Review: Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory | Digitally Downloaded

Digitally Downloaded writes: "While Activision isn’t about to dump Call of Duty to develop a knock-off of this series as its new yearly release, Compile Heart and American publisher, Nippon Ichi Software America, seem to be happy with the fan base the series has developed, and as a result we now have a third game in the series; Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory. Party time! Or, more accurately given the content of this game, Pillow Fight time!"

Lol at that picture... I tried the Japanese demo for the game a while back, it seemed okay... I love JRPG games, but it had some real issues with frame rate.

Compile Heart are notoriously-bad at optimising its games for the PlayStation 3 hardware, despite producing games that don't exactly push it.

Agarest War's framerate literally crashes at times. When there's only 2D sprites on the screen.

But still, the games themselves more than make up for the lack of optimisation.

Hmmm, well I've never played any of the games in the series, despite wanting to give them a shot... I can tell it's one of those games you either love or hate, and the framerate issues don't really break the game for me. I'll most likely try picking up an earlier release at some point to see if it's any good.

@MattS (below) - Were any Vita ones announced for localization outside Japan?

MattS4055d ago

@Snookies - Not as yet, but I would be very surprised it it isn't - Nippon Ichi works a great deal on this franchise.

PoSTedUP4055d ago

oh man i would love this on the vita.

Snookies124055d ago

Yeah, I would be much more inclined to buy this if it had a Vita version.

MattS4055d ago

Compile Heart has announced three Hyperdimension games for the Vita. Not a port of this one sadly, but same universe, characters etc. :-)

PoSTedUP4055d ago

: D!! yes and thats awesome, i gotta look up the release dates for those. and yeah for some reason i love JRPG's on the PSP and Vita more than on PS3. i guess im just more of a handheld gamer, i cant wait to get the 3DS tho too it looks like it has a great selection of games.

Snookies124055d ago

Yeah man, the Vita is fantastic, but the 3DS is a great handheld as well. You won't be disappointed with it. It certainly has quite a good selection of games. :]

Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory – Enter the Dominatrix

Gary Green said: The concept for a good sequel is not a complicated thing. You take your original idea and expand on the lore, then you fix anything that was broken the first time around. You might want to introduce some new features too; This is fine so long as you don’t go overboard, and you don’t change the overall flow of the game. Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory ticks all of these boxes, so surely then it should be the perfect package? Well, almost. It really is rather good.

A concise history of Hyperdimension Neptunia

Michibiku's Jenni Lada writes, "Hyperdimension Neptunia is huge. It’s a massive series that covers tons of games, all of which are sort of connected? Though also not really, because quite a few are spin-offs and non-canon. It’s a lot to take in, to be sure. With Megadimension Neptunia VII on the horizon, we here at Michibiku felt like we should offer an overview of the main series’ installments."
