that are better suited for younger players. While the change in approach isn't seismic, the recent bundling of The LEGO Movie game with the PlayStation TV marks a beginning, as do the presence of games like PlayStation Vita Pets. Flyhunter Origins, a platforming game that premiered on mobile devices, takes that same approach by tailoring the game to a younger set of players. It would've been a decent game, if it weren't for numerous technical issues.

Flyhunter Origins – SteamFirst Review

SteamFirst: Oh boy, this is one of those “how do I explain this concept?”-kind of games, but for the love of TL;DR’s I will try: 2.5D platforming, with a great story and very enjoyable gameplay and tons of bugs: the living kind, not the Assassin’s Creed Unity kind. (Hey, that wasn’t too bad!) On the surface, Flyhunter Origins is a well-crafted platformer…well, that’s all it is on the inside, too, but that’s not bad (even if the English-guy inside of me is let down): Flyhunter Origins doesn’t try to convey itself as the answer to everything, but instead as a family-friendly platforming game complete with a great cast of characters and an intriguing story.
