The topic of women in gaming, both as players and developers, has been getting a lot of attention recently. Unfortunately, the majority of that attention has been negative and has focused more on the blatant harassment and sexism in the gaming industry and its culture.
But believe it or not, it is not all doom and gloom for the female characters in video games themselves. In fact, there have been quite a few game titles that have featured strong independent women as their main protagonists. So let’s celebrate women in gaming by focusing on these popular characters who have provided us with positive role models and given us hours of gaming enjoyment.
Given the medium's wild diversity, this primer of the essential video games everyone should try is a good place to start.
I can't fk with this list. They missed on alot of games probably before the writers times. Also I know people loved some portal but I was never a fan.
Tomb Raider 1
Driver 1
Abe’s Odyssey
FF6
King of Fighters 94
Mortal Kombat OG
LINK 2 the past
Street Fighter 2
Resident Evil 1
Infinite but not the first two games? Witcher 3 but not the first two games?? GTA V but not literally any of the games before it??? Portal 2 but not the first? Also if you're going to play Shadow of The Colossus play the remaster and not the remake. Can't say I disagree with the list but my man it's all over the place.
Awesome list! Hot take on Fear (and it's hard af expansion Persaus Mandate!) Bioshock Infinite is stellar, so is the Witcher 3 and you nailed it by having Ocarina of Time. So many fantastic games! Gotta play 'em all! Next one on my list is Prey after I beat Dead Space 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction.
The 2024 Game Anniversaries include some major titles including Half-Life 2, Uncharted 2, and Minecraft.
The Nerd Stash: “A list of the rarest games for the PS2, all with hefty price tags worth a fortune 25 years after the console first hit shelves.”
I found Haunted Grounds still sealed at a Salvation Army store, but it's the PAL version lol.
I have some of these games but I have played them. Still worth a good amount though and they’re in great condition.
I'm really a big fan of Jade, and Laura Croft (where is she at?).
Alyssa is also a great choice, being that she's vulnerable yet still sticks with it.
Sadly, this list only makes me realize how we need to work on how women are portrayed in games. We need more strong characters!
No Elena Fisher.....for shame
I'm pretty sure after this year is over we can add Elizabeth from Bioshock Infinte, Jodie Holmes from Beyond:Two Souls, and Elly from The Last Of Us.
Ms. Pacman is Pacman in drag.
I knew theyd miss Hana from Fear Effect. How come this series gets no love?
