New Final Fantasy X & X-2 HD scan

A new scan of Final Fantasy X HD shows a couple of HD/PS2 comparison images.

I agree. I was worried that this might turn out to be vaporware because SE was silent for more than a year. I am now glad that the game exists and we will be getting it before the end of the year. It is looks like they are remodelling the characters to some extent as well. Tidus's face looks a little different from before. Although I cant make any difference between the scenes of Tidus looking at Zanarkand. We need better quality scans!

I was pretty surprised at the X-2 being included with it. I know it wasn't the most popular installment in the series but I always like getting more for the same price. It wasn't as bad as some people make it out to be. You just kind of have to take it for what it is, and have fun with it instead of being overly critical.

Hahahaha yeah no doubt this will be on the Xbox 360, square knows that almost all of the ps2 fanbase went to the xbox360 when it came out so there is absolutely a great market for this game on the xbox, they would be effing stupid not to release it on xbox....next up, every metal gear after rising will be on the xbox too :)

They are polishing the character models. It looks great!! I thought they were just adding more resolution into the game, but they are actually enhancing other areas in the graphics department too. Looks like SE wants my money, and I will gladly give it to them this time (not like with FFXIII lol).

models are the same, it only looks cleaner because of the bump in resolution. It was already confirmed that they weren't going to remodel the characters nor improved the lighting like initially stated because of time constraint.

Bumps in texture doesn't change bone structure and hair strings. In fact if you look at the zanarkand pictures it has extra rock shapes under and over tidus. Its a lot more detailed.

Well, if the Kingdom Heart 1.5 HD is anything to go by... Square Enix certainly does HD collections right... That game is the prettiest HD remaster I've seen to date.

I'd expect the same treatment given to FFX, and that's exciting!

Problem with FF7/8 is that the backgrounds were actually static 2D images, and the characters were rendered in 3D on that plane. When upgrading they would have to redo the 2D images to fit into the HD resolutions. This would mean either remaking them, or clipping them in such a way to fit the widescreen format. They could redo the 3D characters easily enough, but given how old those games were they'd also have to redo all the cut scenes which would take a considerable amount of time.

With 3D the environment is there(for the most part), and it just requires adjustment to the camera's focal aspects in order to include more on the screen.

I can't remember exactly, but I think FF9 actually was the first to have fully 3D environments. I may be wrong though.

For FFX they likely already had the higher res textures to work with since textures are made in high res then downsampled to meet spec demands. Increasing poly count isn't that hard on a well done model, and any commercial 3D software will do it for you with acceptable results. If the lower poly count model is good to begin with, the differences would be minimal anyways, since smoothing and other techniques make up for hard angles. Texture resolution is a huge factor in how a 3D model looks.

I think if they ever did decide to remake them, they would just be better off starting all the graphics from scratch, because basically that's what they would be doing anyways.

FFX-2 is completely pointless and unnecessary as a sequel, it was simply tacky and out of place. The battle system doesn't even make sense within the rules set by the world of the first game....

@wishingW3L: FFX-2 was originally supposed to be the prequel that we all wanted. Toriyama thought that that would be too traditional so he made it the Charlie's Angels we know and some love. So the ATB is in place because the CTB wouldn't work with only 3 characters and, either way, there would have been 3 characters whether it was Y.R.P. or B.A.J.

FFX-2 is also completely non-linear and is essentially an entire game worth of side-quests. In some ways that's good, in some ways that's bad, but at least it has its own identity. FFXIII is a corridor pseudo-action RPG, FFXIII-2 is a mish mash of older ideas from better games and suffers from the DLC trend of this current gen. With FFXIII and XIII-2 being TERRIBLE, how anyone can even conceive that Lightning Returns will somehow magically be better under the same director is beyond all capability to understand.

FFX-2 did do something far worse than FFXIII though. IT DESTROYED BLITZBALL!!!!

I've been playing Final Fantasy since the first game back on Nintendo and 8 definitely ranks in my tops for the series. (Although to be fair, I hated it at first. It took a LONG time for me to actually go through it and learn to like it for what it was.)

I hated Blitzball. I could never make a shot. So I just far up... Wanted Wakka's ultimate weapon, but don't wanna keep losing over and over again.

Once you got the sphere shot and, more importantly, the jecht shot (which knocks out two defenders), it was much easier to score.

It was rumored to have FFX and X-2 international versions. Going by the scans the X-2 rumors were true, so I'm hoping we get the International versions as we'll. If you look at the Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD remix, they're adding the final mix version which is like the FF international versions.

Edit: FFX and X-2 international versions have english options but never released outside of PAL.

I actually enjoyed 10-2. It was...different, but not bad. I thought the whole garment grid and dressphere battle system was pretty creative at the time.

I actually liked it more then Final Fantasy 12. 12 wasn't a bad game by any means, but I just couldn't get into the changes they made with the FF formula. I still need to finish that game. Wonder if they're willing to do an HD port of it so I can give it a second shot, but with HD and trophies this time.

They likely do this. However this is the same Square Enix who didn't have enough sense to put Birth by Sleep on PSN when it released in the last active year of PSP before Vita. They put 3rd Birthday and Dissidia 012 up quickly so it's not like it's abstract idea. Anyways it may get a digital version as only the bundle as well.

This is the only Final Fantasy I will get to enjoy this console generation I would enjoy FFVS13 whenever it comes out. I cant wait for FFX and help Yuna out on her journey again. I just hope in the future Namco and Monolith release an HD remake of Xenosaga 1,2 & 3
