Five Things Zelda Wii U Should Borrow From Majora’s Mask

GenGAME writes: As a direct sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, to this day the most popular Zelda game ever made, Majora’s Mask had a lot riding on its shoulders. But as a side story put together in a single year, the emphasis wasn’t so much on creating a new Grand and Epic Adventure, but a more personal quest.

What was Majora’s Mask known for? Not for its take on Hyrule or for its additions to the core of Zelda lore, but for its bold strokes in otherwise unexplored areas.

MACABRE ! DOOMSDAY ! DEATH ! Seriously, I want a mature Zelda game. Once. Please.

Erimgard4048d ago

It's called Darksiders. Enjoy.

ShugaCane4048d ago

It's not called The Legend of Zelda, though.

Tei7774047d ago

On paper, maybe....Darksiders feels more like a dungeon crawler then a sprawling Zelda-esque adventure, despite how hard it tries. Also the artsyle is more a comic book interpretation of gothic as opposed to real Macabre

To me closest a game came to feeling like zelda was Okami, It has that subtle, very minimalist, and quite japanese approach to world building, as opposed to the very blunt exposition you find in many western games, Darksiders included.

OhMyGandhi4048d ago

I'd like to see a more mature Zelda game, with an art style similar to 2008's Prince of Persia.

MariaHelFutura4047d ago

I think they should stop "borrowing" from other Zelda's and go for something fresh and original, itstead of sticking to the formula so strickly. Coming into the HD era, I think that would be the best thing for the series.

stragomccloud4047d ago

Zelda is a serious and mature title. Only kids think that mature content has to actually have an M rating for blood and sex.

I want 5-10 towns like MM. All in the game, all detailed with people that have lives and feel real. I love side quests but make them involve the main story more.

I would say it should borrow the atmosphere as well as those listed.
One thing I loved about MM was its atmosphere. How it gave that creepy vibe, a celebratory time, and the all hope is lost! That was great experiencing all pf that playing the game.

Really though I hope the Zelda U can create a unique identity for itself without relying too much on the things of past games.
Like KarmicDemon said, a bit more mature in nature and theme. Not just saving a reincarnated princess from a pigman!

Tei7774047d ago

Majors Mask is just Iconic, nothing else comes close to mimicing its atmosphere.

I'd actually love to see the next game utilise the dame style as Ocarina of time and Majora Mask. Some would say that, Twilight princess did that but to me they are worlds apart. The N64 games have an almost surrealist approach, keep the body proportional and features archaic and abstract, just render them in more detail.

I've been saying #3 Memorable Character Story Arcs and #4: Intricate Day & Night Schedules
On N4G For sometime now.
-I like #1 A New Kind of Villain too.

SS touched on #3 and #1- Ghirahim an his master were fun concepts.
The author talked about everyday villains BUT I think most Anime' and Sci-Fi get how normal people become villains OR end-up on the Wrong Side.

Anyway,
If they flesh this out more WiiU Zelda will be Epic.

I have always thought it weird that characters remained in the same place without deviation.
I think it would be better to have character go through a weekly routine. And a realistic daily schedule.

Pozzle4047d ago

Definitely agree with the commenters above who said the atmosphere.

But also...the character development and interaction. I loved walking through Termina and feeling like I was in a real place with real people. They had lives, they had relationships, they did different things each day. And depending on what day/time you interacted with them, you could get completely different conversations and reactions. It was really well done, and I'd love to see something like that in Zelda Wii-U, but on a much grander scale.

Honestly I really changed my mind on Fi with the remaster because they didn't make her interrupt your gameplay every 5 seconds, that drastically changed my views on her

Inverno72d ago

Technically she's in ToTK but obviously can't take any other form than the sword she was made into. Also the companion feature has been done plenty of times in Zelda, I don't think it'll add anything new. If anything should be brought back it should be the Minish.

Directionless Modern Zelda Should Return to its 3D Roots

Matt from We Game Daily writes "The Legend of Zelda series has gone in a different direction. One which, try as I have, I just can’t get on board with. Here is why I think Zelda should return to its 3D roots."

Amen! A good, tight, Zelda game with a focus on dungeons and puzzles. Let people have the new style Zelda if you gotta, but let us have the OoT style games too. That's not without precedent either, the handheld 2D Zelda's in the style of A Link to the Past etc have coexisted alongside the 3D Zelda's before

FinalFantasyFanatic103d ago

As much as I like BoTW, TotK, I need my traditional Zelda games as well, I could not endlessly play the open world Zelda games, plus it's harder to keep those fresher than the traditional games.

Eidolon102d ago (Edited 102d ago )

BotW was just as fresh to the franchise as OoT was. TokT was great but the next LoZ would have to move from that formula to be fresh again. There's only so much they can do with the hardware. I think they focused too much on making the world big instead impactful. I felt the world was sort of empty and repetitive in TotK, sure there was a lot to do but no more difference a Ubisoft game..

anast102d ago

I wouldn't worry too much. Nintendo knows what they are doing.

Ristul102d ago

Wind Waker had a perfect balance of open world and a cool, well hand-crafted design. Maybe try to keep the open world but put in effort to make more memorable story driven quests and locations.

Zelda Fan Brings Godzilla to Life in Tears of the Kingdom

A fan of The Legend of Zelda has recreated the iconic Japanese monster Godzilla in Tears of the Kingdom using the game's Zonai devices.

I like it would also be cool if some created Dragon Caesar in the game I would love to watch the two going at it.
